Chapter 4 - Just One Request

"Alright, that's enough", the Ascension God said after gaining his composure. He dissipated the light around himself and his formless figure took on the form of a middle-aged man. He stepped down from his throne and walked slowly towards the young man who stood straight and unwaveringly, his thoughts unknown.

"Lad, what is your name?"

"Ren Qian", he answered shortly but cautiously.

He had heard that Immortals and Ascension Gods were eccentric entities. They could do anything for their pleasure.

He had come here for a purpose but he couldn't kill himself here.

"Well then, young lad, you have proven yourself worthy. You have the right to ask for three things from us"

The middle-aged man said with a welcoming smile, making the prejudiced Immortals frown.

'Why the heck is this old man allowing him three wishes for conjuring just a tiny ball of light?' were their thoughts.

"Thank you, Senior", the young man kowtowed.

"I would like to ask for just one thing from Senior Ascension God", he said, turning to face the Immortal of Time.

This made him raise his eyebrows slightly but since his face was covered with a spiritual mask, no one could see.

"If it's not too much to ask, I would like to relive my entire past and I believe Senior Ascension God can help me", he bowed deeply while asking.

'Just that?', the Ascension God thought.

'He came all the way from the Lower Heaven to ask for this?'

This was the thought running through everyone's mind, including the Ascension God.

Everyone kept silent, waiting for him to continue but he didn't, still maintaining his posture, leaving everyone at loss for words.

"Why do you wish to relive your past, lad?", the Ascension God asked.

And the young man pondered quietly how to answer the question, leaving everyone in anticipation.

It was not that he was reluctant to answer, in reality, he was reminiscing. He was indeed from the lower heavens. His clan had been annihilated completely and he was the only survivor. He had personally witnessed his half-sister dying. Their entire family was poisoned during their usual annual festival. Thankfully, he had decided to observe the fast according to the clan tradition as he was the youngest in the house. Unfortunately, they were not cultivators, so they had all died and he was the only survivor of the clan. He had vowed to become stronger, and he had managed to climb the ladder of power slowly through his adventures. Although his cultivation was not really worth mentioning, because of the cultivation method he used, he had gained immense power way above his cultivation level. He had taken revenge and claimed his clan's legacy. But he found himself unable to advance his cultivation rank because of the guilty conscience that had riddled him because of his inability to protect his family during that time. It had become his heart Evil Qi, one thing that cultivators had to overcome in order to go beyond their mortal shackles and gain 'immortality'. Therefore, he had journeyed to the Upper Heavens after finding out that whoever proved worthy could ask for something their hearts truly desired and it will be granted and that was why he came. He wanted to go back to the past and relive that moment, maybe that could help him let go of his guilt.
