Jan Petrovitch woke up with a start and found himself lying in the pool of his own blood.
He was a special investigative operator in the imperial secret police of American empire.
His office has received word that a terrorist who was responsible for making gravitational bombs that decimated that decimated American troops.
But he was reckless when he tried making the arrest that he triggered a bomb which detonated right beside him flinging across the room.
When he woke up, his head was throbbing as there was a gaping wound in his stomach where a metal rod was poking out.
He tried calling for help but there was no strength in him to shout so he lay there counting down the minutes to the moment where he was going to close his eyes forever.
The next time he opened his eyes , he was in a hospital bed being pumped full of painkillers.
He looked up to see a doctor discussing in hushed in hushed tones with a mid aged couple. The wifes face was swollen perhaps from hours of crying and the husband tried his best to console her.
Soon the doctor came over to his bedside with the couple.
" John , your parents have come to see you ." The doctor said.
Apparently the doctor thought that his name was John so he decided to correct him.
" Sorry my name is Yan Petrovitch, not John and those at not my parents." Jan replied, which made the woman burst into tears. She turned to the doctor, holding his coat
" What happened to my boy?" The woman screamed at the doctor.
To Jan , this woman really knew him or this was a ploy to end him . After all a top secret mission failed and he apparently was the only survivor. So he quickly removed the needles and the equipment that were connected to him and made a run for it. Two steps in , he fell down dizzy with overwhelming pain and then slipped into unconsciousness.
After a while, Jan woke up to find the still at his bedside. Before he could attempt escape, the doctor calmed him down and explained the situation to him .
According to the doctor, his name was John Crawford, he was seventeen and was from New Jersey in the United States of America.
This was way different from what he expected, he had expected to be taken to a black site to be tortured and executed for his failure but now he learned that there was no American empire but a democratic united States where he has possessed the body of a seventeen year old.
It was as if he had gotten a second chance and he was not going to squander it. He promised himself not to take any opportunity forgranted.
Within a few days, he was transported home by his new parents to recover under the guise of him having amnesia.
Johns father , was a mechanic for some cargo companies while his mother was a teacher so they were living the middle class suburban lifestyle with the white picket fences and all. But there was one problem, the body Jan found himself in was a chubby one, almost on the verge of becoming really fat ,So something has to be done about it.
He then adopted a hardcore training regimen, for three hours in the morning, he would run , do pullups, pushups and sit-ups in intervals. He then studied up on the history and customs of this world especially the United States where he found himself. In the evening, he would use what little money he had to go to a gym to exercise further.
The first week was brutal on him , but the kind of life Jan wanted to live required that he was fit.
In the house , as part of his daily regimen and also from the routine from his past life , he made his bed , arranged and cleaned up the whole house and did the dishes which he later found out that John was never the type that did house chores, he just lazed around watching movies or playing games . Which meant that his new routine was an added improvement.
Throughout the entire three months of summer Jan stuck to the routine and was now reaping the benefits but being an endomorph, his gains were not really visible. But he noticed that the body was a little more stronger and faster than before.
Finally it was time to get back to school, something that Jan dreaded seeing it as a waste of time but seeing that it is a way for him to know more about the behavioral patterns of the individuals in this world in comparison with his own world and to finally be exposed to a society that didn't revolve around the gym and his house.
Back in imperial United States, every one had rights to education and medical support which were all under the purview of the imperial family which in turn subjected everyone to scrutiny from the security forces. The human rights he read about in books were non existent in the empire which was one of the main reasons he signed up for the army and latter got assigned to the secret police which surprisingly he found himself doing really well enough to get himself promoted to the rank of special investigative operator. He got himself involved in surveillance missions, state kidnapping and assassinations of targets who spoke out against the imperial family or had views that were slightly challenging to the doctrine of the empire.
Therefore Jan as wore an oath to himself to live his life to the fullest. But he knew that in order for one to live a comfortable life , the person must have money . Therefore in order for Yan to enjoy his new life and not live a life of a pauper , he needed to find a way to make money and fast because he felt uncomfortable taking the place of John in his parents life.
