The next second, a loud banging sounded on the door. "Gu Yuze. I know that you are in there. I can hear you muttering. Open this door now or else."
Gu Yuze frowned and walked to the door immediately, he swung it open and came face to face with a woman in a blue Taoist uniform. She had brown hair that was tied into a ponytail and dark brown eyes that stared at him with condescension and a little disgust.
That gaze—Gu Yuze had never received it in his life—but that was not what he was concerned about.
"You…" The shock in the young woman's expression was even larger than the one on his face when he had first transmigrated here. Why was she acting like she had just seen King Yama?
"Gu Yuze, you have finally gone crazy, ba?"
It was Gu Yuze. He had not heard it wrong. Gu Yuze? Gu Yuze wanted to ask her to clarify which Gu Yuze character she was talking about, but he knew that would raise some kind of suspicion.
Gu Yuze had been so concerned about the little ghost king's finances that he had not checked for any other information.
"I am busy now."
The woman wanted to say something else but Gu Yuze stared at her causing her to hesitate. She pursed her lips and turned away, muttering under her breath, "Who cares? I would not be the one that would be punished."
Gu Yuze heard her clearly and slammed the door. Gu Yuze, surely he and this little ghost king can not share the same name. What kind of coincidence is that? Wait—could it have been because they had shared the same name? Had there been some kind of mix-up in the Underworld? Gu Yuze rubbed his temple.
He faced the room. The room was very simple. There was one small bed, a wardrobe, a mirror and a table and chair.
The room was bare of any personal effects, but when he had checked for any chests filled with treasures, Gu Yuze had recalled seeing a box in the last drawer of the wardrobe.
He headed for the wardrobe, pulled open the drawer and picked up the box. It was an old, wooden box with some amateur carvings on the side. The box contained important documents and Gu Yuze picked the first one. It was the little ghost king's national identity card.
For the first time since he had crossed over, Gu Yuze smiled. It was wonderful, a really good thing that they did not share the same name. His 'Yu' meant jade and the 'Ze' meant grace. The character strokes of the little ghost king were different, 'A refreshing moonstone after a humid day.'
"Your parents probably waited for a child for a long time. It is a beautiful name." Gu Yuze said in the empty room as he glanced through the national identity card in front of him.
As for the Gu family name, Gu Yuze did not pay any attention to it. There was no way it could be related to his esteemed Gu family of the Jiangnan Temple.
He put away the identity card and picked up the Household Registration, his eyes narrowing instantly. He had never seen a Hukou that was as short as this one. His own household registration had more than twenty pages. This one had just one page, with the father's name written: Gu Wen.
The name sounded a bit familiar in Gu Yuze's mind, but he did not pay it any attention. Now, he was mostly calm. He understood that he was in a very dire position.
He had not transmigrated into the body of a baby but into that of a young man who had formed relationships, had friends and enemies, and he had no idea who they were. The memories belonged to the soul, not the body, and since the soul of the little ghost king was missing, there was nothing for him to work on.
Celestial Masters might preach the Heaven Way, but that did not mean they were all good people. This was a Taoist school and there should be a few Celestial Masters around. If any of them should discover the anomaly of his transmigration, he was not going to have a good time.
Whether it would be the good Celestial Masters trying to vanquish him so that the little ghost king could return, or the bad ones trying to investigate and learn ways to cheat death, there would not be a good ending for him.
He needed to be careful, at least until he could contact the underworld.
Gu Yuze knew he needed to learn everything that he could about this body. It was just that learning was not his strongest suit; once his father had to tie him to a chair so he could learn the Gu Family Heart Scripture.
He groaned, changing positions as he flipped through the documents and the faded old cultivation manual. After he reached the cultivation manual, there was nothing else. He lifted the box. It still had a little weight to it.
"Oh!" Gu Yuze's lips curled. He loved puzzles the most. A secret compartment in a box, it was as if heaven was being merciful and sending him a grape-flavored lollipop in the middle of the desert.
It had taken him two tries before he had heard the successful cracking and had opened the second layer.
He took one of the envelopes out and took a look at the words written in the very middle of it; To Gu Yuze.
The penmanship was neat, with bold and vigorous strokes. He opened out of the envelope and took out the letter.
The sides of the letter looked worn, as if it had been read several times.
"My dear Gu Yuze."
Gu Yuze gritted his teeth at the words. He was 27 years old, and he had not even kissed a woman and yet this little ghost king had a secret lover at 20 years.
Wasn't he a Taoist student? Shouldn't he focus on his studies?
You see, when students who should be studying hide around, conducting secret romances, they become ghost kings.
