Richard's POV
I sat in my office going through some files, feeling so hectic from the day's work. I felt troubled and tired. I had been working non-stop for hours, and of course, that was taking a huge toll on me. After finishing the last document, my door opened as Stewie walked in with a lunchbox in his hands, wearing a cheesy smile on his face.
"You've been working so hard for this company, like, so hard for the Calway. I don't know how much longer you have to prove yourself to them. You are a son-in-law, and I know they care so much about you. You don't have to do too much," Stewie said to me as I chuckled, closing the final document and pushing it aside, motioning for him to bring the lunchbox closer because I was starving.
I had only drank coffee continuously all day, and it had taken a huge toll on me. For some weird reason, I felt like I was getting a headache, something of that sort.
"I don't really care about anything you see. Right now, I am just hungry, like very hungry, and I could kill for some food. I just need food, food, and food," I said, and he laughed as he sat opposite me and crossed his legs before opening his own lunch. As he watched me devour mine, I noticed he had something to say. He looked around one more time before moving his chair closer to me and placing his hand on mine.
"I have something to say. I know that I am not supposed to say it, but you are the only one who doesn't know, and I am feeling so bad for you right now. What are you going to do if you find out that Anna is cheating on you? What would you do? I know that you love her and you believe she loves you sincerely because you are helping her family, and you are poor, and her family loves you. I am your friend, and I am telling you the truth. I have tried my best to keep it away from you, but I couldn't do it," Stewie whispered to me as I felt a bit confused.
"Where exactly are you heading to, Stewie? Didn't I tell you multiple times that you shouldn't use my status in life to compare my love for Anna? I know that Anna loves me very much, and that is very important. I don't care about anything else anymore. I just want Anna. Nothing. And you can never tell me she's cheating on me. She can never do that. She loves me and only me, and she always makes sure to assure me that she can never go for any man," I tried to assure Stewie, even though I had a doubt in my own mind.
"Really? She assured you? She told you gibberish words, and you believed her? I just don't want you to be heartbroken. I just don't want you to be heartbroken at all. Okay? Please try your best. Do better. Find out, intervene more into another life, and stop being so fixed on the business. No matter how high you take this company to, they would never make you their heir. You aren't their family. You are just their son-in-law," Stewie added as I stood up instantly, taking my jacket as I locked the lunchbox.
"Are you angry at me for what I said?" he questioned me as I looked at him and rolled my eyes.
"I am not angry at you. I am just already tired. I think I lost my appetite from you continuing to tell me that my wife is unfaithful. She isn't. I am just going to go home and assure myself and, of course, find a way to question her so that I won't continue to act so dumb while you tell me the truth. I don't want it to be like you're telling me the truth and I refuse to believe you," I said to Stewie as he laughed.
"I know you might doubt me, but I am the only person who cares for you in this entire company. That's the promise. I am the only one who wants you to survive more than anything," Stewie promised.
He stood up one more time and then placed his hands on my shoulder as a way of reassuring me before he walked out, not even telling me goodbye. And of course, he took his lunch with him.
"He was so greedy," I muttered to myself as I packed mine, placed it into my suitcase because it was a very small lunchbox. Closing it up with a few documents in my hands, I stepped out of the office.
I marched toward the elevator, and of course, it opened instantly, only for me to see my father-in-law standing right there with his stiff face. When he saw me, his face became even stiffer, and he looked very angry at me.
"So finally you are done. I hope all the documents are as they should be. I don't want this company crumbling because you are not capable. You have to be capable for you to be worth my daughter. Do you understand?" he said to me as I bowed instantly.
"Yes Sir, I know, Mr. Calway. I am trying my best, and I promise you that this project will not crumble at all," I promised him, even though I did not know if I was really doing a good job, but I knew I had put in all my best.
"That is the best thing you have said today. I am glad for that, though. Now let's get straight to the point. Tomorrow's meeting. You have to be there as early as possible. We are traveling. I know that you are too broke to afford your own plane to Qatar, so I have sorted everything out. You just have to be here on time. Do you understand? Do not fail me," he yelled, pressing the button continuously as the elevator door opened, letting him out while I was left inside.
I felt so exhausted just talking to him that I could not help but fall back and relax my body against the elevator wall, feeling drained. He always had a way of sucking out my energy by doubting me and always thinking I am not worth his daughter.
I stood up and drove home straight. Of course, the only way to ease all the heartache and all the day's work was to hug my Anna and have her around me all the time. That was the only way to ease the pains I always felt.
I opened the door, and what I saw hit me like a huge shock, causing my briefcase to fall from my hand. It was Anna and my best friend, Joe. I could not believe it. Stewie was not lying. Stewie was not lying to me at all.
I quickly turned around and stormed out of the mansion angrily. Just then, I felt my phone vibrating, only for me to see it was a mysterious call. I picked it up, and of course, that was the moment my life changed, for better or for worse.
