Chapter 2 - The Heaven Hates Cheat Mods
"Oh, this mod."
The mod name brought back a lot of memories. Infinite currency was the easiest cheat that new video game modders, cheaters, or hackers usually started with when they first learned to code, and Fu Tong also used to make some of these during his early years.
Fu Tong smiled for a moment before his expression turned solemn. He reread the mission objective for the third time.
"Write a script? How? There's no computer or anything similar."
He stared at the floating semi-transparent blue screen, waiting for an automatic answer or message. However, his system didn't have an AI helper. No fancy sentient spirit showed up to give hints like the novel tropes that Fu Tong had read in the past.
Figuring everything on his own, Fu Tong experimented the system by reciting random keywords.
"Summon Notepad++."
Nothing happened.
"Activate Notepad."
Nothing happened.
"Open Debug Mode."
Nothing happened.
Fu Tong scratched his head, annoyed. He didn't give up.
"Run Command Console."
DING
A black overlay screen appeared on top of the blue system monitor. The interface resembled the DOS screen.
Seeing a flashing line on the top left, Fu Tong grinned. He deeply inhaled and closed his eyes, recalling his old memory and dusting his programming skills. When he reopened his eyes, he searched for a keyboard or anything to type in the codes.
Unfortunately, there was nothing. No built-in keyboard existed on the screen.
"Where is a freaking keyboard?"
DING
The screen flashed, and white text emerged on the black screen.
Where is a freaking keyboard
Fu Tong paused for a moment. A few seconds later, he chuckled and swiped the entire line. As no delete button existed, he ordered the screen.
"Delete the highlighted texts."
The highlighted texts vanished as instructed as though someone had pressed the backspace button.
Fu Tong nodded as he got the gist of it. However, he needed to test something else.
"Testing. Shift + Enter."
The word "Testing" appeared as intended. In addition, the flashing line moved down a line.
"Erase everything."
The words disappeared, but Fu Tong wasn't finished. He tested another important typing method.
"GameAPI-dot-GetItem."
More words followed.
Game ae pee eye.Get item
"Game-Capital-letter-A-Capital-letter-P-Capital-letter-I-dot-Get-item."
A new word appeared.
GameAPI.Get item
Fu Tong clapped his hands. Although the method was annoying, he finally figured out how this screen worked. After erasing everything, Fu Tong took a deep breath. He uttered words and minded his pronunciation.
local npc = GameAPI.GetNPC("npc_225107")
if npc then
npc:SetName("Fu Tong")
end
After finishing the simple code, Tong sighed. He stared at the screen, pondering to himself.
'How do I compile or update the codes with this interface? I really wish it had a built-in engine or app. Speech-to-text coding sucks.'
As soon as Tong thought of applying the changes, the black screen was closed. The system screen changed, and a confirmation message arrived.
Verification Completed.
Objective completed! Infinite Gold Coins Mod has been installed.
Fu Tong smiled and was about to inspect his updated status screen. As he moved, his heart shook, and the heart attack pain struck him. He fell to his knees and clenched his chest. Sweat poured from his face and hair.
He felt like dying.
'Not again!'
Struggling to get up, Tong grabbed the earth jar in front of him, but his legs and knees lost all strength. He sat there, resting and catching his breath for an hour.
After resting, the pain subsided. Strength and heat returned to his body. Fu Tong gnashed his teeth and got up. Lingering pain still haunted him, but he endured and stared at the system screen, confused.
This never happened in vanilla games or the modded games.
Fortunately, the system was not heartless. It provided clues.
This is the end of the heaven's tutorial. Good luck on your journey.
Heaven's Tutorial?
Heaven's Laws?
Fu Tong recalled the nature of this game.
The vanilla game was designed to be a soul game but without a revive option. Lores were hidden throughout the game. Because of the abundant lore and hidden content of this game, online content creators made a lot of money by uncovering the game's lores and clues.
The heart attack earlier was also a part of the game's lore. This game world—The Mortal World of Ji Dynasty—was protected by Heaven's Laws, aka their ancestor's power.
One of the clauses stated that commoners who wasn't born into a family with cultivation background would receive a life-changing opportunity when they became an adult. Those who managed to gain a cultivation base within a year after being shocked by a weak tribulation lightning in the heart would receive a blessing. However, those who failed would never gain a second chance in life, being stuck as a commoner forever.
'That must be one of those stupid heaven 's laws.'
Fu Tong let out a long sigh of relief. The countdown had begun—He had one year to become a cultivator.
The system interface also updated and created a new mission.
Mission Objective: Travel to Divine Cloud Sect and join the entrance examination event within a month.
Mission Rewards: Infinite Carrying Weight Mod
Failure Penalty: You lose one of the mods.
"Not giving me a choice, eh?"
Although the system quest forced him to travel and join an event, it aligned with his goals. He also had a business with the sect.
Unfortunately, he didn't know where he was. He either needed a map or a clue. He didn't know where to start looking.
Changing mood, Fu Tong patted his clothes and inserted his hand into his pants pocket.
At first, the pocket was empty. But as Fu Tong thought of the infinite gold coins perk, a gold coin manifested in the pocket and landed in his hand. He pulled it out and examined the coin.
On its surface, the face of Ji Clan's patriarch was engraved into it. The back of the coin was also sculpted into the face of his most cherished immortal daughter.
Fu Tong smirked at the coin and put it back in his pocket. He had no business with the Ji Clan, and he had no intention of getting involved with them. He exited the hut, taking the first step outside.
'Time to touch grass.'
