Chapter 37 - Chapter 37: Actions of Various Parties

By the time Sorata and Shiina Mashiro arrived at school unhurriedly, the first period was almost over.

"Sorata, I'll go to the classroom myself," Shiina Mashiro suddenly said.

"Are you sure you won't accidentally walk into the wrong classroom halfway?" Sorata looked at her suspiciously.

"Sorata looks down on people," Shiina Mashiro's cute, slightly upturned nose wrinkled almost imperceptibly, looking very adorable.

"Alright, since you insist," Sorata shrugged, saying indifferently.

Then, Sorata looked at the girl who was trying hard. "Then, should I wait for you at the student cafeteria at noon, or should I go to your classroom to find you?"

Shiina Mashiro clenched her small hand into a fist, as if encouraging herself. "Sorata, wait for me in the classroom. I'll come find you today."

Sorata's eyes flickered slightly, and he suddenly said, "Did Misaki-senpai say something to you again?"

"Misaki-senpai didn't say anything to me. Relying on Sorata for everything would make you feel annoyed," Shiina Mashiro tilted her head, denying it.

"Alright, I knew it," Sorata smiled, waved at Shiina Mashiro, and then went upstairs.

"Kanda-kun, it's been more than half a month since school started, and you seem to have only not been late once, and you sleep in class every day, right?"

Under the gaze of various expressions, Sorata walked into the classroom as the bell for the end of the first period rang. Just as he sat down, Aoyama Nanami in front turned around and said coldly.

"Uh... although that's true, you know, I'm actually a good student," Sorata said shamelessly.

"Heh... let me tell the good student Kanda-kun that there will be an entrance exam tomorrow. Koharu has already said that if your deviation value in several subjects doesn't reach forty, you'll be in big trouble."

"That's what you get for ignoring Koharu every day, sleeping in class, and always being late," Aoyama Nanami looked at Sorata with schadenfreude.

"Is Koharu that serious?" Sorata was taken aback.

Koharu was their homeroom teacher, a beautiful thirty-year-old woman who hadn't gotten married yet. She managed Class 1 of the second year and was also the best friend of Chisaka Haruka (Chitanda Eru's friend in Hyouka), with a somewhat boisterous personality.

Just then, Koharu, the person they were talking about, walked in, preparing to start the class.

"However, it's not like there's no way," Aoyama Nanami said, her gaze slightly wandering, her peripheral vision glancing at the notebook on her desk.

The meaning was self-evident: she wanted Sorata to say something nice. Maybe if he flattered her, she would lend him her notes. As a top student, Aoyama Nanami's grades were always in the top twenty of the grade. And this was her performance while working several part-time jobs every day. Otherwise, if she had more time to study, the top five wouldn't be a problem.

"Oh dear, that's a bit troublesome," Sorata feigned a headache.

"Aoyama-san, you shouldn't have told me. Now I won't be able to sleep peacefully all day," Sorata complained to Aoyama Nanami.

"What do you think I, as an executive member of the student council, should answer to that statement?" Aoyama Nanami turned her face away and rolled her eyes at Sorata.

"Of course, you should see how pitiful I am and generously lend me your notebook. Isn't that what a mature, stable, and beautiful student council executive should do?"

"Here you go..."

Suddenly, a flirtatious compliment popped out of Sorata's mouth, making the caught-off-guard Aoyama Nanami's cheeks flush red. She hurriedly threw the notebook at him, then covered her face and lay down on her desk, ignoring him.

Heh... you little thing, can't even handle you? Sorata shook his head and smiled.

But he hadn't expected that he would now have the relaxed mood to joke with a girl. Could it be because he spent every day with Mashiro and Misaki-senpai?

Or was his personality originally like this? Maybe he was just an ordinary good person.

As Sorata stroked his chin, pondering this question, the dark side of his soul, the endless blackness like an abyss, slightly receded.

Shaking his head, he threw this sudden thought out of his mind and picked up Aoyama Nanami's notebook, scanning it quickly.

Flipping through the pages rapidly, Sorata, in order not to appear too special, took two minutes to finish reading Aoyama's notes, then reached out and tapped her back.

Because Aoyama Nanami's ponytail was in the way, Sorata hadn't noticed it at first.

Eh, this is...

