Chapter 10 - RNCS: Chapter 10

Kumoko happily pounced on the frog and began eating voraciously.

What? You say I just boasted about self-reliance and independence? Don't be silly! If I can cling to a powerful ally, why struggle alone? Isn't free food delicious?

Getting hit by monsters is painful!

Seeing Kumoko eating, Ryu Takeno gave up resisting. He'd already been exposed; even if he tried to run, where could he go? The other party could crush him with a thought.

Of course, I'm not referring to the oblivious Kumoko.

I'm talking about 'd', who was watching them and called himself the world's administrator.

Kumoko had been under 'd's surveillance, a similar situation to his own. They were in the same boat. However, he hadn't received any special skills from 'd'. Leveling up didn't heal injuries; he was like most native monsters, the only difference being the Dragon Bloodline from the Dragon Blood inheritance.

Since he'd already been exposed, he might as well stop hiding.

Too many lice don't itch; too much debt doesn't worry you.

Being watched by one god and being watched by two gods didn't seem to make much difference. He could cling to the protagonist's power; she was a boss who'd conquered the Great Labyrinth in a year.

Kumoko had the same idea.

Following this powerful ally would greatly reduce the chance of danger. She wouldn't have to worry about encountering danger, fighting until exhaustion without rescue.

Humans are social creatures. Social animals live in groups, and their activities—eating, sleeping, migrating—are all done collectively, with mutual care and assistance.

Humans are weak creatures who need to stick together to survive.

Even reborn as a snake, Ryu Takeno couldn't change his ingrained habits. His soul was human; only his body was a snake.

After careful consideration, he decided to stay with Kumoko.

Though this "same kind" wasn't truly the same kind, it was far better than being with real monsters.

Those monsters were true monsters, cold-blooded creatures without thought, intelligence, morality, or emotion. They wouldn't care about blood ties or kinship; if they were hungry, they'd eat anything, even their parents.

But I don't have much room to talk.

Ryu Takeno chuckled wryly.

He'd killed his siblings to survive, eating them to fill his stomach. He was now a monster himself. Even if he considered himself human, the humans outside wouldn't see him that way.

The moment he became a monster, he became an enemy of humanity.

"Boss, what should we do next?"

After eating the frog, Kumoko's stamina bar returned to a safe level, and she turned to ask Ryu Takeno about their next move.

She'd already become familiar with Ryu Takeno.

"Wait, wait, wait, I'm not a boss, and don't call me boss; I can't handle such a grand title. My name is Ryu Takeno. Call me Takeno or my full name, but please don't call me boss."

Ryu Takeno was startled by the title "boss" and shook his head repeatedly.

Me, a boss?

The real boss behind her would probably laugh.

I'm super weak, okay?

"Right, sorry, I should introduce myself first." Kumoko tilted her head, gave a sheepish smile, and introduced herself. "I'm Wakaba Hiiro a student on Earth and now I'm a spider monster. Pleased to meet you, boss! Someone who can easily defeat adventurers I can't beat is a boss in my eyes."

Seeing the worship in her eight eyes, Ryu Takeno knew Kumoko was sticking with him.

If he were in her shoes, encountering a stronger countryman, he'd probably cling to them desperately… after all, life was important.

"Don't call me boss, call me Takeno."

Ryu Takeno shook his head and turned to crawl out of the cave.

"Wait for me!"

Kumoko hurried after him.

"Takeno-kun, what are we going to do? How did you get reborn into this world? Were you Japanese in your past life? Do you have a girlfriend?"

For some reason, Kumoko, who was usually quiet in the original story, seemed to have become chatty around him.

Her spider mouth was like a machine gun, firing questions.

Even Kumoko found it strange. In her memory, she was an introverted otaku. Why was she suddenly so talkative?

She seemed like a cheerful, outgoing girl.

Was it because of the pressure of being reborn in another world, with nowhere to vent, and upon meeting a countryman, she wanted to release all that pent-up stress?

But it didn't seem quite right…
