Chapter 27 - Zhāng 26

"Wonderful, wonderful," Commander Ye nodded repeatedly after hearing it.

"This is a serious matter. I need to discuss it with the Commander and also call a meeting with all the top leaders to talk about it."

"Go ahead, go ahead. I'll find people myself, no need to worry about me. Oh right, your warehouse is full again. Tomorrow would be a good time to return those things to them," Paige said, and then walked out on her own.

She was going to find Winn and the others.

Commander Ye was even more delighted.

Today, after equipping all the new soldiers, the once full warehouse was now half empty.

After supplying weapons and ammunition to the frontlines, there was only a little left. But now, it had been filled up again.

Guns give people courage. And these people weren't cowards to begin with. It looked like the plan they just discussed had a high chance of success.

He quickly put on his own hat and walked toward the Commander's office.

"You, go and inform all the Commanders and Division Leaders to have a meeting at the Commander's place," Commander Ye instructed his guard, Officer Fang.

After saying that, he rushed to the Commander's place. He wanted to share the good news first.

"Old Ye, what's the point of calling us to a meeting in the middle of the night? Did you find out the PN are planning something big?" Commander Feng's voice came before he arrived.

"Yes, we did find out their trick.

They're going to gather their troops tomorrow and launch an airstrike on us in the evening.

After that, they'll launch a full-scale attack on our cities.

Their heavy weapons are already on the way and should arrive on the battlefield tomorrow," Commander Ye said calmly once everyone had arrived.

Everyone in the room fell silent.

It seemed like tomorrow would be a battle of life and death.

"Whatever, if they come, we fight. Whoever backs down is a coward.

Even if I die, I'll take a few PN soldiers with me," Commander Feng said.

"I still say this: if we don't destroy the PN, we won't survive. If the country falls, how can we protect our families?" General Yi said calmly.

"Everyone, don't lose hope. Let me finish what I was going to say!" Commander Ye waited until everyone had voiced their opinions before speaking slowly.

"Do you all remember that mysterious woman from a few days ago?" Commander Ye asked.

Without waiting for anyone to answer, he continued, "She has already filled our warehouse again."

"Hahaha! Great, that means I can take more PN with me," Commander Feng laughed.

"Why do you keep talking about taking people with you when you die? I'm not going with you. I want to go home alive and see my wife and kids.

My wife can't do without me," Commander Ye rolled his eyes at him.

Then he explained Paige's idea to everyone.

"Isn't that too risky? What if something goes wrong? The consequences would be unimaginable," someone said with concern.

"She said that after the PN enter the city, she can quietly take away their heavy weapons.

I think this method is the only solution that can change our current situation.

If we can't hold the line, things will only get worse anyway.

So why not take the chance while we still have guns and fight them head-on?" Commander Ye said.

"We're putting all our hopes on someone we barely know. What if she can't... have you thought about that?" someone questioned.

"I've thought about it. They have guns, we have guns. They have artillery, we do too.

And none of us are afraid to die.

Just like Feng said, we'll take down as many PN as we can before we go," Commander Ye said.

"The most important thing is, we'll be taking them by surprise. The PN would never expect us to try something like this, so there's a good chance it'll work."

After a moment of silence, everyone agreed on the decision.

Next, they had to quickly arrange for the people in the city to be moved, trying to reduce any casualties.

The military forces also needed to be redeployed.

After some discussion, everyone went off to handle their assigned tasks.

They had been under pressure for so long, whether or not they could finally release some of that frustration depended on whether they succeeded tomorrow.

All the citizens were woken up in their sleep, told to quickly pack up their valuables, and then follow the army to designated shelters.

If people had their own safe places to go, that was fine too, as long as they stayed hidden and didn't show up tomorrow.

Paige didn't care about these small matters. She directly searched for Winn and the others and went straight to them.

They weren't at the front lines, because there was no battle happening there for the moment.

Officer Fang had arranged for someone to take them to the shooting range for practice.

After all, all the weapons and ammo were provided by that "auntie," there was no reason not to let her people use them.

Besides, they were just three rookie soldiers, how much ammo could they possibly use? They might not last long anyway.

Ely really couldn't hold out long. His hands got too tired to hold the gun.

He could only use the lightest handgun. The other guns were too heavy, and the recoil was too strong for him to handle.

Winn and Uziel were doing better. After practicing all morning, they had basically learned how to shoot.

Handguns were convenient, but shooting the Type 38 rifle was much more satisfying.

As for accuracy, at least they weren't missing the target anymore.

When Paige arrived, the three of them had rested enough and were practicing again.

"So, how's it going? Have you learned it?" Paige asked.

"Sis, you're back! Look, I can hit the target now. Let me show you," Ely said excitedly as he ran up and pulled her over to watch him shoot.

"Bang, bang, bang, bang." Aim, shoot. Aim, shoot…

He fired four shots in a row, using up all the bullets in the gun.

"Not bad, not bad," Paige clapped. "Your stance looks good, you scored an eleven-ring."

"Really? Eleven rings?" Ely asked, confused.

"Yeah, hahaha, isn't missing the target considered eleven-ring?" Uziel laughed and explained.

"What? No way, I swear I hit the target just now!" Ely said, feeling down.

"Don't be discouraged. Maybe today's target just didn't suit you.

Rest well tonight. Tomorrow, I'll take you to do some live training. Shooting at real enemies will help you improve your aim," Paige comforted him.

"Really? Sis, we can fight tomorrow?" Ely asked excitedly.

"That's right. So tonight, make sure to get enough rest. Tomorrow, I'll bring you back to pick some suitable weapons.

After a whole day of testing, did you find any weapon that feels right for you?" Paige asked.

"This handgun's pretty good. It suits me," Ely replied.

"The Type 38 is great. The sniper rifle too, it's just too heavy to carry while running," Uziel said.

He wanted to use the sniper rifle, but his aim wasn't steady yet, and he couldn't handle it well.

"No problem, take your time. A sharpshooter isn't made in a day, it takes consistent practice.

Once this period passes, I'll have them train with you.

Just knowing how to shoot isn't enough, your physical fitness has to keep up too," Paige said as they walked.

Commander Ye arranged a suite for the four of them. It had three small rooms inside, just the right size for them to live in.
