Chapter 13 - Chapter 13

The mantis blades in reality were even more insane than the ones Lin Yu had used in games!

Not only were they more powerful and brutal at dismemberment, but the jump slash had become a true leap attack!

According to the previous specs, even without upgrades, the jump height was ten meters!

Most importantly, the real-world mantis blades allowed for brief wall-running.

It wasn't as extreme as Spider-Man, but it was more than enough!

Just like now—Lin Yu sprinted up the wall and, before anyone could react, plunged into the crowd.

He had already mastered the mantis blade combos by heart.

Slashing through enemies like cutting through vegetables, he quickly rejoined Jack.

Outside, the roar of engines echoed—they were moving the stolen goods and escaping.

The ones left inside had been completely abandoned.

Jack burst out of the room too, and with Lin Yu flanking from the other side, they swiftly cleared the staircase of Whirlpool Gang members.

The sheer power of the naked mantis blades was terrifying; before the enemies even realized what was happening, they had already fallen.

Of course, it also helped that their cybernetics were shoddy and poorly implanted.

"V, fuck! You almost chopped me!"

Jack instinctively recoiled as Lin Yu's mantis blades slashed past, stumbling backward and landing squarely on his ass.

From the victim's perspective, he now fully appreciated just how terrifying the mantis blades were!

"Quit whining. Move! Same plan—you drive!"

Lin Yu yanked Jack up and barked out the orders as they sprinted toward the exit.

Their car was still parked outside!

No one remained to snipe at them—those who hadn't fled had already been slaughtered.

The white youth watched cars pour out from the warehouse, ducking his head slightly and dialing his phone again.

Dexter DeShawn had been keeping a close eye on the situation!

Partly to gauge whether the so-called "V" that Vidocq recommended had any real skills, and partly to adjust the job's price based on how messy things got.

After all, Dexter never lost money.

"Dexter, the Whirlpool Gang's people are coming out. Gunfire inside too. Looks like those two idiots are probably dead. Should I follow up?"

The white youth quickly reported.

"Keep following. Don't engage, and don't get spotted. Find out where they end up..."

Dexter sighed as he spoke.

There was no real sympathy in that sigh—just regret that he hadn't found himself a good gunman yet.

"No... they're still alive! They're giving chase!"

The scout suddenly spotted another car bursting out of the warehouse, one without any gang markings—clearly not Whirlpool Gang.

He immediately interrupted his own report.

"Then why the fuck aren't you following them already?!"

Dexter cursed furiously and hung up.

Yet deep down, he couldn't help but feel a strange sense of relief.

Apparently, on some subconscious level, he really did hope V could survive—and that he truly had the skills Vidocq had spoken of.

After all, having a reliable, consistently profitable gun was much better than relying on one-off jobs.

"Can you keep up?"

Lin Yu asked, worried as he watched the Whirlpool Gang's vehicle getting farther ahead.

Right now, he wasn't afraid of a direct fight, but if the enemy fled, he didn't yet have any means of giving chase.

Hopefully someday he'd score one through the system.

"No problem! I'm an expert driver. Buckle up, V!"

Jack grinned as he floored the accelerator and quickly made a call.

"T-Bug, urgent favor! I need you to lock onto my position and track the vehicle ahead. We can't afford to lose this one!"

After giving the vehicle's license plate and a description, he hung up.

"T-Bug's a female netrunner, pretty badass too. She's a friend of mine. Didn't expect this job to turn urgent, or I would've introduced you two properly."

Jack explained quickly.

"Catch up first. Talk later."

Lin Yu said calmly.

He already knew who T-Bug was, but exactly what method she used to track a vehicle with so little information, he had no idea.

Not that asking Jack would help—Jack was good at fighting, but when it came to high-tech stuff, he was probably no better than Lin Yu himself.

After these past few days, Lin Yu was starting to get a clearer picture of this world.

Night City was still the same Night City from the game, but there were things here that didn't exist in the game.

This was a far more cybernetic cyber-city.

Jack's driving wasn't exactly top-tier, but it was good enough to slowly catch up to the target vehicle.

"Get us close to the cargo truck—but don't ram it. Our car isn't modified for that!"

Lin Yu warned, leaning halfway out of the window with an assault rifle already in hand.

Since the Whirlpool Gang's cars were reinforced, the rifle wouldn't easily punch through their armor.

So Lin Yu aimed for the tires instead.

Thanks to his god-tier firearms mastery, even with Jack's shaky driving, it only took him at most two shots to hit a tire.

"Hang on tight, V!"

Jack yelled as he swerved sharply to dodge a car that had suddenly slammed on the brakes.

Lin Yu seized the moment when the vehicles shifted positions—and with a single shot, nailed the enemy driver.

A clean headshot!

"Damn, V! I didn't know your shooting was that good!"

Jack whistled in amazement as he floored the gas pedal once more.
