Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Furina: The Pain, It's Too Painful!

"Lady Furina is too good to us!"

"As expected of Lady Furina, always thinking of us!"

The onlookers were deeply moved.

Compared to the Mora required for the card draws, their incomes were still somewhat meager. Everyone had their own concerns, but the most obvious one was right in front of them: the odds!

Now that Furina was willing to test the waters for them, they couldn't be happier.

"How much does Lady Furina plan to draw?"

Clorinde, having finished dismantling the other cards, returned and asked.

Furina never carried Mora with her when she went out—Clorinde always handled it for her.

The reason was simple: What kind of god carries their own money around?

Of course, Furina didn't freeload. She always paid, but the transactions were handled by Clorinde, who would later be reimbursed once the expenses accumulated.

"Aside from the equipment device… hmm…"

Furina thought for a moment before declaring, "Let's start with a million!"

"As expected of Lady Furina." Lu Heng's smile widened.

He loved big spenders who didn't even blink before throwing money around.

Clorinde handed over 1,010,000 Mora on the spot.

With Clorinde's earlier experience as a reference, Furina first bound the equipment device.

Upon learning that the bound equipment device couldn't be damaged or lost, Furina's expression remained calm, but inwardly, she felt a deep sense of security.

Next.

The little figure in Furina's heart was already rubbing its hands in anticipation.

Please, let my luck be good this time.

Appear before me, mighty power!

Furina didn't even blink after pressing the ten-draw button, her eyes fixed intently on the screen.

But alas, no purple light appeared.

Ten cards materialized on the counter.

Seven were the lowest-tier gray, and three were white.

"How exactly are the rarities divided?" Furina looked up at Lu Heng.

Lu Heng replied, "Gray, white, blue, purple, gold, red, tricolor, pentacolor, and nonacolor—nine tiers in total, corresponding to one through nine."

"So this Standard Card Pool can go up to five-star gold… but the odds?"

Furina glanced at Lu Heng, then at Clorinde.

For a moment, she wasn't sure whether Lu Heng was rigging the system or if Clorinde had just gotten insanely lucky.

"Perhaps Lady Furina's luck isn't the best today?" Lu Heng raised an eyebrow.

"Is that so?"

Furina didn't say more and pressed the ten-draw button again.

A flash of blue light passed by.

Blue cards didn't require Lu Heng's appraisal. Furina just skimmed the description and shook her head.

It was just a skill card with a mediocre effect. For an ordinary person, it might instantly turn them into a martial arts master, but for her? Completely useless!

At the very least, give me a purple!

Outwardly, Furina remained composed, as if the mighty Hydro Archon was utterly unfazed by such trivial matters. But inwardly, the little figure in her heart had already clasped its hands together in prayer.

Again and again.

The crowd watched in silence, and more and more people gathered upon hearing that Furina was here.

Lu Heng's smile grew even brighter.

As everyone knew, Furina was Fontaine's biggest celebrity—she was the best advertisement possible!

With her reputation backing the shop, would Mora ever be a concern?

Half a minute passed in the blink of an eye.

For Furina, anything below purple wasn't even worth considering.

If no purple light appeared, she'd just press the ten-draw button again without hesitation.

But now, the one million Mora was gone.

To be honest, one million Mora was nothing to Furina. But spending it all in the blink of an eye without even a hint of payoff? That wasn't right!

Mora shouldn't be wasted like this!

"After a hundred draws, these accumulated cards… well, Lady Furina, you might want to consider dismantling the useless ones to upgrade your equipment device first," Lu Heng reminded her.

"My people, if you wish to obtain supernatural powers, you'd better think carefully."

Furina turned and warned the crowd.

Losing one million Mora in an instant was something ordinary folks couldn't afford!

Her face remained calm, as if she couldn't care less.

But inside, she was already kneeling on the ground, wailing.

This is unbearable!

Why did Clorinde get a purple in ten draws while I got nothing in a hundred?!

The pain… it's too painful!

Lu Heng watched as Furina mechanically dismantled her cards. She looked composed, but to him, it felt like she had already "left the building" mentally.

Wait, really?

Logically speaking, one million Mora shouldn't be a big deal for Furina.

Too fragile.

Lu Heng shook his head inwardly.

Back in the day, he had also suffered through multiple hard pity pulls—cough—and coincidentally, it was Furina who had drained his savings for her C2.

Is this karma coming back around?

Lu Heng stroked his chin, lost in thought.

"Huh?"

Furina suddenly let out a soft exclamation, pointing at the ATM-like machine's interface. "Can my equipment device be upgraded now?"

Lu Heng snapped out of his thoughts and glanced over. "Ah, yes. Congratulations, Lady Furina. You are the first customer in this shop to upgrade your beginner equipment device to a Tier 1 · Iron Equipment Device."

"What's the use?"

Furina secretly scoffed. Lu Heng's words just rubbed salt in her wounds.

She tapped the glowing upgrade button on the machine.

Instantly, the equipment device—which she had chosen to hide earlier because it didn't match her aesthetic—reappeared.

The aluminum device visibly transformed into one made of black iron before disappearing again.

"Wait…"

Furina suddenly felt something strange happening to her body.

Before she could ask, Lu Heng explained, "A Tier 1 equipment device slightly enhances the user's physical attributes."

Furina could clearly feel her body changing. The most noticeable difference was that her strength seemed to have increased somewhat.

Her expression shifted slightly.

"This enhancement is calculated proportionally. Whether you're a Hilichurl, a Slime… or even an Archon, the boost is scaled accordingly. So, as a god, Lady Furina naturally has an inherent advantage in this regard," Lu Heng said with a smile.

Furina immediately replied, "Not bad, not bad! Even my divine physique has received a minor, negligible improvement. Trivial as it may be, it's still good!"

This hurts.

The boost is actually huge, but I have to pretend it's insignificant.

But it seemed no one noticed Furina's inner turmoil.

"You just opened today, right?"

Furina looked at Lu Heng.

"Yes," Lu Heng nodded slightly.

"Good. Mysterious merchant, may you continue to provide my people with the power to protect themselves." Furina nodded. "Clorinde, another million Mora—consider it a gift to celebrate the shop's grand opening."

"Then I thank Lady Furina. I also wish you the best of luck in drawing the cards you desire—though I'm sure these are just trivial toys to you."

Though Furina's desperate desire to keep drawing while pretending not to care was almost comical to Lu Heng, she was far too wealthy. Might as well humor her.

"Mhm~ Mhm!"

This shop owner knows just what to say!

Furina gave a mental thumbs-up.

After Clorinde made the payment, Furina's gaze returned to the gacha screen.

Luck, I beg of you… just this once, give me a good pull!!
