It's been about five years since that day, and it's been two since I thought about Mei Ling. Although I was her in my past life, there is really nothing left of her in the now self. When blurred memories appear, I always try to avoid them or distract myself. I thought that, if it continued like this, I could forget her... or so I thought, until today.
She Xiu, suddenly, called me and showed me a gift that my father bought for my mother. I knew it as soon as I saw it: it was a mirror. Are they just creating them? How stupid... -I said to myself. But my heart was shaking. The closer I got, the wilder I was. Then, I stopped.
She Xiu, noticing my nervousness, smiled sweetly at me.
"You don't have to worry," he said softly. It won't hurt you.
He also smiled sweetly and, little by little, approached the mirror. He closed his eyes unconsciously, while She Xiu carefully removed the blanket that covered the reflection.
"Please... open your eyes and look at yourself," she said in a soft voice.
With great difficulty, Liang Feng opened his beautiful blue eyes. He remained silent. Surprised. Happy. Desperate... and, for some reason, a deep sadness brushed his heart.
What he saw in the mirror was a white-skinned boy, so soft and delicate that it looked like porcelain. He had straight hair, halfway up his back, and intense blue eyes, as vivid as the sky. Her cheeks and pink lips gave her an almost unreal appearance, as if she didn't belong to this world.
Suddenly, the edges of his eyes reddened. I wanted to cry. Seriously... I wanted to cry.
Suddenly, a memory came to his mind.
Beginning of the flashback
"If you keep eating, you'll get fat..." the one who said that was Mei Ling's mother. He continued in a cold voice—: Who would want someone fat and ugly? You should lose weight. You're too disgusting and dirty. You're 17 years old and you still don't learn anything. You disappoint me so much... At least, if you were good for work, but you're not even worth it. You should get ready to support me, okay? Why didn't I have another daughter? Look at my brothers, they have excellent children, but you... you can't do anything for yourself. How disgusted my life has been since you arrived. Since you were born, my life was ruined.
End of the flashback
Liang Feng smiled bitterly and murmured:
"I had forgotten... That was a few months before he died." That's right... I was 17 years old when I died. How young and stupid she was.
Suddenly, a silent tear ran down her cheek.
She Xiu, when she saw him, immediately worried and asked him if he was okay, if he needed anything. Liang Feng was stunned for a moment, but gave him a sincere smile as he replied:
"I'm fine, don't worry."
He wiped his cheek, turned around and walked to his room. He locked the door. Once alone, he could no longer contain himself. He let himself fall to the floor, crying and sobbing in silence, repeating over and over again those words that he could not forget, remembering strongly everything he hated about himself.
But at the same time, a voice in the depths of his mind told him something different...
It wasn't your fault... it wasn't your fault... I was just a girl... Why? Why?
Until he saw me dead, didn't he leave me alone? Well, you deserve it. Maybe you didn't feel anything... but at least I'll never bother you again.
Suddenly, Liang Feng wiped his tears and lay down on his bed. After taking out everything he felt, a smile appeared on his face. He looked at the ceiling and said to himself: "Seeing the kind side, she's gone, and I'm... incredibly cute. I like this me. Seriously, I like it."
For a moment, he kept thinking about what he had just said, until he got out of bed, determined. "Today I'm going to take an important step. For the first time, I have to leave this house. I can't stand being here anymore. I want to know much more... and I'm going to achieve that."
After thinking about it for a moment, his mind focused on an idea. "I'll ask She Xiu to show me the city. It's time to discover what the world has to offer me!"
