Chapter 23 - Distance

Cheng Jiu gave him a sidelong glance and said, "I want you to be quiet."

Xiao Shi: "..." Xiao Shi, who had been scolded, kept quiet.

Even Jiang Tang and Cheng Jiu had never been so fierce.

Xiao Shi didn't know what went wrong either. He just felt that the aura between Cheng Jiu and Xin Gan was off, making it hard to figure out.

Back in the car, Xin Gan sat stiffly in the back seat. Perhaps because she had just had an unpleasant encounter with Cheng Jiu, her expression was not good and she didn't even glance at him.

Cheng Jiu got into the car. Through the rearview mirror, he saw her hands lying flat on her legs, her pale lips pursed, her delicate eyebrows slightly furrowed, and her eyes lowered. He casually withdrew his gaze, inserted the car key into the lock hole, turned it, and started the engine.

The whole journey was full of hardships and torturings, especially motion sickness and nausea. At noon, she still forced herself to eat more than half a bowl of beef noodles. She didn't finish the remaining one-third because she really couldn't swallow it.

Xin Gan summed up her impression of him, which was mixed. Anyway, he wasn't a particularly easy person to get along with.

She suddenly felt relieved that he had agreed to break off the marriage. Otherwise, if she really married him in the future, she was afraid that her life would be very hard.

She doesn't want to marry a man she doesn't like.

I don't want to live the life my mother used to have either.

Cheng Jiu had no idea that in just half a day, his impression of Xin Gan Li had plummeted.

The car drove for another half an hour. It was still Asonli who noticed something was wrong with Xinggan.

"Sister, you've sweated a lot."

The child couldn't speak fully. Xiaoshi thought it was because the air conditioning in the car wasn't turned on enough and said, "Then I'll lower the air conditioning a bit."

Cheng Jiu's thin lips curved slightly, but he didn't respond.

Xin Gan took a deep breath and suddenly shouted urgently, "Stop! Pull over. I can't do it anymore!"

After a sudden brake, the car came to a steady stop by the roadside. Xin Gan opened the car door and ran to the side of the road, bending over and vomiting.

She endured for most of the day, but still couldn't hold back.

Cheng Jiu saw this and then unfastened his seat belt to get out of the car. Instead of walking over immediately, he stood by the car door waiting.

Xin Gan felt as if his stomach was about to burst out of his throat. Standing there, he had no strength at all, so he simply bent down and squatted by the roadside to throw up.

Xiao Shi hurriedly took the toilet paper and mineral water from the car and handed them to her, saying, "Miss Xin, are you okay?" Are you feeling better?

Xin Gan shook his head, having no extra strength to speak.

She smoked a few pieces of paper, said "Thank you", and wiped her mouth. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Cheng Jiu standing by the car smoking, looking at her side with a cold expression, feeling extremely uncomfortable, as if she had been laughed at. She couldn't help but think that every time she was in the most awkward situation, she was caught by him. Now, well, she was going to be scolded by him again.

Thinking like this, her stomach welled up again. She turned her head to the other side and avoided Xiao Shi.

Asongli was also about to get off. Cheng Jiu turned his head and glared at him, saying sternly, "Who told you to get off? Go back."

Asonli was frightened, touched his hand back and sat in the car.

Xin Gan threw up all the food she had for lunch, leaving her stomach completely empty. Only then did she feel better. She rinsed her mouth and said "Thank you" to Xiao Shi several times, which made Xiao Shi feel rather embarrassed and say, "You're welcome. You're too shy." Oh, by the way, Miss Xin, are you carsick? I have motion sickness medicine in my car. Wait a moment. I'll get it for you.

Cheng Jiu finished smoking a cigarette, exhaled all the bitterness and sweetness, and dealt with the filth before walking back.

Cheng Jiu's hostility was not as strong as before. He gave her a faint glance and said, "If you don't feel well, tell me earlier."

Xin Gan, out of politeness and estrangement, said, "Sorry for the delay."

It was obvious that she wanted to keep a distance from him and not have too much contact with him.

So all the way, I didn't say a word to him. I would rather have a casual chat with Xiao Shi than pay any attention to him.
