Chapter 1 - Boring life

Chapter One

Subtitle: Boring Life

Freda

The wooden stairs creaked as I tried my best to step on them in the most convenient way possible. "Urgh! I hate the sound of these old stairs," I complained. Aunt Hilda looked up from her almost empty plate of mashed potatoes and gave me a subtle yet questioning look.

"Good morning, Aunty," I greeted her with a smile as I reached the end of the stairs and quickly walked towards the dining area in our home. She eyed me from head to toe with a stern look.

"What took you so long? Were you giving birth to a baby in your room? Your food is almost cold," she snapped. I gave her an apologetic look as I pulled out a chair and sat down, beginning to serve myself some breakfast. I don't like breakfast that much, but I always try to eat a little to avoid my aunt's unending nagging.

I took a piece of the already prepared sandwich and poured myself some warm chocolate drink from the big mug. "What about Trisha? Has she gone out already?" I asked.

"Of course, Trisha is gone," my aunt snapped. "She's the only child who ever listens to me in this house. She's never late for school and she's always organized, unlike the rest of you!" My aunt pushed back her empty plate and made to stand up.

Almost immediately, the familiar thumping and creaking sound of the stairs came again, and I looked over to see my cousin Jeremy, Trisha's twin, walk down in nothing but sweatpants. His athletic body was bare on top, his hair looked uneven and scattered, and his face looked dull, as if he'd just woken up from sleep. My aunt's sigh was almost comical, as if she'd cry the next moment. She touched her forehead in frustration and threw him a nasty, annoyed glance.

"Good morning, everyone," Jeremy greeted as he made his way into the dining area and then towards the water dispenser to pour himself a glass of cold water. He gulped it down quickly and put the glass back on the rack. "You idiot! How many times have I told you to stop walking around this house naked? And look at the time, you moron, you'll be late for school." Aunt Hilda lashed out with a scowl on her face. Jeremy rolled his eyes and headed out of the dining area towards the stairs. "I'm not naked. And shouldn't you be more worried about your baby who's still sleeping upstairs? She'll miss her test." Jeremy retorted nonchalantly as he headed back up the creaking stairs.

My aunt's face looked so funny, as if she would cry any moment. "Silvia!" she yelled with a loud screech as she quickly stood up from her chair and headed out of the dining area. "These kids are going to be the end of me!" She almost cried. I leaned back in my chair and sipped my hot chocolate with a slight chuckle. What a mess! That's what a home filled with teenagers looks like.

My aunt is a divorced mom who separated from her husband ten years ago, so far she'd stuck with raising all four of us, and it has not been easy raising four teenagers alone. There's me, the insufferable and boring orphan who's she's stuck with for a good chunk of her life. Since my parents died, she's been the only parent I have. Then there's Jeremy and Trisha, the two polar opposite twins. They're about two months older than me. Jeremy is the cool and good-looking teenager who looks older than his age; he's good with the ladies and has a number of friends as well. His life revolves around sports, particularly swimming and hitting the gym.

Then there's Trisha, the Barbie of the house. She's a drop-dead gorgeous girl with sweet and delicate features; she has soft blue eyes and nice blonde hair, but then her personality is far from soft. She's obsessed with getting good grades and being a perfectionist; everyone at school envies her, and that has put her on the list of the top five hottest girls in school.

Then there's the last-born of the house, Silvia. She's similar to me in a way; we are both boring and reserved, and we look nothing like the two hot twins who took after their hot and beautiful mother. I'm just a basic brunette who has a bad taste in everything. I always dress for comfort and to mask my body from the public eye, not to brag, but beneath my baggy clothes, I have quite a lot to show. I also have a decent face, and if I decide to dress better, I'd fetch myself a handful of crushes.

Silvia is a redhead; she's a total snob and does nothing but sleep like a goat. As I bit into my sandwich, my phone beeped, and I took a glance. I had just gotten a text from my best friend Cindy, saying she's outside to pick me up. I smiled and gulped down everything in my glass at once. "I'm off to school!" I said out loud for my aunt to hear before picking up my backpack and phone. I flung my backpack over my shoulder and then picked up the rest of my sandwich. I dashed out of the dining room and then into the living room before heading for the door.

I could hear Aunt Hilda arguing with Silvia from the upper floor, but I was in a hurry to even make out what they were saying. As soon as I got out of the house into the very well-looking garden that surrounded our home, a nice floral scent hit my nose hard. I breathed in as I ran down the aisle of flowers towards the car parked just outside. Cindy was leaning against the car with her phone in her hands, and the moment our eyes met, she gave me a soft smile. "Get in, or we'll be late." She said.

"Good morning to you too, bestie." I rolled my eyes as I opened the car door and got in. I looked forward and noticed a black motorcycle parked just in front of the house ahead of our house. Is it even a house? It's a freaking mansion. Our own humble home looks like a freaky house standing beside this massive and breathtaking mansion. The house had belonged to an old lady who lived alone for years, but she died three years ago, and none of her two rich children, who hardly ever came around, wanted to occupy it. It was sold a few weeks ago, renovated, and now it looks breathtaking. "I was wondering when your new neighbors would move in. It seems they've finally decided to grace our small town with their presence." "Yeah, good for them," I muttered as I put on my seatbelt. "I hope they have some cute boys I could play around with." Cindy laughed. I rolled my eyes. "You wish! My aunt said it's just a couple, along with their two girls, who are Silvia's age-mates." I muttered as we took off. Cindy pouted. "Nothing fun goes on in this town anymore." She said. I just relaxed and scrolled through my phone as Cindy drove down the road in a really slow manner. She is a very slow driver, and I hate it. So many cars passed us by as we journeyed to school, although it's just a few kilometers. A motorcycle zoomed past us at a horrendous speed. I just sighed and sulked quietly while Cindy sang along to the loud song playing on her stereo. After what seemed like ages, we finally got to school, and as we alighted from the car, I remembered my half-eaten sandwich. I took it with me and munched on it on our way to class. As I brought the sandwich to my mouth and took a bite, someone big and sturdy bumped into me from behind. I stumbled over and almost fell face-flat to the ground, but luckily, I was able to regain my stance. My sandwich fell from my hands, and I choked on the one in my mouth. I began to cough uncontrollably. "I'm so sorry. Are you okay?" A muscular and deep voice asked. I coughed loudly with my eyes shut, feeling like I would die the next moment. "Here, have some water." The guy then thrust a bottle of water in my face. I didn't waste any time and quickly took it from him and drank it all in one go. I felt better afterwards and could finally open my eyes and look at who almost killed me. For a moment, I couldn't say anything. I just stared at his gorgeousness in a stupidly obvious manner.
