"Name."
"Li Si."
"Gender."
"...Male."
"Age."
Unexpectedly, before Officeer Zhang could continue, Li Si cut in quickly:
"That guy over there is a pickpocket."
"Huh?" Officer Zhang blinked, thrown off.
"I've been watching him for a while now," Li Si said, pointing casually. "He's pretending to be a white-collar worker, but he's never once carried a briefcase. And on a crowded bus at 7 a.m., when everyone else is half-asleep, he's alert as a hawk. Tell me that's not a pickpocket?"
"I'm cheerful and civic-minded. I would never let scum like that get away in public!"
His words spilled out in rapid fire, like he was afraid someone would interrupt him mid-monologue.
Officer Zhang was speechless. "Even so, that doesn't mean you can just—"
"I know!" Li Si interrupted again, nodding solemnly. "That's why I returned all the stolen wallets to their owners."
There was a long pause.
What are you even talking about?
That's what Officer Zhang wanted to shout. But the worst part? Li Si wasn't lying.
They had searched his home thoroughly. No stolen goods, no evidence, nothing.
"I swear I haven't done anything illegal. But if you think I have, go ahead and punish me."
Li Si sat up straight, placed his hands flat on the table, and looked every inch the righteous citizen.
Officer Zhang could only sigh. He stood up slowly, defeated.
"You got away with it this time," he muttered. "But I know you're hiding something."
His eyes narrowed. "Don't cause trouble. I'll be watching you."
Ten minutes later, outside the Public Security Bureau.
Li Si slurped a bowl of Chezai noodles in a quiet alley, squatting on the ground like a forgotten side character. He hadn't eaten all day—he'd been interrogated from ten in the morning until eight at night.
As he chewed, he sighed.
Officer Zhang was right.
He was hiding something.
After transmigrating to this world, Li Si had received a strange gift: the [Criminal System].
Its function was straightforward—unlock criminal templates, complete their associated crimes, and receive rewards or upgrades.
Currently, Li Si had unlocked two:
[Murderer (Normal)]
[Thief (Exquisite)]
To be honest, the system felt more like a curse than a cheat.
This was modern society—surveillance cameras were everywhere. Crime was nearly guaranteed to be caught on film. And even worse, each criminal template subtly affected his behavior.
It wasn't enough to turn him into a true killer...
But enough to make his daily life a mess.
"Troublesome..." Li Si muttered, scratching his head in frustration.
Still, scratching wouldn't solve anything. He tossed the empty bowl and stood up, preparing to hail a cab home.
Unfortunately, it was past midnight. The streets were nearly empty, and taxis were nowhere in sight.
After a long wait, a lone vehicle approached and slowed beside him.
The window rolled down, revealing a round-faced man who called out, "Hey buddy, where you headed?"
Li Si glanced inside. Four people were crammed in the van, including the driver—three men and one woman, all surrounded by camera gear.
TV station staff, most likely.
"I'm going home," Li Si said.
Whether it was his good looks or just sympathy, the crew murmured among themselves for a moment before letting him in.
Once settled inside, the chubby man introduced himself. "I'm Director Yang. I shoot documentaries."
"Nice to meet you," Li Si said politely.
Director Yang seemed easygoing and cheerful. He chuckled, "Can't let you ride for free. I'll have to interview you later."
Li Si smiled. "Sure."
Yang had only been joking at first—but seeing Li Si's smile, he immediately changed his mind.
He had a habit of filming interviews with random people for material. But finding someone this photogenic? That was rare.
"Alright, I'm serious now!" Yang grinned. "Camera, ready?"
The photographer nodded and adjusted the angle.
Yang patted Li Si on the shoulder. "By the way, where exactly do you live?"
Li Si replied casually, "Yuchuan Street."
Screeeech—!
The van braked so hard everyone lurched forward.
Director Yang and the driver turned toward Li Si with expressions like they'd just seen a ghost.
"Y-Y-Yuchuan Street?"
That was the Yuchuan Street. Infamous for its lawlessness, rumored to be a haven for fugitives.
And this beautiful young man wanted them to drive there? In the middle of the night?
