Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Someone Wants to Set Her Up

Before she got into the car, she paused with her hand on the door, thought for a moment, and then turned to Zhuo Hang. Her tone was deliberate, as she spoke louder than usual so everyone could hear.

"Zhuo Assistant, if Mr. Rong comes looking for me tomorrow, please tell him to come to the Su residence."

Her voice carried enough weight that even Su Yuyan, who had been standing there, narrowed his eyes sharply. He glanced at Zhuo Hang, who felt a bead of cold sweat form on his forehead.

What was going on here? The situation seemed to be getting stranger by the minute.

Shen Ming was taken to the Su residence, but it wasn't the old master she was supposed to meet.

Sitting across from her was a stern, capable woman—the one who held the most authority in the Su family at the moment. She was the old master's beloved daughter, and also his most trusted aide. Before Su Yuyan took over the family business, she had been the largest shareholder in the Su Group, second only to the old master.

As Su Yuyan's biological mother, Su Ninglian didn't share much resemblance with her son, but in terms of personality, they were quite alike. Having been in high positions for so long, Su Ninglian exuded an unspoken aura of power. Upon seeing Shen Ming, her expression remained neutral, and she instructed her assistant to speak.

"Miss Shen, we need to collect your information and run a DNA test to compare it with Mr. Su's. You can stay at the Su residence for now. Once your identity is confirmed, Mr. Su will take you to meet the old master."

Shen Ming knew she wouldn't be seeing the old master right away. From what she remembered, the old master's health had worsened, and at this stage in life, he was likely recalling unresolved matters—like her, the long-lost daughter.

After bringing her to the Su residence, Su Yuyan disappeared, likely retreating to his private apartment. He wasn't interested in getting involved with his unknown half-sister.

Su Ninglian didn't take her around to meet the other family members. The old residence was mainly occupied by the elderly master, and no one else stayed there.

"Go upstairs and rest. If you need anything, ask the butler."

It was a rare display of concern from Su Ninglian, who didn't usually show such sentiment.

Shen Ming was escorted upstairs by the butler. Downstairs, Su Ninglian watched her retreating figure, her brow furrowed.

Her assistant spoke up.

"Miss Feng came to the old residence today. Do you think word of this has leaked?"

Su Ninglian shook her head. "She must have heard that her brother came back today. Let's keep this quiet from her for now. That girl's mind is fragile. She tends to overthink. We'll tell her in a while."

"Understood."

Shen Ming didn't feel much difference in her new identity or living arrangements. But at this moment, she was dealing with another serious issue.

Her assistant, Lian, messaged her.

"At 8 PM tonight, the PR team for the company suddenly went AWOL. It's normal for employees to quit during a crisis, but an entire department leaving is unusual."

Things weren't adding up. Shen Ming had anticipated something big happening, but she didn't expect it to be this.

Her perfume company had always followed a "light luxury" approach, but now, out of the blue, they were being accused of a major product defect. A key ingredient had been dangerously overused, posing significant health risks.

On top of that, news outlets had released professional inspection reports along with videos and images from victims showing severe skin damage caused by using the products. Public opinion was one-sided, with many demanding that regulatory authorities step in for an investigation.

After reading these messages, Shen Ming set down her tablet.

Someone was out to ruin her small company, and it was no coincidence. Her company was already on the brink of collapse—who would waste this much effort unless they had a personal stake in it?

Lian messaged again: "Should I contact the PR leader from Huami's team and ask for help?"

"No need," Shen Ming replied, "They can't help. Let it sit for the night…"

Beep.

An incoming call.

It was Cheng Anyi.