"Y-you... Kanda..." Aoyama Nanami, who had been lying on the desk in front, stood up abruptly, her face completely red, looking at Sorata with shock and anger.

Because he hadn't paid attention just now, his finger had accidentally touched the clasp of Aoyama Nanami's bra through her hair.

"This, would you believe me if I said it was a misunderstanding?" Sorata gave an awkward yet polite smile, holding up the notebook. "I actually wanted to ask some questions."

Sorata didn't say he was going to return the notebook. If this hadn't happened, even if he arrogantly said he had memorized the notes, Aoyama Nanami might have just thought he was joking and glared at him before moving on. But if he said now that he had finished reading and was going to return the notes to her, it would give Aoyama Nanami the impression that she had been deceived and that he was irresponsible.

"You two, especially Kanda-kun, it's one thing to sleep in class usually, but now you're disturbing other students. Do you think I, as your teacher, won't get angry?"

On the podium, Koharu held a piece of chalk, her cheeks puffed out, and looked at Sorata and Aoyama Nanami with dissatisfaction, tapping the desk.

"Koharu, you're so beautiful, how could you get angry? Getting angry makes you age faster," Sorata raised his head and looked at the beautiful teacher on the podium with a smile.

"Also, there's no way to avoid sleeping. Who made Koharu chan voice to be so pleasant? Listening to it makes my heart feel calm, and I can't help but want to sleep."

"Don't call your Sensei with Chan ." Being praised like this by Sorata, Koharu, whose personality was originally quite boisterous, was very happy, but she didn't laugh in order to maintain the dignity of a teacher.

Koharu pointed at Sorata and Aoyama Nanami, pretending to be serious. "You two have something to say, go stand outside so you don't disturb others."

"Yes, Koharu."

"You've ruined me! This is the first time in my life I've been made to stand in the hallway during class," Aoyama Nanami complained on the corridor.

However, despite saying it was a complaint, at this moment, a complex mix of excitement, agitation, and other emotions inexplicably arose in Aoyama Nanami's heart, making her wonder if she was a bit strange.

"I can only say I'm sorry about this. It was actually an accident," Sorata said, leaning against the wall and shrugging. "How about this? If you have time that day, I'll treat you to a meal as an apology."

Aoyama Nanami's heartbeat suddenly skipped a beat, and she felt inexplicably flustered, but she didn't show it on the surface. Instead, she asked with a casual tone, as if they were having a normal conversation.

"I suddenly realized, when did Kanda-kun become so good at talking to people? You made Koharu so happy earlier, and now you suddenly want to treat me to a meal. Is this a date?" After speaking, Aoyama Nanami's eyes were fixed on Sorata.

"Cough... why would you think that? It's not a date," Sorata blinked, looking innocently at the girl in front of him. He really hadn't thought of it that way.

However, seeing the girl's eyes suddenly dim, Sorata lowered his head slightly, brought his mouth close to her ear, and whispered, "Let me tell you a secret, actually it's..."

The words that followed were completely lost on the petrified Aoyama Nanami.

When Sorata leaned closer to her, an intensely masculine aura rushed towards her face. Looking at Sorata's face, which was now inches away, Aoyama Nanami's face gradually turned red, and her whole body felt hot.

"Volume five? Rush it out in ten days?"

On the rooftop of Toyogasaki Academy High School, Kasumigaoka Utaha, tall, wearing black stockings, her long hair draped over her shoulders, held a phone in one hand, her brow furrowed, her tone dissatisfied.

"My editor, Machida, didn't I say that I've only finished the outline for volume five, and many details haven't been finalized yet? Why do you suddenly need it in ten days?"

"This is an opportunity for you. Our Fujimi Shobo, after all, has only been established for a few years. Although it's developing well now, it has reached a bottleneck, and it's also limiting your potential."

Sonoko Machida's calm voice came from the other end of the phone. "This collaboration with Dengeki Bunko, leveraging their channels that span the entire prefecture and even Xia Country, might allow your popularity and work sales to reach a new level and achieve a breakthrough."

"But the quality of volume five rushed out like this definitely won't be perfect, and I'm currently..." Although Kasumigaoka Utaha was somewhat tempted, a complex emotion appeared on her beautiful and quiet face.

Bang bang!!

"Sagiri, Sagiri..." In a detached wooden house, Masamune Izumi rushed to the second floor after returning home, banging on the door excitedly.
