Chapter 2 - NOR-001

I. The Beginning of the Story:

Imagine you're driving home after a camping trip with friends. It's late at night, and only the sound of the car engine and the tires rolling over the road accompany you. The headlights of your car cast a faint glow, barely lighting the empty road ahead. The darkness stretches endlessly on either side.

The trip was fun, but now you just want to get home, rest in your bed, and forget about the cold night air. Yet, there's something off. It's a feeling that's hard to put into words, but it's there—like there's some presence nearby that you can't see.

This road is familiar. You've driven it a hundred times before, but tonight, something feels different. The air is colder, sharper, as if winter had come early. You push the gas pedal a little harder, hoping to reach home faster.

A few minutes pass, and then you hear it.

Footsteps.

The sound of footsteps, rhythmic and deliberate, but not your own. They come from behind, faint but distinct enough for you to notice. You glance back, but there's nothing—just the light from your headlights illuminating the empty road. You laugh nervously, telling yourself you're just tired, that it's nothing more than the silence of the night playing tricks on you.

Then, they come again.

The footsteps don't stop; they're still there, following you, sometimes closer, sometimes farther. You can't explain it, but the sensation is undeniable, like something is stalking your every move.

You glance back once more. And this time, you see it.

The shadow.

It's not a human shape, but just a vague, indistinct shadow standing in the road behind you. The headlights cast light on it, but it doesn't reflect like an ordinary object. Instead, it flickers in the air, as if it doesn't even exist—just a faint, ghostly presence.

A chill runs down your spine. Your heart races. You honk the horn, but no one responds. You can't stop, can't take your eyes off the steering wheel, though a part of you wants to flee, to leave behind this inexplicable feeling.

Suddenly, there's a noise from behind, clearer this time, like someone knocking on the window. You turn around, but the darkness still reigns. Nothing. Just the silence and the sound of your own breathing.

The feeling doesn't go away. Now, it's not just the footsteps. It's something more—an overwhelming sense of being watched. The shadow remains, unmoving, but you can feel its presence growing more threatening by the second.

You can't take it anymore. Your foot slams the gas pedal, trying to escape, but it's no use. The footsteps begin to echo from all around you—not just from behind, but from every direction. They grow closer. You don't know what to do. All you can do is feel it coming.

Then, a sudden crash.

Not from your car, but somewhere nearby. You scream, but a gust of cold air pours into the car, freezing the air around you. You lose consciousness.

The Legend of "The Watcher"

The next morning, your car was found by the side of the road. The door was open, and the keys were still in the ignition. There were no other signs. No trace of you. The only thing left was a faint bloodstain on the driver's seat. Those living nearby reported hearing footsteps that night, but when they went outside, there was nothing—just the silence of the night.

From that moment on, the story of "The Watcher" began to spread. It was said that this creature never showed itself directly. It simply stayed hidden in the darkness, watching every movement you made. And when you were no longer able to resist, it would draw closer and... end everything.

V. Monitoring Log

Excerpt from Agent Stack's report – July 3, 2014

[03:12 AM] – Agent Richart and I arrived at sector ███ following an alert from the NOR sensor grid. The temperature dropped abruptly to 6°C, despite no weather anomalies being reported.

[03:19 AM] – Flashlights began flickering. Richart claimed he heard footsteps behind us, even though we were standing completely still. No thermal signatures were detected.

[03:27 AM] – Spotted a shadowy figure moving between the trees, approximately 1.85m to 2m in height. Night vision equipment failed to capture any clear visuals.

[03:34 AM] – Richart lost contact for approximately 11 seconds. When found, he was trembling and unable to recall what had happened. The only thing he said was:

"It was right behind me. So close. But no breathing."

Excerpt from Agent Richart's personal notes – July 4, 2014 (written post-incident)

I still can't sleep. Every time I close my eyes, I see that shadow standing next to me.

It wasn't human. It wasn't an animal. It was just... absence, as if light itself was swallowed by it and never came back.

Stack said he didn't see anything. But I know... it touched me.

I don't think I'm safe anymore.

NOR should consider permanently sealing off sector ███.

VI. Time & Manifestation Conditions

Timeframe: Most active between 12:00 AM and 4:00 AM, when both natural and artificial lighting are at their weakest.

Environmental conditions: Commonly appears in remote areas, dense forests, or abandoned settlements. Manifestation likelihood increases during moonless nights, with light fog or overcast skies.

Tends to target individuals who are alone, especially those experiencing mental isolation, stress, or emotional breakdowns.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

VII. Avoidance & Containment Protocols

Avoid traveling alone at night in known affected regions.

Carry high-intensity lighting such as powerful LED flashlights, though their effectiveness diminishes once the entity enters a hunting state.

Refrain from staring into pitch-black spaces in forests or abandoned structures – these are its typical hiding zones.

NOR advises against direct confrontation. If signs of manifestation are detected, immediate retreat and contact with the nearest NOR command center are mandatory.

To date, no reliable long-term containment or termination methods have been confirmed.
