Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: The Capital of Elaria and the Whisper of Fate

The capital of the Elarian Kingdom rose before us in majestic splendor. Towering spires of magic pierced the clouds, white stone streets gleamed under the sun, and the sky was alive with enchanted birds and winged creatures gliding lazily overhead.

"I could get used to this," I murmured, eyeing a street café that radiated the tempting aroma of freshly baked cheese bread.

Aurelia glanced at me. "You're not here for a vacation."

"But a quick coffee break wouldn't hurt, right?"

She didn't reply, but I swore her eyes softened—just a little.

We boarded a silver arcane carriage that whisked us straight to the royal castle. Inside, I felt like an alien dropped into the middle of a high-society fantasy film. Eyes followed me—some curious, others suspicious. A few… afraid.

[Hostile Aura Detected: High]

"They don't seem too fond of strangers," I whispered to Aurelia.

"High Humans are known as walking calamities," she said flatly. "None of the ones who came before… brought peace."

I nodded slowly. "Then maybe it's time someone did."

When we reached the grand hall, we were ushered before the High Council. Archmages, nobles, and generals sat in a circle surrounding the vacant throne of King Noctis.

An old man in golden robes stood. "You… are the wielder of the Dragonblade?"

"Haven't named it yet," I said. "But yeah. It's mine. We're partners."

Aurelia stepped forward. "He is not an enemy. He is... a possibility."

A sharp-eyed woman with glasses and a frostbitten aura countered, "And possibilities can become threats if left unchecked. Can he truly be trusted, Princess?"

Aurelia fell silent. Her eyes flicked toward me… and then she spoke.

"If I'm the one keeping watch, yes. I'll take full responsibility."

Her words made my heart skip—just a beat.

[Bond Progress: Aurelia – +10]

After a long, heated debate, the council agreed. I wasn't exactly welcomed—but I was given a chance. I'd stay in the castle… as a guest. Or a prisoner. Depending on who you asked.

That night, Aurelia and I stood side by side on the castle balcony, gazing at the city bathed in crystal light.

"You meant it?" I asked quietly.

"Meant what?"

"Saying you'd take responsibility for me."

Aurelia looked at me. "I don't usually trust strangers... But when I looked into your eyes—I saw you're not like the others."

I chuckled. "Then I promise you won't regret it."

She stared for a moment… then turned away, cheeks ever so slightly flushed.

"Don't get too full of yourself, Ace."
