Chapter 4 - Chapter 4 – "The Offer"

The location was far

Farther than she had imagined.

They sent her a GPS coordinate.

No name. No sender. Just a text message.

And still… she went.

It was past midnight when she arrived.

The sky was heavy with clouds, and the fog was so thick her headlights barely cut through it.

Eventually, she stopped in front of a massive metal gate.

No sign. No guards.

But it opened on its own—

As if it had been waiting for her.

She walked through a long hallway, dimly lit.

Everything felt cold.

Silent.

As if the place wasn't meant for humans.

At the end, a square room.

One table.

A large screen mounted on the wall.

A man in a dark gray suit sat at the far end of the table.

His face unreadable, his eyes studying her carefully.

"You're here for the experiment."

It wasn't a question.

She nodded.

He pressed a button on a small panel.

A long document appeared on the screen behind him.

"Before we begin, you must read and accept the contract. There's no turning back after you sign."

His voice was calm—

Almost mechanical.

But his eyes… they weren't.

She stepped closer and began to read.

The risks were clear:

Your consciousness will be transferred into a self-contained digital world, not governed by scripted narratives or fixed programming.

The body receiving your consciousness cannot be chosen. It may be human… or not.

In case of transfer failure, the first unconscious body detected nearby will be used automatically.

You may not gain full control of the new body immediately.

Loss of consciousness may become permanent.

If your original body is destroyed during the process, the outcome is uncertain.

The experiment is still in an unstable phase.

Additional unforeseen errors may occur.

And finally, the last line:

"Do you accept to participate?"

She looked at the man.

Then at the screen.

Then raised her hand—

And signed.

A soft click echoed from the device…

As if something had already begun.

The man closed his laptop and said calmly:

"Lie down. We begin in a few moments."

---

It was the first time in years she had felt anything close to excitement.

But what she didn't know…

Getting in was the easy part.

Getting out—

Was something else entirely.
