Chapter 42 - Chapter 23: Heal the Person First_3

The green-clad Samurai finally remembered the task at hand. Seeing that Hara was tall, dignified in appearance, well-dressed, and possessed a noble air, it was absolutely impossible for him to be a foolish villager. He immediately sheathed his sword and dismounted, revealing a little girl he was protecting, and exclaimed excitedly, "You must be the foreign warrior who can heal people, right? Quick, help me see how Asami is doing!"

Asami?

Hara's gaze fell on the little girl, seeing she was only about four or five years old, with long black hair and dressed in a small-sleeved dark blue cotton garment patterned with snowflakes. She was wrapped in a large grey worn cloth and curled up, hands pressed tightly against her abdomen, eyes slightly closed, face sallow and yellow with occasional flashes of pain, white froth at the mouth not completely wiped clean.

Rescue was urgent, and Hara didn't bother with the green-clad Samurai who made a mess in the courtyard. He immediately went up to examine the little girl's condition, paying special attention to the froth at her mouth. If it was foam phlegm caused by pulmonary congestion or edema, this illness couldn't be treated; but luckily, it wasn't. It seemed more like secretions from digestive organs, rising after retching or jolting.

Hara hadn't wasted time reading books during this period, and already possessed basic diagnostic skills. He immediately asked the green-clad Samurai, "Has she vomited? When did she last vomit? What did she eat before vomiting?"

"She had a small rice ball and some Golden Flat Sugar, and vomited shortly after eating," replied the green-clad Samurai, immediately taking out a small glass bottle containing half-filled pale yellow candy resembling sea urchins with spikes, looking beautiful in the sunlight.

Originally dissatisfied, and glaring darkly at the back of the green-clad Samurai, not knowing what sinister plans occupied her mind, Aman was immediately attracted by the bottle, unable to suppress her respect and murmuring, "Is this really the Golden Flat Sugar priced as high as gold? There's half a bottle…"

Instinctively evaluating its value, felt this half bottle of candy could be worth around two wén, even without the bottle itself could fetch two or three guàn of Yongle Coins; she wanted to snatch it but refrained due to the Samurai's skill and background.

In Hara's view, those candies made of primitive raw sugar mixed with wheat flour were not rare, casually accepted and opened the bottle to smell and taste a candy, immediately discerning a faint moldy sour taste.

He directly spat the candy onto the ground, and asked, "How long have you kept it?"

The green-clad Samurai hesitated for a moment, looking at the candy uncertainly, "Is it spoiled already? Half a year ago, my Lord just rewarded me with it, I've eaten one before, didn't feel uncomfortable..."

Hara silently glanced at him; you're comparing the intestinal ability of a near-adult robust male with a four or five-year-old child? Why not compare with a wild boar?

Yet, he didn't explain further, returned the candy to the green-clad Samurai and indifferently said, "At present, it looks like acute gastroenteritis caused by spoiled candy… Hmm, it's a hot poison disorder due to external contamination. Would you like treatment here?"

The green-clad Samurai held the sword handle, candy in hand, stunned and did not understand, appearing not only linguistically deficient but culturally as well.

Hara patiently waited for a moment until he reacted, repeatedly saying, "Treat, I'll spare no expense for treatment! Please cure her!"

"I'll do my best!" Hara nodded, calling Yayoi over, who was observing from a distance worriedly, to help accommodate the patient and family. He went to check the pinyin version of "Barefoot Doctor's Manual," selecting a prescription—acute gastroenteritis was relatively common in rural areas and easy to treat. Hara had memorized prescriptions but, being his first medical practice, he wanted to review to avoid wrong medication or dosage that could lead to the first patient's death.

This was, after all, the first customer since opening his practice, better to not cause a fatality!

Aman followed him, casting a glance at the green-clad Samurai from afar, softly reminded him, "Are you confident? He seems to belong to Oda Danjo Chonosuke's house, likely one of Oda the Fool's retainers. That group's brains are somewhat tricky and hard to provoke, be cautious!"

If she hadn't perceived the opponent as a retainer of Oda the Fool, and Owari the province was Oda Family's domain, with Oda Nobunaga being a somewhat crazy person highly provocative, any harm caused would easily bring disaster to Hara, the money provider. She would have acted earlier and not just planned rumors—she wasn't naive but rather sharp, having seen much death, daring to act rashly and escape overnight, fearless.

The same applied now; although unfamiliar with Hara's medical skills, if he accidentally killed Asami, it might bring trouble. Hara treated her well and respectfully, so she didn't want him to suffer, prompting the reminder.

The green robe had a Family Crest, unique to Oda Nobunaga with Five Melon Patterns, Hara had noticed, slightly nodded, "I know, I'm confident in treating the illness, no need to worry."

Not only knowing the other party belonged to Oda Nobunaga, but guessing he was likely Maeda Toshie, unexpectedly encountered the future "Kaga Million Stone Daimyo," yet the Hibi Village was originally Hosokawa Family's land; meeting him here wasn't unfamiliar, though unexpected, it was logical.

Furthermore, having traveled to this era, interacting with these feudal warriors was inevitable; Hara was mentally prepared, though slightly earlier than anticipated, feeling assured regardless.

In short, heal the girl first!
