On a regular school day, Kaelion was woken by loud noises outside. Groggy, he rubbed his eyes and peered through the window—only to see chaos erupting in the town. An attack was underway.
Still half-asleep, Kaelion wasn't too worried. The heroes would handle it. They always did.
Kaelion: "Oh well, everything's gonna be fine... let's just hope nothing hits my house."
Just then, a loud explosion rattled the ground.
Kaelion: "Hm... everything's alright." he mumbled, trying to convince himself.
Without thinking much of it, Kaelion got ready and headed to school, unaware of how wrong things would go.
BOOM!
The town exploded.
Kaelion woke up in a dimly lit medic's hut, his body aching all over. A healer hovered nearby, checking his wounds.
Kaelion's voice trembled as he spoke:
Kaelion: "What... happened? Where... where's my mom?"
The healer shook his head sadly.
Healer: "I'm sorry, kid... I don't know who your parents are."
Tears welled up in Kaelion's eyes.
Kaelion: "W-What? WHAT DO YOU MEAN?!"
The healer's voice was grim.
Healer: "Listen, I'm sorry, but we have to get out of here before the monsters return."
Kaelion shook his head fiercely.
Kaelion: "I can't leave... not with you!"
He tried to stand, but his legs gave out beneath him. He looked down—and horror washed over him. His legs were badly damaged.
Kaelion screamed in pain before blacking out again.
When he came to, he was lying in a cart rumbling down a dirt road, the healer at the reins.
Kaelion: "Why am I... here?"
Healer: "I'm helping you, kid."
Kaelion: "I DON'T NEED YOUR HELP!"
Healer: "Trust me, you do."
The cart came to a slow stop.
Healer: I'm dropping you here. Here—take these coins. Get yourself some food."
Kaelion took the coins hesitantly.
Kaelion: "Thanks... what's your name, anyway?"
The healer smiled faintly.
Healer: "Name's Rydhar. Rydhar Voltgrare."
Kaelion: "I'm Kaelion Vexmoon. Thank you... again, sir."
