Julian found herself daydreaming about George in class, imagining what it would be like to talk to him, to be his friend. She wondered if he would notice her, if he would like her. She started to pay more attention to him, watching him play basketball during lunch, and sneaking glances at him in the hallways. Her friends noticed the change in her and started to tease her about having a crush.
"A crush? What does that even mean?" She asked her friends looking shocked and confused. Julian's two friends burst into laughter when she asked what "crush" meant. "You don't know what a crush is?" they teased in unison. Emily explained, "It's when you really like someone, but you're not dating them yet. You feel butterflies in your stomach and can't stop thinking about them." Aria nodded in agreement, "Yeah, like, you have a strong attraction to them, but it's not serious... yet." Julian's eyes widened in surprise, "Oh, I thought it was just a snack!" The two erupted into laughter again, with Emily joking, "Girl, you're crushing it... on ignorance!" They all giggled, happy to enlighten Julian on the mysteries of high school crushes.
Mid conversation, their maths teacher came into the room to teach them and they all went back to their separate sits promising to continue the conversation later that evening.
