Chapter 11 - [10] Priestess

At that moment...

"Koya!" A woman's panicked cry cut through the crowd.

The throng, packed tightly due to the adventurer teams' arrival, had jostled a small boy, no older than five or six, out into the open.

He stumbled, blocking the path of the Four Armaments adventurer team.

Unable to keep his balance, the boy fell, scraping his arm on the ground. Blood seeped from the torn skin.

"Ow… waaah!!"

The sting of the wound, coupled with the terror of being separated from his mother, sent the boy into loud sobs.

The sudden disruption lit a spark in the eyes of Scama, the black-haired, stern-faced captain of Four Armaments.

This was a golden opportunity!

For most adventurer teams, boosting their reputation was crucial.

"Lilynette…" Scama turned, her expression composed, ready to instruct the pink-haired Lilynette to assist.

But before she could speak, Lilynette had already strode forward, the slit hem of her pristine cleric robes swaying with her steps.

Her thighs, encased in large-mesh stockings, drew every eye in the crowd.

A chorus of audible gulps followed.

"Don't worry. Let onee-san take a look." Lilynette said, crouching with a warm smile. She raised her hand over the boy's scraped arm.

"Minor Heal!"

A soft white light emanated from her palm, enveloping the wound. In moments, the boy's arm was restored, smooth as before.

Feeling the pain vanish, the boy stopped crying. Tear-streaked eyes blinked up at Lilynette, who smiled down at him.

"Thank you, nee-san…" He mumbled, but his voice faltered, and he shrank back, fear flickering across his face.

For reasons he couldn't grasp, her smile unnerved him.

Clank! Clank!

The faint clatter of armor announced Scama's approach. She bent down, ostensibly to check the boy's condition.

To the onlookers, she appeared concerned.

In reality, she hissed at Lilynette, her tone venomous. "You pervert, rein in that predatory stare. I won't let our team's budding reputation be tarnished by rumors of you being a shotacon."

Lilynette's tongue flicked out, licking a bead of saliva from her lips. "Unripe fruit is the most tantalizing." She murmured, disappointed.

The boy shrank further, bewildered by the exchange but increasingly convinced these pretty sisters were scary.

Behind them, the two male members of Four Armaments exchanged a glance and sighed in unison.

From the crowd, a middle-aged woman shoved her way through, her face taut with worry. Seeing the boy unharmed, she exhaled in relief.

"Thank you, thank you!" She said, bowing repeatedly, her voice thick with gratitude.

Adventurer teams might not be favored by nobles, but among commoners, they held considerable prestige.

Scama and Lilynette stood, their expressions reverting to professional courtesy. They waved off the thanks with righteous nonchalance.

Adam's attention had shifted from the minor drama. When Lilynette cast her healing spell, his status panel had reacted.

[Detected Skill: Minor Heal (Tier 1). Requires Basic Priestess or Priest Job, Levels 1–7. Current Conditions Not Met…]

[Genius Job Activated. Conversion Successful. Learning Conditions Met. Spend 1 Skill Point to Learn?]

Priestess?

Adam stared at the panel, stunned, his eyes gleaming with intrigue.

No longer interested in the spectacle, he turned and slipped away, seeking a quiet spot to think.

It was midday, the sun blazing. From prior inquiries, Adam knew it was around May, yet the heat rivaled July in his old world.

The Great Tomb of Nazarick would arrive in roughly four years, mid-July. Time was tight, but not so pressing he could rush his job build.

The arena sat near Ro-Lente Castle, at the hill's base, surrounded by lush trees and vegetation, a green buffer separating it from the crowded civilian districts' dense housing.

Adam found a shaded spot under a tree and sat, pulling up his status panel.

By learning Minor Heal, Adam's Genius General Job had added Priestess and Priest to its convertible basic jobs.

What truly surprised and intrigued him was the Priestess job, a basic Magic Caster role.

Its name made it clear: a job exclusive to women.

In Overlord's game, Priestess and Priest had subtle differences.

Simply put, Priestess leaned toward magical roles, with its advanced form, High Priestess, offering enhanced healing capabilities.

That wasn't what caught Adam's attention. The fact that Genius could convert to a female-only job was unexpected.

Did this mean he'd gained a "female character buff." Allowing access to jobs restricted to women?

This tied directly to a Special Job.

From the anime and novels, Adam knew of only a few Special Jobs:

- Ainz's [Eclipse]

- Cocytus's [Asura]

- Shalltear's [Valkyrie]

- Mare's [Calamity Apostle]

- Demiurge's [Origin of Evil]

- Victim's [Martyr]

Albedo also had a Special Job, but neither the anime nor novels named it. Adam only knew it allowed her to transfer death to her armor three times. With revival items, killing her theoretically required four attempts.

Beyond these, there were [World Champion] and [World Disaster], but those were far beyond Adam's current scope.

In YGGDRASIL, there were surely more Special Jobs, but in the New World, Adam lacked the means to explore them.

Thus, he could only choose from these known options.

Of the six, he immediately ruled out [Eclipse], [Origin of Evil], and [Martyr].

[Eclipse], Ainz's Special Job, had clear requirements: mastering all necromancy jobs and reaching level 95. It was an extreme build.

Knowing its structure, Adam dismissed it. With the same build, he'd never outmatch Ainz.

Plus, Ainz had multiple level 100 Floor Guardians. Such an extreme build was too easily countered, especially for a lone player like Adam.

[Origin of Evil] was clearly demon-race exclusive.

[Martyr] was similarly restricted to angelic races.

That left [Asura], [Valkyrie], and [Calamity Apostle], which had less stringent conditions.
