Chapter 1 - The Second Coming of Vidra

Deep inside the elven forests, where magic and nature formed an ethereal harmony. There lived the last surviving members of the remaining high elf population.

The village of Inaka as the wanderers called it was populated by elves whose life span and mana affinity long surpassed the normal. Thus, they were called high elf. Indicating their similarity yet difference compared to their normal elven peers.

Unbothered by the outside world. They lived inside this little village at their own pace, not knowing about their spreading fame as the secretive and mysterious divine elves.

The forest was vast and bountiful. Nobody ever reached the center, where the village was located, and the elves of Inaka never had a reason to leave their homeland.

The ancient forest village was peaceful, happy, safe and perhaps just as eventful as the outside world. Thousands of years taught them to appreciate the life they had the chance to experience here.

Hours turned into days, and days turned into years. Time flowed and the village of Inaka remained unchanged, not knowing that the outside world fell into chaos.

Human empires fell, and new ones took their place. Slavery was abolished and reintroduced. The demons invaded, the elves started a revolution. In the end, the humans gained the upper hand and the outside world faced a drastic change as they conquered nations.

However, amidst the chaos of war, the village of Inaka welcomed an unusual event. A birth of a new member. The birth of the next village chief drew attention from all walks of life inside the village.

Everyone wanted to see the young heir of Inaka. A colossal crowd surrounded the main house of the village. A sky piercing wooden castle that seemingly grew out of the soil.

Inside the main house, three people stood in a semi circular pattern, their attention on a long eared baby.

"He reminds me of Vidra."

Mumbled the young caretaker as she looked at the newborn with gentle eyes.

"One hundred percent similarity. They have the same expression on their face as well. LOOK!"

The energetic caretaker ran outside the room and quicky came back. This time with a cute otter in her arms. She quickly lifted the otter beside the baby and compared them.

"Bwaa, Hahahaha"

Lung, the father broke down in hysterical laughter as he compared the face of his baby with the village's favorite otter. They had a satisfied look on their face, similar to cats when they fall asleep after a good meal.

"I think we just found out his name. Do you agree, Serina?"

Asked Lung as he looked at his beautiful wife with sparkling green eyes. Suggesting her that he can't be convinced otherwise at this point.

"Mhm, Vidra it is."

She replied while nodding happily. Vidra was the beloved otter of their village. Everyone cared for him and played with him. His presence brought the villagers together and gave them happiness.

Serina hoped that their child would grow up with the same qualities and be a blessing to those who meet him in the future.

"Let us go now. The villagers must be curious."

The trio quickly made their way across the castle. Stopping in front of the entrance, while facing the ever growing crowd of curious villagers.

The crowd fell silent as Lung pushed open the giant doors with the baby cradled in his other arm.

He stole Vidra, the otter from the caretaker and quicky rushed ahead. Serina facepalmed as she observed Lung lifting up their baby and Vidra at the same time while addressing the villagers.

"Meet Vidra! Our favorite furball and your future village chief."

The crowd was confused at first, not understanding the joke, but those who took a second look quickly understood the meaning behind Lung's words and started laughing.

Soon, the whole village was enveloped in warm laughter. Serina and Lung looked at each other with happiness as they welcomed the rest of their life. This time with their child, Vidra accompanying them.

A few days later they decided to hold a festival. Having a new village chief in the making was something most high elves experienced a few times, as their life span was more than five thousand years.

It was always a happy occasion, but they never held a festival such as this one so far. There were multiple reasons for this, but the most notable one is the undeniable popularity of the current village chief and his wife.

Lung and Serina viewed the village as one big family. They were not only talented, but truly cared for the village as well.

The village expanded, and the population started increasing for the first time in thousands of years as a result of their governance.

The giant festival lasted for six days. Countless high elves made new friends during this time. New love blossomed, and many unforgettable memories were created.

This event became known as the Vidra Festival. The villagers decided to hold it every year in honor of the happiness they experienced during the past six days.

A few days after the first festival, everything returned to how it used to be. The villagers continued with their daily life albeit slightly happier.

Time passed, and the next festival quickly arrived. Vidra took his first steps in front of the villagers. This timing cemented his position as the most popular toddler across Inaka. The villagers started viewing Vidra as a special child who truly brought happiness, similarly to his otter counterpart.

Lung and Serina couldn't be more happy to see this development. It seemed like their child lived up to his name.

Soon, it became evident that the village of Inaka entered a golden age. The population started skyrocketing a few months after Vidra took his first steps. It was almost as if the development of the young Vidra was equal to the development of the village itself.

Of course, this was nothing more than a coincidence, an almost impossible twist of fate. However, the villagers thought something else. Especially the superstitious elderly.

At the age of eight, Vidra officially became the next in line to be a village chief. Lung was not happy with this decision, but they had no choice as the majority of elders in Inaka believed that Vidra was special.
