Chapter 22 - 22

Freya quickly caught up to the man, pulled out the whip from her waist, and swiftly swung it. The whip wrapped around the neck of the young strong man driving the ox cart, pulling him down to the ground.

"Ye San, what's going on?" Li Si, who had been quietly talking to the young man Ye San inside the shed, quickly crawled out to check when he saw him suddenly fall.

Freya had already run up to the donkey cart. She grabbed Li Si by the hair as he poked his head out from the shed, yanked him out, and easily threw him to the ground.

By the time she calmed the donkey, Police Yang had also rushed over.

"Don't run!" he shouted as soon as he arrived and saw the two men trying to flee.

Freya stepped forward to block their way, put her hands on her hips, and gave a cold snort.

"This mountain was opened by me, and this tree was planted by me. If you want to pass here, leave a toll!"

The two men… what kind of lunatic is this? Someone take her to a hospital!

Police Yang… what's up with this wild girl!

"You stinking woman, are you looking to die? Get lost!" Ye San pulled a kitchen knife from his waistband and charged fiercely at Freya.

Freya met him head-on, easily grabbed the wrist holding the knife, gave it a light twist, and broke it. Ye San screamed in pain.

"You could at least sharpen your kitchen knife before coming out to act tough. This thing's too embarrassing.

You're like a rabbit wearing a tail brace, pretending to be a big bad wolf."

Freya looked at the rusty kitchen knife with a half-smile.

"You, little wretch, I can kill you with my bare hands even without a knife!"

Ye San, feeling humiliated, clenched his teeth and lunged at Freya with his other hand.

"Freya, be careful!" shouted Police Yang, who was still fighting with the other middle-aged man. Seeing Ye San's move, he hurriedly warned her.

He himself got punched in the face.

Seeing Police Yang get hurt, Freya stopped fooling around. She dodged Ye San's massive punch and delivered a sharp sidekick, knocking him to the ground.

"You bastard with a black heart, you dare go for my face? I'll beat you to death, you damn turtle!"

Freya unleashed a flurry of punches and kicks, beating Ye San unconscious before she felt satisfied.

When she saw Police Yang and Li Si still rolling around on the ground, grappling and struggling, she walked over and kicked Li Si—who was on top, about to pull a knife—two meters away.

"What are you, the wooden fish of an old monk?

You were born to get beaten!"

Trying to kill a police officer? That's like a centipede running into a chicken coop—just begging to die!

Police Yang… it's like a knife just stabbed my butt—what an eye-opener! Even in his youth, he wasn't this fierce!

"Police Yang, please tie them up. A man and woman shouldn't get too close. I can't be near them for long."

Freya didn't want to bother with the aftermath and made up a random excuse.

She turned her attention to the two people—a child and an adult—who had been saved by Secretary Wang and were now hiding and watching the whole scene.

"Sunyue? What happened here?

How did you get kidnapped?"

Freya ignored the unfamiliar boy and looked eagerly at Sunyue, hoping she'd spill some juicy details.

Yes, this girl was the little black chubby one from the neighboring house that Freya had met once before. Curiosity instantly took over.

"Waaah, Freya! Waaah… I was so scared! I thought I'd never see my parents again! Thank you all for saving me!"

Sunyue's dark chubby face was full of fear. She threw her arms around the only woman present and bawled loudly.

Freya, nearly choked to unconsciousness…

You watched the whole thing, and now you remember to be scared?

Are you trying to kill me just to avoid repaying the favor?

Dream on!

Freya coldly grabbed the back of Sunyue's collar and tossed the sobbing, screaming chubby kid aside.

Sunyue, still unwilling to give up, clung to Freya's arm again, softly sobbing.

Freya…

Fine, considering she had just escaped from the kidnappers, Freya decided to tolerate her getting close for now.

"Oh hey, are you Jerome? Your dad is Mr. Zhao and your mom is Madam Zhou, right?"

Police Yang finally tied up the two men. He turned around and saw a boy about ten years old, calm and composed like a little adult.

"Uncle, you know me?" the boy, Jerome, asked cautiously and curiously.

"Comrade Yang, how about we get on the ox cart and talk on the way? The sun's out again, it's getting hot, let's not get heatstroke!"

Freya gave up her curiosity for gossip for now. It was probably around ten o'clock, and the sky had gone from cloudy to sunny. The big sun shining above was scorching.

"Alright, let's get on the ox cart and talk!" Police Yang wiped the sweat off his forehead and turned to lift the unconscious Ye San.

Freya watched as Police Yang and Secretary Wang struggled to drag the unconscious man onto the ox cart.

They were too weak.

She couldn't hold back anymore and quickly stepped up, grabbing both already-tied men, and tossed them onto the cart like throwing out garbage.

"All done. Let's go."

Ignoring the four who were stunned and wide-eyed, Freya casually jumped onto the donkey cart and climbed into the covered part.

At least it had a cover and wasn't so exposed to the sun.

"I want to sit with Freya."

Sunyue and Jerome both spoke up at the same time, their eyes full of admiration.

Both of them quickly climbed into the donkey cart.

Being with Freya felt so safe.

Police Yang and Secretary Wang looked at each other, suddenly feeling competitive. They also wanted to sit in the shaded donkey cart.

So they did rock-paper-scissors to decide. Police Yang won.

Happy with his win, Police Yang drove the donkey cart, while Secretary Wang looked at him bitterly and unwillingly drove the ox cart slowly with the two human traffickers.

"Comrade Freya really is as strong as any man, maybe even better. Not only are you skilled, but you act fast and decisively. If not for you, those traffickers might have slipped right past us."

"Who taught you these skills?" Police Yang asked, full of admiration as he looked toward Freya.

He had hesitated earlier, not daring to act recklessly.

Who knew this girl would act so cleanly and efficiently, taking down two grown men in seconds.

Even while admiring her, a bit of suspicion crept into his heart. He wondered if she was a spy.

He couldn't be blamed for overthinking. There were just too many spies around the Hongniu Brigade. It was like they had stirred up a nest of them.

The former brigade leader, educated youth, commune members, workers, even the villagers had spies among them.

Those spies were everywhere, impossible to guard against. What were they doing hiding deep in the mountains anyway? Looking for treasure or something? It was maddening.

So seeing someone this skilled, sharp, and newly arrived from the capital city made him naturally cautious.

"Oh, my grandpa used to be a soldier. He taught me. I always thought I was a martial arts genius, definitely unbeatable." Freya grinned, looking completely carefree.

She clearly understood that Police Yang was testing her. But so what? She wasn't a spy and had no plans to betray her country. She wasn't afraid.

"Hahaha, you girl. Let's spar sometime."

Police Yang laughed at her boastful tone, finding it amusing and relaxing his suspicion a bit. She's still just a kid.

Besides, what kind of spy would brag so openly about being unbeatable?

"Hahaha, sure. Just don't beg for mercy when the time comes." Freya laughed loudly, teasing him.
