Chapter 4 - "First Steps into Power"

(Kai's POV - Training and First Awakening)

---

Kai's POV

The next morning, the Gremory Mansion's private courtyard was alive with the sounds of movement.

I stood there in the cold early light, facing off against Kiba Yuuto.

His blond hair fluttered in the soft breeze, his stance relaxed yet sharp, sword already gleaming at his side.

"This is just a light spar," Kiba said with a friendly smile.

"But don't hold back. We need to see what you're capable of."

Behind him, Rias, Akeno, and Koneko watched from the stone benches.

Their eyes were calm, but I could feel the curiosity — and the expectation — pressing down on me.

No pressure, I thought dryly.

I cracked my knuckles, feeling the strength humming under my skin.

It was unfamiliar.

Wild.

But it was mine.

"Alright," I said, rolling my shoulders. "Let's see what this new body can do."

---

The spar began.

Kiba moved first — fast, faster than any human could dream of.

A flash of silver blurred toward me, blade aimed cleanly at my shoulder.

I barely had time to react.

My instincts screamed.

I twisted aside, feeling the edge of his sword whisper against my clothes.

My body moved naturally, almost like it wanted to fight.

Strength surged through my muscles.

Grinning, I lashed out with a sweeping kick.

Kiba blocked with the flat of his blade, sliding back gracefully.

"You have good instincts," he said, nodding approvingly.

"But instincts alone won't be enough."

I rushed him again, fists flying, muscles burning with excitement.

We clashed — blows exchanged — movement so fast that the air itself seemed to ripple.

But as I moved, something inside me started to stir.

Something cold.

Something vast.

The next time I swung my fist, a thin trail of mist followed the motion.

Frost glittered briefly on the ground where my foot landed.

Kiba's eyes widened slightly.

"Kai—!" Rias shouted suddenly.

But it was too late.

BOOM.

Without warning, a burst of freezing air exploded outward from my body.

The courtyard frosted over instantly — grass crystallizing, the stone tiles cracking under the sudden drop in temperature.

The shockwave sent Kiba flying back, barely managing to land on his feet.

My breath misted in front of me, my hands glowing faintly with icy light.

The girls stared — wide-eyed — as the temperature dropped even further.

"What... the hell...?" I whispered, staring at my own hands.

Rias stood up slowly, awe — and maybe a hint of fear — shining in her beautiful blue eyes.

"That's your Sacred Gear," she said breathlessly. "It's starting to awaken."

My Sacred Gear...

The power that had been coiling inside me, half-asleep, was now beginning to rouse.

And it was hungry.

A rumble echoed in my chest — faint, but powerful.

Like a dragon breathing beneath my skin.

I gasped, clutching my arms as frost crackled along my veins.

It wasn't just cold —

It was domination.

Cold that could freeze even the will of my enemies.

---

Rias moved quickly, stepping between me and the others.

"Kai! Focus!" she ordered sharply.

"Take control of it — don't let it control you!"

I gritted my teeth.

Focus.

Focus.

I pulled the wild, raging energy inside me inward, forcing it into a single point in my core.

The freezing mist slowed, the wild wind died down.

Little by little...

Breath by breath...

I wrestled the dragon of ice into submission.

Finally, the courtyard fell silent again.

Only the soft crunch of frozen grass underfoot remained.

---

I slumped to my knees, panting heavily.

"Impressive," Kiba said with a small chuckle, wiping frost from his sword. "That was... definitely not normal."

Koneko tilted her head, munching on a chocolate bar. "He's like an ice bomb."

Akeno just smiled slyly, her violet eyes gleaming with excitement.

"I do love dangerous boys."

I groaned internally.

This was going to be harder than I thought.

---

Rias approached me, kneeling down so we were eye-to-eye.

"You have incredible potential, Kai," she said warmly. "But raw power without control is useless."

I nodded weakly.

"I'll learn," I promised. "I'll master it."

She smiled — a smile that made her seem both angelic and devilish at once.

"I believe you will," she said.

"And when you do... you'll become something truly terrifying."

A shiver ran down my spine.

Not from the cold.

But from the future I could almost taste.

---

Today, I had taken my first real step.

The Frost King inside me was no longer sleeping.

And the world would feel his footsteps soon enough.
