Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: A Wish Too Many

Kaito Yamada never considered himself a hero.

He wasn't the kind of person who stood out. At seventeen, he drifted through high school like a shadow, quiet and forgettable. His grades were above average, his social life nearly nonexistent, and his closest companions were the fictional characters that filled the pages of his manga and the glowing screen of his laptop. He had read hundreds of isekai stories—boys dying tragically and waking up in worlds of magic and swords, or finding themselves blessed by gods to become heroes.

But that was fantasy.

His reality was just another long evening of cram school, walking home through the twilight streets of Tokyo. Headphones in. Backpack slung over one shoulder. Lost in his imagination. He wasn't expecting anything different—until he saw the truck.

It came from the side street, tires screeching, engine roaring. Time slowed. A little girl—no more than five—was frozen in the middle of the crosswalk, eyes wide as the headlights closed in.

Kaito didn't think.

He ran.

There was a scream—not his own. A flash of pain. Then nothing.

---

Darkness.

Not the quiet kind that comes with sleep, but the deep, absolute kind. Cold. Empty. Timeless.

Kaito was floating. No body, no breath, just a vague awareness of himself. It should have been terrifying, but oddly, he felt at peace.

Then, something stirred the void.

A voice. Calm, yet immense—echoing from everywhere and nowhere.

"Kaito Yamada."

His consciousness trembled. "W-What… is this?"

"Your life has ended, but your soul is not lost. Your final act—saving a child at the cost of your own life—was recognized. As a result, you are eligible for rebirth. Not just any rebirth... You will be given a new life with a special privilege."

"...Special privilege?"

"Unlimited wishes."

Kaito's thoughts screeched to a halt.

"Wait, what? Like… I can wish for anything? Isn't that a bit much?"

"You may wish for anything within the bounds of your new world. This is a rare exception. A world of supernatural beings, powers beyond human comprehension, and eternal conflict awaits you. Your knowledge and decisions will shape the future of that world."

Kaito tried to make sense of it.

"So I'm being sent to a fantasy world... with unlimited power. Sounds like a cheat code."

"It is exactly that. But such power carries consequences. Your influence may alter the balance of entire factions—devils, angels, fallen. You must choose your path."

"...What world am I going to?"

"A world you know. Kuoh Academy. Devils. Sacred Gears. Dragons."

Kaito's nonexistent heart skipped a beat.

High School DxD.

He knew that universe inside and out—he had watched all the seasons, read the light novels, even memorized stats from the fandom wiki. It was a world of raw power and lewd comedy, of epic battles and deep lore.

"You're… sending me there?"

"Yes. Prepare yourself."

Before he could respond, the void shattered into light.

---

He awoke to sunlight streaming through gauzy curtains.

Warmth. Breath. A heartbeat.

Kaito gasped, sitting up in bed—an actual bed, soft and unfamiliar. His hands trembled as he raised them in front of his face.

Skin. Blood. Fingers.

He was alive.

He looked around. The room was pristine, white walls, polished floor, a desk with books and papers. A school infirmary, he realized. It felt... familiar.

Then he saw the school emblem on the wall.

Kuoh Academy.

He whispered the name like a curse and a prayer. "No way…"

This wasn't a dream. He was in High School DxD.

Panic and excitement warred inside him. He rushed to a nearby mirror and froze.

The face that stared back was his—but refined. Taller, more athletic, like his features had been sculpted to match anime standards. His black hair was still messy, but now in a fashionable kind of way. His eyes glowed slightly—faint hints of gold in the irises.

As he tried to process everything, a chime sounded—and a glowing blue screen blinked into existence in front of him.

Kaito stared at the screen like it was made of gold.

"This is real," he muttered. "This is actually happening."

He tapped the screen. It unfolded into a sleek menu with categories.

[Skills]

[Powers]

[Items]

[Knowledge]

[Relationships]

Each one had hundreds of sub-options. He could see Sacred Gears listed by name—Boosted Gear, Divine Dividing, Annihilation Maker—along with forbidden magic, God-tier abilities, and even "Custom Gear" as a choice.

There were plot events he could skip, reverse, or overwrite. Affection sliders for canon characters. World alignment modifiers. Faction loyalty settings.

Kaito's hands were sweating.

"I could… change everything."

He scrolled down to a blank wish input box and began typing.

---

> Wish 1: I wish for complete control over my own energy signature, presence, and aura—to remain undetectable unless I choose otherwise.

> Wish 2: I wish for a personalized Sacred Gear capable of evolving infinitely based on emotional growth and battle experience.

> Wish 3: I wish to learn every known martial art and magical discipline in this world instantly.

---

The screen shimmered. His body glowed briefly, and he felt the power surge through him like a slow-burning fire. His mind expanded with knowledge—magic circles, sword katas, demonic energy flows. It was intoxicating.

Yet, he didn't feel overwhelmed.

It felt right.

Then he paused. "I could just wish for total invincibility. Or the power of Great Red or Ophis…"

He stared at the menu for a long moment.

But then he smiled faintly.

"No. That's too easy. Power without struggle is just boredom."

He closed the wish screen and stood. His uniform was neatly folded on a nearby chair—Kuoh Academy's black blazer, white shirt, red armband.

He dressed slowly, then stepped outside.

The hallway was quiet. Class hadn't started yet.

Kaito walked past a window and looked out onto the school courtyard. Students milled around. Familiar faces. Background characters from the anime. And somewhere out there—Rias Gremory, Akeno Himejima, Issei Hyoudou.

The story hadn't begun yet. Raynare hadn't made her move. Asia Argento hadn't arrived. The supernatural world was simmering beneath the surface—but peace still reigned, for now.

"I have time."

He returned to the menu and opened the "Story Events" tab.

There it was: Event Timeline

[ ] Issei Receives Boosted Gear

[ ] Issei Killed by Raynare

[ ] Rias Resurrects Issei

[ ] Asia Introduced

[ ] Kokabiel Attacks

[ ] Vali Appears

[ ] Peace Talks with Angels

All unchecked.

Kaito tapped on "Pause Timeline."

[Main Story Events Paused]

He exhaled.

"Good. I need to prepare."

With a flick of his fingers, he made his presence undetectable. He walked through the halls of Kuoh like a ghost, invisible to the supernatural. He watched from afar—Rias talking with Akeno near the Occult Research Club. Kiba Yuuto sparring with students. Even Sona Shitori, the student council president, casually reading near the fountain.

Kaito felt the world in motion around him.

So much potential. So many decisions to make.

And with unlimited wishes, anything was possible.

But he had a feeling things wouldn't be as easy as they looked.

Because in a world of gods, dragons, and devils—too much power is just another way to become a target.

And Kaito Yamada had just stepped into the center of it all
