"The past always finds its way back into the present, and it's often the things we've buried that come to the surface first."
---
Aarika's breath caught in her throat as the figure stepped into the dimming light. For a moment, she couldn't place the face — the eyes that seemed to pierce through her soul, the familiar air of power that radiated from him. Then, like a ghost from her past, the pieces fell into place.
No… it can't be.
Her pulse quickened, the sudden wave of realization crashing over her. The man who had haunted her thoughts for years, the one she'd thought was nothing more than a fleeting memory, was standing in front of her.
It was Arjun.
Her heart stuttered. Arjun, the man who had left her without a word, who had been part of a past she could never forget. He was here — in front of her. And everything she thought she knew about her life seemed to tilt at an alarming angle.
"Aarika," Arjun's voice was deep and calm, but there was a flicker of something else in his eyes, something she couldn't quite read. "It's been a long time."
Damon's hand instinctively reached out to Aarika, his grip tightening slightly. "What the hell is going on here? Aarika, do you know him?"
Aarika didn't answer immediately, still frozen in place, her mind racing. How had Arjun ended up here, after all this time? And why now, when everything was already falling apart?
"Arjun?" Aarika finally managed, her voice trembling. "What… what are you doing here?"
Arjun's lips twitched into a small, almost sad smile. "I never meant to make you feel abandoned, Aarika. But I had my reasons for leaving. And I never thought I'd have to return to this life... but here I am."
Damon, clearly not understanding the connection between them, stepped forward, his voice sharp. "What do you want with her? And what does this have to do with everything that's happening?"
Arjun's gaze flickered briefly to Damon, then returned to Aarika. "Everything. This world, the choices you're facing, the powers that you're about to awaken — it all has something to do with me."
Aarika's heart skipped. "What do you mean?"
Arjun's eyes darkened, and the air seemed to grow heavier. "I'm part of the reason all this is happening. There's a legacy, something passed down through our families. I thought I could escape it, but I couldn't. Now it's time for you to learn the truth."
Damon stepped back, his confusion deepening into suspicion. "This is insane. Are you saying you know everything that's going on?"
Arjun's gaze never wavered. "I know more than I want to. But it's not about me anymore, Damon. It's about Aarika. She's tied to this — to everything."
Aarika's stomach churned with a mixture of emotions: anger, confusion, betrayal. She had spent so long trying to forget Arjun, trying to move on from the scars he had left. And now, he was back, dragging her deeper into a world she didn't fully understand. The truth was like an unraveling thread, pulling everything in different directions.
"What do you mean, 'tied to this'?" Aarika asked, her voice barely a whisper.
Arjun hesitated for a moment before answering. "You're a part of something much bigger, Aarika. The Dharmaputra bloodline isn't just some family secret. It's a lineage of power — a power that has been sought after for centuries. And you... you're the key."
Aarika recoiled slightly, her heart racing. "No. No, this can't be real. I'm just... me. I'm not part of some ancient legacy."
"You are," Arjun said, his voice firm. "But you've been kept in the dark for too long. Your power, your connection to everything — it's been hidden, kept from you for a reason. But it's time for you to accept it. The choice is yours, Aarika, but understand this: the world will change because of what you decide."
Aarika felt the weight of his words pressing down on her chest, threatening to crush her. She had been living her life, trying to find balance, to understand who she was. But now, everything she knew seemed to be shattering. Was she really meant for this power? Was she really a part of something bigger?
"You're lying," she whispered, though her voice was filled with doubt.
"No," Arjun said softly, taking a step closer to her. "I'm not. But it's not just about power. It's about choices. And those choices come with consequences. You will have to decide how you want to wield it — and who you want to be. Because once you take that step, there's no going back."
Damon moved toward her, his hand brushing against hers. His gaze flickered to Arjun, a mix of protectiveness and anger in his eyes. "Aarika, don't listen to him. He's been part of this from the beginning, playing both sides."
But Aarika's gaze was fixed on Arjun now. "What do you want from me?"
"I'm not here to take anything from you," Arjun said, his voice almost pleading. "I'm here to help you understand what's coming. To help you control it before it destroys everything. You're not alone in this, Aarika. And you don't have to do it by yourself."
The silence between them was thick, the weight of his words hanging heavy in the air. Aarika's mind was swirling with confusion, with anger, and with fear. She didn't know who to trust anymore. Damon's presence felt like an anchor, but Arjun's return had opened doors she didn't know were even there.
She took a deep breath, trying to steady herself. There was only one thing she knew for sure now: the world was changing around her, and she was at the center of it all.
To be continued...
