Chapter 1 - Surchen

This town was where Surin was born.

After 4 years of the Great Gondwana war, on the floor of a worn out hut in the middle of the scorching desert of Sorn, a woman gave birth to a baby and died, somehow. Some say he crawled out of her. I don't believe that.

He was 10 years old when he had mastered killing vultures. Once he gets his hands on one vulture, he would eat some part and leave the rest on the desert sand. Vultures will come to scavenge it, and he will be ready with an arrow and shoot, then repeat the same cycle next day, at a different place.

Not much is known about his early days. It was after he came to power than people really know what he is.

The Grand Regime rules the country as the government of Surchen, where our town Pedro is there. Where Surin was born. Where I live.

Surin started it at 18, they say, a small revolutionary group to resurect the lost country of Surchen. The country was a lawless hell, people were suffered, hungry, and angry: the perfect recipe to make a crowd controllable. All he needed was promises and extreme radical actions. People as a group love radical. When they are hungry and you kill the guy who took their food they'll cheer for you more than they will when you give them food. He gave them promises of freedom, while all he did was pass the reigns from bad hands to worse, his own. And once the reigns were in his hands, he showed his true colours, abandoned all his promises and started ruling over the country as a new king.

It's been 7 years, and all we have seen is tyrany and suffering, people dying from hunger, diseases, miserable life of an insect, even cannibalism has become a common sight due to lack of food, while all the resourses are enjoyed by the government. And if anyone ever rises no one supports them because after what Surin did, people of this country are afraid to trust a leader.

I watch all this from a distance. I have become to cold it all, used to this constant dark, suffering, death around me.

I was a fighter too, when I was 16, I wanted to fight, to change things, but that me died with my sister, my only family, 3 years ago. I was broken, and I realised even if spent 10 lifetimes I won't be able to touch a low ranking officer of the Regime.

My heart went cold over the years, and now I live in the woods by hunting, and stay away from the population and misery of the country.

I have no permanent place to stay, no home, I keep moving around to animal populated areas and spend night in caves or a make shift tent that I carry around with me. Sometimes I meet traveling traders and trade away meat for fruits and biscuits and sometimes even milk or bread, a rarity in today's world, but mostly it's meat.

And the only companion I have is my pet wolf, Sheldy. It follows me around everywhere and helps me hunt, whole I feed him. He's the only one I have this world, the only one which whom my emotions are attached to, atleast whatever remains if them.

And my name?

Droy.

I am almost 20 now, and this my life and the world I live in.

My grandfather used to say times have never been worse in history than they are now, and I will agree. But it's doesn't matter, not anymore, I am quiet fulfilled with the life I have now.

I thought I'll live off my days like this.

And, ofcourse, I was wrong.

As my mother said, fate loves surprises, twists and turns, and things will never go as you expect them to.
