Chapter 72 – Iconic Scene: Kunai Pierces Susanoo, Danzō's Bandage Secret Revealed!
"Renji, if you turn back now, we can still talk things over!"
Seeing that everyone had arrived, Sarutobi Hiruzen gained some confidence and steered the conversation toward portraying Renji as a rebel.
Although in truth, Sarutobi had no intention of negotiating. What he wanted was to seize this opportunity to completely wipe out the Uchiha clan.
But appearances still needed to be kept.
"Third Hokage, stop pretending. Everyone's already here—what's the point in acting anymore? Have you played the white lotus role for so long that you've forgotten your true nature?"
Renji spat with disdain. This man was disgusting. He had already set the trap and couldn't wait to erase the Uchiha.
And now he still wanted to keep up the act?
Sarutobi's expression darkened at Renji's words.
But Danzō, ever calm, stepped forward and said, "Renji, your Uchiha clan is rebelling. Now the village is taking action to suppress the traitors. No matter how you frame it, the village has done nothing wrong."
Clearly, he didn't want to argue with Renji any further. This was the perfect moment—every major clan was here, nearly all the village's shinobi were gathered, and he was worried Sarutobi might suddenly change his mind.
"Danzō, that's a baseless accusation."
Renji smiled faintly. The four elders of Konoha were momentarily stunned, not expecting him to say that. Was he backing out now?
Had he come this far only to retreat?
Was he begging for mercy?
A flicker of joy flashed in Sarutobi Hiruzen's eyes. If Renji were to beg, then this entire affair could be resolved with minimal cost.
But the Uchiha clan looked at Renji in confusion, worried he might have changed his mind.
Then, in the next second, everyone froze.
Renji's longsword pierced straight through Danzō's heart, and his cold voice echoed through the clan compound: "Lord Danzō, now I've confirmed it for you. How does it feel?"
So fast!
Sarutobi's pupils contracted. Even he hadn't reacted in time.
Danzō looked down in horror as blood poured from the wound in his chest, soaking the ground beneath him.
"Renji! You dared to attack a village elder!"
Koharu's voice turned shrill, shaken by the sight of Danzō being impaled.
Renji meant to kill.
The Uchiha, seeing this, erupted in excitement.
Years of buried humiliation now exploded like a volcano.
"Evil Uchiha brat!"
But Danzō's body suddenly vanished.
From a dark corner, the real Danzō stepped out, unharmed and expressionless.
He wasn't dead?
It wasn't a clone… then how?
"You all saw that, didn't you? Renji attacked a Konoha elder and is leading the Uchiha in rebellion. We have no choice now but to suppress this uprising!"
To him, the excuse was now solid. It was a pity he had to waste one Sharingan, but he'd collect them all today anyway.
"Danzō, allow me to show you what true Uchiha power looks like."
Renji's three-tomoe Sharingan spun rapidly, then under everyone's stunned gaze, his Eternal Mangekyō appeared.
"The legendary power of the Uchiha… it should belong to me!"
Danzō stared at the Mangekyō in Renji's eyes with greed.
That legendary Uchiha power—he believed the clan was unworthy of it. It should be his. With Mangekyō, he could protect Konoha better, and the path to becoming Hokage would be wide open.
"Shikaku, is that the Mangekyō Sharingan?"
Yamanaka Inoichi asked quietly. Today's situation was escalating fast.
"It should be. I didn't expect him to possess it… this is going to get very troublesome."
"So do we act?"
"Wait for the Hyūga."
Shikaku glanced at the Hyūga clan. The Ino-Shika-Chō alliance wouldn't be the first to act.
If they fought the Uchiha directly, most of their clan would be wiped out.
Everyone was waiting.
Waiting for who?
Of course—for the Hyūga to make the first move.
If the Hyūga acted, the other clans would follow.
But if the Hyūga didn't move, who would dare charge at the Uchiha?
That would be suicide.
Shikaku glanced toward Hyūga Hiashi and frowned. Why was he still so calm? It didn't look like he planned to act at all.
"The pattern is different from last time."
Hiashi was surprised. The pattern in Renji's Mangekyō was different from when they'd last met.
Not only that, the pressure emanating from Renji was clearly stronger than before.
"So that's why… he must've awakened the Mangekyō and gained this confidence."
"Doesn't really look like a regular Mangekyō."
From afar, White Zetsu and Black Zetsu murmured to each other.
