Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The Man Who Fought for Justice

Chapter 1: The Man Who Fought for Justice

A Fading Life

Pain. A burning sensation spread through Umesh Kumar's chest as he staggered, his breath turning shallow. The muffled sound of people screaming, footsteps running, and tires screeching in the distance felt distant—as if the world was already slipping away. He looked down at his shirt, the crisp white fabric now dyed in deep crimson. The gunman had done his job well. Three shots. Two to the chest, one to the abdomen. Fatal.

A weak chuckle escaped his lips as he slumped against the cold concrete wall of a dimly lit alley.

"So, this is how it ends?"

His mind drifted, not to his enemies or regrets, but to the old man who had raised him.

"Grandpa… I hope I made you proud."

As his vision blurred, memories flooded in—his childhood, struggles, triumphs, and the justice he had fought for.

A Childhood of Hardships

Umesh never knew his biological parents. He was just another orphan in a crowded shelter, living on scraps of food and the kindness of strangers. The world was harsh, but he refused to break.

Then, when he was six, everything changed.

Colonel Vijay Raj Singh, a retired war veteran with no family of his own, visited the orphanage one fateful day. The man was strict, his presence commanding respect, but his eyes softened when he saw Umesh.

"Boy, do you know what justice is?" he had asked.

Umesh, small and frail, had simply nodded. "Justice is making sure no one takes away what's rightfully someone else's."

The Colonel had smiled. A week later, Umesh left the orphanage with him, stepping into a home filled with discipline, books, and stories of war and valor.

Under his guidance, Umesh learned more than just the law—he learned righteousness, strategy, and discipline. The Colonel taught him self-defense, honed his mind like a blade, and instilled in him a sense of duty.

"Power and knowledge mean nothing if not used for justice, boy."

Those words became Umesh's guiding principle.

But fate was cruel. On his 18th birthday, the only father figure he had ever known passed away. Alone again, Umesh made a promise at his grave—he would dedicate his life to justice, no matter the cost.

The Struggles of a Young Lawyer

Law school was brutal. No money, no connections, only sheer determination. He studied by day, worked by night, often sleeping for only a few hours. The legal world was dominated by the rich and corrupt, but Umesh didn't care.

His first job at a small law firm barely paid enough to survive, but he took every case that came his way—especially for the poor and powerless.

Slowly, his reputation grew.

One of his first landmark cases was defending a slum dweller falsely accused of killing a businessman's son. The prosecution had bribes, fabricated evidence, and political backing. Umesh had truth and persistence.

His ruthless cross-examinations dismantled the prosecution's lies, and in the end, the judge had no choice but to declare his client innocent.

From that day, people started calling him "The People's Advocate."

Of course, with fame came danger. Corrupt politicians, corporate tycoons, and underworld dons—they all had one thing in common: they hated Umesh Kumar.

He received death threats, bribes, even false accusations aimed at destroying his career. But he never backed down.

"The law should be a shield for the weak, not a sword for the corrupt."

This belief made him both a hero and a target.

How the World Saw Him

To the common man, he was a beacon of hope, the one lawyer who didn't bow to money or power.

To criminals and the corrupt, he was a nightmare, a relentless force who exposed their crimes in court.

To his colleagues, he was a genius, feared in the courtroom for his ability to tear apart arguments.

To the media, he was a maverick, a man who defied the system yet played by the rules.

There were rumors—some called him a reincarnation of Dharma itself, while others said he was simply a fool who didn't understand how the world worked.

The Final Betrayal

Despite the threats, Umesh never expected an attack on his life.

That night, he had just won another case—exposing a powerful minister involved in human trafficking. He stepped out of the courtroom, exhausted yet satisfied.

Then, as he walked toward his car, gunshots echoed through the street.

Three bullets. Silent killers. The work of a professional.

His vision blurred, but he saw the assassin disappear into the night. The streets of the city, the same streets he had fought to clean, were now drenched in his blood.

"So, this is it."

He thought about the countless orphans he had helped, the innocent lives he had saved, the criminals he had put behind bars. Was it enough?

A strange sense of peace washed over him.

If this was his fate, he had no regrets.

As his body grew colder, his mind drifted to a strange thought—one that had always fascinated him.

"What if reincarnation was real?"

A smile crept onto his lips.

"What if I was reborn into a world where I could truly make a difference?"

With that final thought, darkness consumed him.
