Thomas White is a prodigious scholar who knew all form of basic knowledge about magic and technology. As an inhabitant of Arland, he thought it would be worth to have atleast basic knowledge about magic and technology, he didn't expect that he will become great scholar giving advice to people of Arland, all of which that worked very well resulting many to praise Thomas endlessly. Many mages insisted that Thomas should become a mage due to his incredible understanding of arcane arts, while his unparalelled intelligence caused many technologist to insist that Thomas to become a technologist instead. Since, Thomas was a child of a technologist father and mage mother, Thomas's paterernal side of family wanted him to become a renowned technologist like his father whereas Thomas's maternal side of similar wanted him to become a powerful mage like her mother. Thomas's father William White is a great technologist who specializes in three of eight technological disciplines, they are herbology, chemistry and therapeutics, in fact he has doctorate degree in them, Thomas's mother is a great magician who specializes in four of sixteen spell colleges, they are fire, water, air and earth, all of which are elemental spells, these two were like celebrities in Kingdom of Arland, who helped many people. It was surprising both to get married to each other, despite their opposite aptitudes, as normaly a mage and technologist usually have only informal relationship with each other due to the ongoing rivalry between them, even in Arland, but atleast there is no serious clash between two sides in Arland as opposed to in Unified Kingdom, where technologists constantly abuse their technologies without any care about others including mages, mages on other hand either protest against technologists or tries to sabotage the production and invention of technology. In Arland, where people respect both magic and technology, there is no such clash despite the rivalry, causing Arland to become to good example of a harmonious society. Thomas couldn't decide whether he should become mage or technologist as he cannot choose both, the reason is the aptitude system, those who practice magic possess magical aptitude, which further increases as the mage keep practicing the magic, as for those who learned and understood the natural law and implemented that law by inventing the technology that utilises those laws or/and possess skills that handles technology, will possess technological aptitude instead. Magical aptitude and technological aptitude are polar opposite of each other, they cannot be raised together, if a mage tried to develop technology, their magical aptitude will decrease while a technologist mastering magic will cause their technological aptitude to decrease, if a person tried to learn both, they won't suffer penalty but they won't get any bonus either, so it is meaningless to learn both. Furthermore, an individual with technological aptitude cannot use magic nor they get benefit from magical items, the enchanted artifacts won't work as if it wasn't enchanted at all while consumables will have no effect on user. Same can be said for individual with magical aptitude who although can make technological items without any problem, they cannot use it themselves, as the technology will cause critical failure resulting in accidents, so, it is meaningless for them to use them. However there were exception, such as the four basic elemental buff spells specialising in buffing, they are, agility of fire that enhance and agility of the target, purity of water that enhance the charm of the target, vitality of air that enchance the constitution of the target and finally strength of earth that enhance the strength of the target, these spells can be learned as used by anyone regarless of the aptitude, so even technologist can learn and use them, similarly, anything made from herbology discipline can be used by both technologists and mages, the skills that handles technology is also that can be used regardless of aptitude. Taking advantage of this Thomas learned the four basic elemental buff spells from his mother and from father, he learned the secret of herbology achieving the doctorate degree in it. Right now, he also learned the method of lockpicking and disarming traps, one of the skills tied to technology, as well as the neutral skills of dodge, melee and throwing, for his self defense. In the end he possess a total of 16 technogical aptitude which is impresive for kid as a child technologist usually possess 1 to 8 technological aptitude, as for the reason why there is this much technological is that the four elemental buff spell were not enough to reduce Thomas's technological aptitude, which didn't matter to Thomas as those four spells can be used regrdless of aptitude, besides, as opposed to those four mere buff spells, there is lot to learn in herbology and in addition of possessing two technological skills, Thomas got decent amount of technological aptitude. Because of this, Thomas's paternat side of the family once again insisted that Thomas should become a technologist but Thomas made it clear to his entire family that he will not decide his path until he grow up, beside the technological discipline he learned is that of the herbology, and herbal items can be used by both mages and technologists without any problem, similarly the skills that handle technology can also be used by mages regardless of aptitude. So, if Thomas chose to become a mage, he would still be able to create and use herbal items as well as use skills related to technology. Either way, Thomas declared that he has not intention to pick a path, not yet. Soon, Thomas grew up to be a fine gentleman, who is both handsome and wise, however he still haven't pick a path yet. When Thomas parent's asked him about it, he replied that he will choose a path once he reach Tarant, the capital of Unfied Kingdom, and the most advance town in entire Arcanum that provides countless job opportunity, most of which related to technology, while remaining is related to magic but the pay is higher. After leaving his home, he booked a flight for Tarant. The public vehicle Thomas chose to board is IFS zephyr, a flying transport vehicle, his provide more comfortable travel and with less consumption of time. Thomas Boarded the vehicle not knowing that this was his beginning of a great adventure, which will also cause Thomas to become the first and perhaps also the last hope of the entire Arcanum, which about to face it's doom.