They now understood why Renji had acted so boldly. But Black Zetsu felt something was off—the eye didn't quite feel like a normal Mangekyō. It felt… like an Eternal Mangekyō.
That kind of power—he'd only felt it from Madara.
But he shook his head. It couldn't be.
Renji had no siblings, no family left. How could he transplant the Eternal Mangekyō?
And it wasn't as simple as just transplanting eyes from a relative. You needed Indra's chakra as well. Otherwise, many Uchiha throughout history had awakened the Mangekyō—but why did so few gain the Eternal version?
If it were just about eye transplants, anyone could do it. Madara and Izuna could've just swapped eyes and everyone would be fine.
But no—it required Indra's chakra and a close relative's Mangekyō.
Of course, Renji didn't need any of that—he was a walking cheat.
"Mangekyō!! The clan head has the Mangekyō!!"
"It's the legendary Uchiha power!"
The Uchiha roared in jubilation. Renji had the Mangekyō—how could they not be thrilled?
This was the pride of the Uchiha—their legendary power.
"Root, go suppress the Uchiha. As for Renji—leave him to me."
Danzō stared greedily at Renji's eyes, and the armor that now cloaked him.
Susanoo!!
Through his stolen Uchiha documents, Danzō knew of the ultimate power sealed within the Mangekyō—Susanoo.
It was one of the reasons Madara had once fought the First Hokage to a standstill.
How could Danzō not covet such strength? If he could obtain it, wouldn't he too become a god of the shinobi world?
"Kakashi, should we move?"
Kurenai hesitated. Besides Root, the Anbu and other Jōnin hadn't been ordered by Sarutobi to act yet.
None of the other clans had joined in either. She wasn't sure if they should step in now.
"Of course! We can't let the Uchiha run wild!"
Might Guy gave a thumbs-up and was about to charge in.
But Kakashi stopped him. "Wait. Let's follow the Hokage's command first."
Kakashi's gaze drifted toward Renji, a complex expression in his eyes.
Obito… he hadn't expected things would turn out like this today.
To him, he truly didn't want to be involved in the operation against the Uchiha—not just because of his former best friend, but also because of that eye.
"Then let's wait and see."
Kurenai didn't really want to act right now either. She didn't like Danzō in the first place, and they weren't his subordinates—there was no need to take his orders.
"What the hell!! What is that guy doing?! Is he stabbing Susanoo with a kunai?!"
From a distance, even White Zetsu, not known for his intelligence, was stunned.
Seeing Danzō charge at Renji with a kunai in hand left him speechless.
"This guy is supposed to be one of Konoha's top advisors?"
Black Zetsu sneered. For a moment, he didn't know what to say.
With that level of intelligence, how did this guy even qualify to be an assistant to the Hokage?
Inside Susanoo, Renji nearly burst into laughter when he saw Danzō charging at him.
Clang.
The kunai struck Susanoo and instantly snapped in half.
[Hokage Renji]: [world-class painting.JPG]
[One Piece Renji]: [Damn? Savage!]
[Yōkai Renji]: [After all these years, Danzō's still Danzō, huh?]
[Resident Evil Renji]: [Kunai defeats heaven and Susanoo—I am Danzō, remember me!]
Danzō, in true Danzō fashion, remained the only man in the Naruto world to charge at Susanoo with a kunai.
"Elder Danzō, you're the only person to ever attack Susanoo with a kunai. Weren't you supposed to be well-versed in the Uchiha's powers? What, have you gone senile in your old age?"
Renji couldn't help but mock him. Danzō's face darkened at his words.
He had only intended to test the waters, yet before Renji even attacked, the kunai had broken on its own.
Before Danzō could react, Susanoo's massive arm swept forward and crushed him into a bloody smear.
Yet the next moment, Danzō appeared again.
This time, everyone noticed something—Danzō had some sort of secret technique.
"Danzō, you keep calling the Uchiha clan evil, but let me ask: how do you know the Uchiha's forbidden technique, Izanagi?! Your right arm is full of our clan's eyes, and you've been secretly experimenting with the First Hokage's cells, even collaborating with Orochimaru to construct that arm! You didn't just steal our power—you even stole the First Hokage's. And you still have the nerve to be Hokage's assistant?!"
Renji's voice thundered across the compound, and a heavy silence fell over the crowd.
Danzō's right arm!?
All eyes followed Renji's words to Danzō's concealed limb.
"Heh… so only the Uchiha are allowed to have forbidden techniques?"
