Chapter 9 - For My Son

Jessica's mind raised as she heard what Derick said. "Is there any way we can do this without transferring it to my stepmother?" Jessica protested with disagreement.

"Why are you acting as if I'm robbing you? I'm just saving your company from closing down. I am your stepmother, for heaven's sake. Who can wish you good more than me? Don't you trust me?" Abigail said, her face filled with concern and innocence, but deep inside her thoughts, she was sneering hard, waiting for the bait to be caught on the trap.

"You know what to do, miss Jessica. This is the only way. If there was another way, I would have loved to help. Trust me, we are doing this for your own good," Derick said, staring at Jessica with a serious facial expression.

Jessica remained silent, still in a dumbfounded state, truly trying to grasp what was happening. The only thing she could control was now being taken away from her. The pain kept surging into her as she thought deeply. Her eyes widened. Before she knew it, tears was already falling from her eyes.

"Jessica, are you ready? Please, anytime you are ready, let me know so you can sign the documents," Derick added, acting as if he didn't see the tears that was fallen from Jessica's eyes.

Abigail walked close to Jessica then crouched. "Jessica, we are all into this together. Once we get out of this situation, I promise to return your company back to you. I can't control everything myself. You, of all people, should know that," Abigail tried to convince Jessica, but Jessica remained silent.

Noticing Jessica not saying a word, Derick, hot with fury, spoke out again. "Jessica, you know very well that if this document isn't signed today, you will have no access to this company again, and I will be forced to accept the closure of your company without a second thought. If you know what's good, you better cooperate or forever remain silent," Derick said slightly yelling then he gasped.

Jessica raised the paper upwards, putting it on her leg. While holding the pen, her hands trembled as she gradually moved it toward the part where it required her to sign.

Abigail's eyes and Derick's stared at Jessica. Their hearts were filled with smirks as they watched Jessica sign the documents.

Jessica signed the documents and handed them back to Derick as she was done signing.

"Okay, that's good," Derick replied, collecting the document from Jessica's hands. "Now Abigail, it's your turn to sign here," Derick said, using the pen he had collected from Jessica, pointing the pen to the exact place where Abigail was to sign as well.

"Okay," Abigail replied, her hands placed on the paper as she signed the documents. "Okay, done," she added after signing.

"So that's it. My work here is done," Derick gasp, standing up. He shifted his gaze toward Jessica, then arranged his tie. "Jessica, don't worry. Everything will be fine. We are doing this for your own good."

"Thank you, sir. Oh God, if it wasn't for you, what could we have done? Imagine if you didn't come to let us know and also come with a solution, we would have just received an information that the steel manufacturing company is locked. Oh God, thank you, Mr. Derick. We really appreciate," Abigail said, her face filled with excitement, shaking Derick.

"You will hear from me shortly," Derick responded before walking out of the door.

Abigail walked closer to Jessica, then with a soft smile on her lips, she said, "We are done here, okay? You can return back to the kitchen now."
