Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: Phil Coulson

A week after returning from the dungeon, Su Zhan's devoured abilities gradually returned as his body adjusted. For now, only his precognition was particularly useful.

One day, Su Zhan suddenly saw a vision of the future: he and Skye were sitting in the car when a man in a suit—smiling—opened the door. It was Phil Coulson! He seemed to be inviting them to join S.H.I.E.L.D., extending his hand. The vision was only a fragment, but Su Zhan guessed the invitation would come soon—much earlier than in the original timeline, perhaps two or three months ahead.

"What are you thinking about?" Skye asked softly, seeing Su Zhan lost in thought.

Su Zhan shook his head. "Nothing, just a feeling that someone's about to come see us."

"Premonition? Do you have that kind of ability?" Skye asked curiously.

"Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't," Su Zhan replied. Since these abilities weren't from this world, no one could guess what he'd had before—so he wasn't worried.

"Did you have a premonition that we'd be together?" Skye asked, suddenly curious.

Su Zhan shook his head. "No, but I think it was destiny—so there was no need for a premonition. Even if I didn't foresee being with you, I have a feeling that in the future... we'll always be together."

"I don't know if that's true, but... I'm very happy," Skye said with a smile.

Someone knocked gently on the car door. Skye looked at Su Zhan in surprise. Su Zhan shrugged. "It seems my premonition came true this time."

He opened the car door.

Sure enough, it was Phil Coulson.

"Su Zhan, Skye, hello. Let me introduce myself: I'm Phil Coulson, an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.," Coulson said with a smile.

"What's the matter?" Su Zhan asked.

"Why don't we talk somewhere else?" Coulson suggested, still smiling.

Su Zhan and Skye exchanged glances. Su Zhan nodded in agreement.

He thought Coulson would take them to a nearby coffee shop, but instead, they were brought directly onto a plane—the same mobile base from the TV series "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." Su Zhan even saw Coulson's antique car. Of course, it only looked antique; it was actually equipped with advanced features, including the ability to fly! On board, Su Zhan also met the two scientist agents, Leo Fitz and Jemma Simmons. He noticed that Jemma was even more beautiful than in the show.

"Please, have a seat."

After arriving at the bar on the plane and sitting down, Coulson got straight to the point. "I'm building my own team. This plane is the base. It's convenient, fast, and mobile—there aren't many bases like this."

"It's impressive," Su Zhan nodded. "But I'd like to know more about why you brought us here. You didn't just want to show us around, did you?"

"Of course not. Actually, I came mainly to find her." Coulson looked at Skye. "You're a master hacker and a member of the Rising Tide Organization. That group has repeatedly broken into our systems, stolen information, and released it to the public. Most of that information is something ordinary people shouldn't know—or can't accept yet. Not long ago, more news about ability users was leaked, so… Miss Skye, I hope you can help me."

"Help you? Why? What right do you have to hide this? There are so many superpowers and superheroes in this world. Wouldn't the public already know?" Skye challenged.

Coulson nodded. "Yes, especially after the Battle of New York, people know about superheroes. But this is different. The existence of a small number of superheroes makes people feel safe—they know someone will help in a crisis. But if there are too many, it's not reassuring—it becomes a worry."

"Like mutants?"

"Not exactly, but it's similar. The real problem is if the public learns that someone is actively researching ways to create superpowers. That would cause panic. Recently, we've found many cases where people gains powers by being injected with some kind of serum. But it's unstable and often leads to self-destruction. In short, it's like the Extremis virus… so it's likely someone got samples of the Extremis virus to create a new serum."

"Just say what you mean. It wasn't me," Su Zhan said, noticing Coulson glance at him when the Extremis virus was mentioned. He curled his lip in dissatisfaction.

Coulson apologized, "Of course, I'm sure you didn't do this. But it's a serious threat to public safety. The culprit is very cunning, and we haven't been able to track them down. The Rising Tide Organization also announced this information, hacking our system and confusing the public, so…"

"So, you came to me? Sorry, I have the skills, but I didn't do this!" Skye shook her head.

"But maybe you can help us find this mysterious organization," Coulson said seriously.

"Maybe, but why should I help you?"

"Because it's a good way to clear yourself of suspicion. Given your status in the Rising Tide Organization, I have the right to arrest you."

"You can try," Su Zhan said, taking out his lighter with a smile.

"We're at an altitude of 6,000 meters. I don't know if you can fly, but I'm willing to take that gamble," Coulson replied calmly.

Su Zhan looked at him with a half-smile. Although Coulson's tone was calm, it was clear he was nervous. "Are you threatening me?"

"No, I prefer to call it sincerity. I could arrest you, but I don't want to. I just hope you'll help me—and help those who died because of the defective virus," Coulson said seriously.

"Okay, I'm willing to help," Skye said suddenly.

"Skye, if you don't want to, believe me, no one can force you," Su Zhan said gently.

Skye nodded. "I know, but he's right. Many people have died because of this. There may be more in the future. I don't know if these people volunteered or were forced, but I think we—we can help them."

"Well, I guess if I ever get the chance, I'll have to consider blowing up this place," Su Zhan joked, glancing at the nervous Coulson with a smile. "Don't be so tense, I'm just kidding."

"That's not funny," Coulson replied with a bitter smile.