Danzō's heart skipped. He remembered now—last time he met Renji, the man must've suspected something.
Now Renji had directly exposed him—down to his experiments with Orochimaru. A bad feeling rose within Danzō.
Still, he refused to admit anything. No one could be allowed to uncover the secrets of that arm.
"You're just afraid to show everyone that arm, aren't you? You've already used two of the eyes. With the one in your head, that leaves nine. And the First Hokage's transplant seals on your arm? Obvious. If you've got nothing to hide, show everyone your arm!"
Renji sneered. Danzō's act was pathetic to him.
In truth, all the Sharingan on Danzō's arm had been harvested before the Uchiha massacre.
He didn't get any after the massacre—Obito had taken them all.
At Renji's words, Danzō's face grew even more sour. He knew he absolutely couldn't let that arm be seen.
The moment people saw it, all the Sharingan would be exposed.
"That's right! You old dog! You stole our Uchiha kekkei genkai! Show them if you dare!"
Uchiha Setsuna roared. He had known for a while and had been holding back. Now that Renji had spoken, he no longer needed to.
The surrounding clans watched curiously. Even Hyūga Hiashi smirked.
"Don't you know what happened to Danzō's arm? That's the mark of a hero! It was scarred during the war! Are you really going to tear open a hero's old wound?"
Koharu tried to defend Danzō.
There was no way they didn't know about his experiments. That was impossible.
"Afraid, Danzō?"
"Why should I listen to you? You Uchiha are rebels—no one will believe your lies."
A cold smile flickered across Danzō's face. He had no intention of exposing his arm. The bandages would stay.
"That's fine. The Hyūga clan is here, right? A glance with the Byakugan will do."
Renji's words hit like a hammer. Danzō had no rebuttal.
Because yes—
The Hyūga could indeed see the abnormalities in his arm.
His eyes darted to Hiashi, who calmly said, "I can help. If Lord Danzō's arm truly has no Sharingan, then we of the Hyūga clan will immediately take action against the Uchiha."
Under normal circumstances, Sarutobi Hiruzen would be glad to hear Hiashi say that.
But if Hiashi actually looked now—everything would be exposed.
"Danzō, you colluded with Orochimaru. Those experimental subjects—weren't they all supplied by you?
Root is full of shinobi from clans with secret arts. Why? You wanted bloodlines, you wanted forbidden jutsu.
You've always been a coward—never able to surpass Sarutobi Hiruzen. At least he fought with his own strength. You claim to inherit the Second Hokage's will, yet you target the Uchiha while coveting our power?
Why did you plot the extermination of the Uchiha?
Because you wanted our Sharingan?
And you don't even have the courage to admit it. You won't admit to stealing our power, or the First's.
No wonder you're a rat in the gutter. Have you ever stood in the light?
At least during that retreat, Sarutobi Hiruzen showed courage. And you?
You've always been a coward. You've spent your life regretting not being brave enough—because if you had been, you might've been Hokage.
But the Second Hokage saw further than you ever could. You'll never match Sarutobi.
And even after stealing our Sharingan, you still can't use them as we do. You're not even on par with Kakashi. You're a failure in every respect.
You lost the Third to Sarutobi, the Fourth to Minato. During the Nine-Tails incident, you hoped Minato would die so you could take over. But Sarutobi returned and ruined your plan. Then you tried to have him assassinated.
In the end, you've lived your life a failure, Danzō. Take your Hokage fantasy and go to hell!"
Renji's words didn't just kill—they humiliated.
A rat in the gutter?
He had never accepted that. He lived through schemes, yes—but so what? As long as he became Hokage, as long as Konoha grew stronger, it would all be worth it.
But every word Renji said rang true.
His ambitions had all been laid bare.
Especially the fact that he couldn't match Sarutobi politically, nor Minato in strength, nor the Uchiha in wielding the Sharingan.
He didn't even dare admit to using their power.
Now surrounded by Konoha shinobi, Danzō's face was pale.
Even if he wiped out the Uchiha and Sarutobi died—
He would never be Hokage.
"Danzō, let the whole of Konoha see your true face!"
As soon as Renji finished, he struck.
Danzō's right arm was severed at the shoulder. The bandages fell to the ground.
The pale, dismembered arm hit the dirt—and the dozens of open Sharingan stared out in every direction.
The surrounding crowd recoiled in disgust and shock.
Danzō had really transplanted Uchiha Sharingan!?
At that moment, every shinobi present was stunned.
