Chapter 1 - The Store That Shouldn't Exist

Li Kai had never been one to believe in fate. He was just another cog in the wheel, an ordinary office worker with a nine-to-five job and a predictable, uneventful life. His world revolved around deadlines, meetings, and the occasional after-work drink with colleagues he barely knew. There was nothing extraordinary about him. Nothing special. Or so he thought.

That was, until the letter arrived.

It came on an otherwise typical Wednesday afternoon, tucked between a pile of bills and a notice from his landlord reminding him of his overdue rent. Li Kai was sorting through the mail when his eyes caught sight of a peculiar envelope. The paper was old, almost yellowed with age, and the handwriting on the front was elegant, swirling in ornate cursive. There was no return address, just his name, written with an uncanny precision that made his fingers tremble slightly as he picked it up.

He tore it open, his curiosity piqued. Inside was a single sheet of parchment, its edges finely embossed with a crest he didn't recognize. The message read:

"Li Kai,

You are hereby the sole inheritor of the Store of Infinite Possibilities, located at 88 Moonlight Alley. This inheritance is granted to you in the event of the passing of your distant relative, Xian Wei, the last Keeper of the Infinite Store. As his heir, you are entrusted with the management of this store, its vast treasures, and the mysterious System that governs it.

Please arrive at the address within three days to claim your inheritance. Failure to do so will result in the voiding of the will and the loss of your inheritance.

Sincerely,

The Executors of the Xian Family Estate."

Li Kai stared at the letter for a long moment, unsure whether to laugh or scoff. The Xian Family? The "Store of Infinite Possibilities"? It all sounded like the plot of a bad fantasy novel. He was no stranger to bizarre inheritances in fiction—books, TV shows, and movies loved to play with the trope. But this? This was absurd.

Still, a strange sense of curiosity gnawed at him. Who was this mysterious relative? And why had he inherited a store he'd never even heard of?

Despite his better judgment, Li Kai found himself on the next train to the address on the letter. Moonlight Alley. A hidden alleyway deep in the heart of the city. It sounded like the kind of place you'd find in stories about secret societies or magical realms.

The journey was uneventful, and the alley was much like any other—narrow, dimly lit, and tucked away from the main roads. He almost missed it, but then he saw it: an old wooden door that seemed out of place among the surrounding buildings. The faint glow from a cracked lantern hung by the door barely illuminated a faded sign that read: The Infinite Store.

Li Kai stood there, frozen for a moment. His breath caught in his throat. This was it. The place mentioned in the letter.

With a mix of hesitation and disbelief, he pushed open the door and stepped inside.

The store was unlike any shop he had ever seen. It was dimly lit, but not from the outside streetlight—there was an ethereal glow coming from the corners of the room, where the shelves stacked with strange, mysterious items seemed to shimmer and pulse. The air was thick with an odd scent, like incense mixed with the faintest trace of something metallic.

The shelves were lined with a bizarre assortment of goods—some familiar, like antique furniture and old books, others foreign, like potions swirling with colors that didn't exist in his world. Odd trinkets filled the corners, and even a faint hum of magic seemed to linger in the air, crackling with an energy Li Kai could almost feel in his bones.

But it wasn't the items that drew his attention. It was the voice.

"Welcome to the Infinite Store," it said, smooth and calm, though it didn't seem to come from any particular direction. "Your journey begins now."

Li Kai spun around, searching for the source of the voice. But there was no one. Just him. Alone in the strange, forgotten store.

"Who's there?" he asked, his voice sounding uncertain in the vast emptiness.

"Do not be alarmed. I am the System that governs this store," the voice continued, as if answering his unspoken question. "I will guide you in your new role as Keeper of the Infinite Store."

Li Kai's head spun. "System? Keeper? What is going on here?"

"There is much for you to learn," the voice replied, unphased by his confusion. "But first, allow me to introduce you to the Store Management Interface."

Suddenly, a glowing holographic screen appeared in front of him, suspended in midair. Li Kai stumbled backward, instinctively reaching out to touch it, his fingers brushing against the smooth, cool surface. The screen flickered to life, displaying a vast array of options and menus.

Store Management

Inventory: View items in stock.

Item Creation: Create new items.

Customer Orders: Track and fulfill customer requests.

Store Upgrades: Enhance the store's capabilities.

At the bottom of the screen, there was a line that read: Ascension Points: 0

"What is all this?" Li Kai muttered, staring at the bewildering interface. His heart was racing. Was he dreaming? Or had he somehow been transported into another world?

"This is the System, which governs all aspects of the Infinite Store. It will assist you in managing the store's operations and help you grow in power," the voice explained. "Your first task, as Keeper, is to familiarize yourself with the interface and begin fulfilling your customers' needs. The world of infinite possibilities awaits you."

Li Kai swallowed hard, his mind struggling to process the information. He glanced around at the strange, glowing shelves and the bizarre items lining them. Despite the overwhelming confusion, one thing was clear: His life had just taken an unexpected, impossible turn.

"Let's begin," the voice urged, as the store seemed to pulse with energy.

And just like that, Li Kai's ordinary life vanished into the realm of the unknown.
