Chapter 1 - Bab 1 : The Accident

Henry yawned as he slung his backpack over his shoulder, the weight of textbooks pressing down on him. Another day of high school, another day of the same old routine. He walked out of the school gates, the chatter of his classmates fading into the background as he focused on the thought of getting home and flopping onto his bed. The late - afternoon sun cast long shadows on the pavement, and a gentle breeze carried the faint scent of blooming flowers from the nearby park.

The city streets were alive with activity - cars honked, people rushed past, and the smell of street food filled the air. As he reached a busy intersection, he saw a small child standing on the curb, eyes wide with fear as the traffic whizzed by. The child, no more than five or six years old, was wearing a bright red raincoat that was slightly too big, and tiny pink sneakers that were scuffed at the toes. The child looked around desperately, as if searching for someone to help. Streaks of dirt smudged the child's chubby cheeks, and Henry could see the way the child's lower lip trembled.

Henry's heart went out to the little one. "Hey there," he said, crouching down to the child's level. His voice was soft and gentle, trying to soothe the obvious panic. "Do you need help crossing the road?" The child nodded vigorously, grabbing onto Henry's hand tightly. Henry could feel the child's small, sweaty palm, and he gave a reassuring squeeze.

They stepped onto the road just as a large truck in front of them began to slow down. Henry thought they were safe, but then he heard a screeching sound. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a black car speeding towards them, clearly trying to overtake the truck on the right. The car's headlights were blinding, and Henry could see the driver's face, a look of shock and horror etched across it.

Panic surged through Henry's veins. Without thinking, he yanked the child back with all his might. The force sent them tumbling, and Henry landed hard on the asphalt right in front of the now - stopped truck. But the car behind them was still coming, and Henry felt a searing pain as it collided with his body. The impact was so intense that he could hear the sickening crunch of metal and the sharp intake of breath from the onlookers.

Everything went black for a moment. When Henry opened his eyes, he was lying on the ground, surrounded by concerned faces. An ambulance siren wailed in the distance. And then, out of nowhere, a strange, bright beam of light shot into his brain, making him wince. The light was like a thousand needles piercing his skull, and he let out a pained groan.

As the paramedics carefully lifted him onto a stretcher, Henry caught a glimpse of the child he had saved. The little one was crying, being held tightly by a woman who had rushed to the scene. Henry tried to give a weak smile, but the pain was too much.

When he finally regained consciousness in the hospital, he found himself in a spacious, well - lit VIP room. The walls were painted a soft shade of pale blue, and large windows overlooked the city skyline. The bed was plush, with high - thread - count sheets and multiple soft pillows. A flat - screen TV was mounted on the wall, and a small, elegant table held a vase of fresh white lilies, their sweet fragrance filling the room. There was a separate seating area with a comfortable sofa and armchairs, and a private bathroom that was equipped with modern fixtures and luxurious toiletries. His mother, a worried look on her face, was sitting by his bedside, holding his hand. "Oh, Henry," she said, her voice thick with emotion. "You gave us such a scare."

A few days later, as Henry was starting to feel a bit more like himself, there was a knock on the door of his hospital room. When it opened, he saw the child he had saved, now clean - faced and wearing a cute yellow dress, holding the hand of a well - dressed couple. The man, who introduced himself as Mr. Thompson, had a firm handshake and a grateful smile. "Young man," he said, his voice filled with admiration. "I can't thank you enough for what you did for my daughter, Emily. You're a hero."

Emily peeked out from behind her father's leg, a shy smile on her face. She held out a handmade card, decorated with crayon drawings of hearts and flowers. "Thank you," she said in a small voice. Henry took the card, his heart swelling with warmth. Mrs. Thompson then placed a large, beautifully wrapped gift box on the table. "This is just a small token of our appreciation," she said. Inside, Henry found a brand - new tablet, along with a note expressing their eternal gratitude.

As the Thompsons left, Henry couldn't help but feel a sense of pride. But he also felt different. His body ached, but there was something more. As the doctor examined him, Henry found himself analyzing every word the doctor said, predicting the next question before it was even asked. He chalked it up to the shock of the accident, but little did he know that his life was about to change in the most unexpected way.

When he returned to school, things got even stranger. In math class, the teacher presented a complex calculus problem that had the entire class scratching their heads. To Henry's surprise, the solution popped into his mind almost instantly. He raised his hand and confidently explained the answer, leaving the teacher and his classmates stunned.

"Henry, that's... incredible," the teacher said, eyes wide with disbelief. Henry just shrugged, a confused smile on his face. He didn't understand how he'd done it either.

During lunch break, his friends bombarded him with questions. "Dude, what was that in math class? You never get stuff like that right!" one of them exclaimed. Henry laughed nervously. "I guess I just got lucky," he replied, but he knew it was more than luck.

As the days passed, Henry's new - found abilities only grew stronger. He could remember every single word from the textbooks he'd read months ago, and he could analyze the social dynamics in the school with astonishing accuracy. But with these powers came some comical moments.

One day, while sitting in the cafeteria, he noticed his friend Jake eyeing a slice of pizza on the table. Henry, in his over - analytical state, decided to calculate the exact moment Jake would reach for the pizza. "Based on Jake's rate of eye movement and the way his hand is twitching, he'll reach for the pizza in... three, two, one..." But just as he finished his prediction, Jake, who had no idea what Henry was doing, accidentally knocked over his drink, splashing Henry with soda.

"Sorry, man!" Jake said, laughing. Henry groaned, wiping the soda off his face. "My calculations were off," he muttered to himself, causing his friends to burst into laughter. Little did Henry know that these were just the beginning of his adventures, and that he was on the cusp of discovering the true secret behind his enhanced brain...
