Chapter 2 - CHAPTER 1

Gillian's gaze drifted out the classroom window, rain-soaked droplets blurring the world outside. The teacher's voice became background noise as he lost himself in thought. His life felt like a never-ending routine: classes, homework, repeat. But amidst the monotony, a spark within him flickered, hinting at something more. A sense of purpose he couldn't quite grasp.

Little did he know, the world beyond his small town was on the brink of chaos. And he was about to become its center

.

Gillian walked out of the school building, the warm sun on his face a welcome change from the fluorescent lights of the classrooms. He grinned at his friends Gregory and Austin, who were already waiting by the gate. The three of them had been inseparable since elementary school, and their daily routine included a healthy dose of banter and competition.

Gillian was a bit taller than his friends, with unruly brown hair and a scattering of freckles across his nose. He had a perpetual air of mischief about him, and his bright blue eyes sparkled with excitement whenever he was plotting something. As they set off towards the woods, Gillian felt a thrill of anticipation. The shortcut through the forest was their favorite route, and they loved racing each other home.

"I'm gonna win for sure!" Gregory boasted, flexing his arms. Austin snorted, "Yeah, right! I'm the fastest!" Gillian chuckled, shaking his head. "You're both going down. I'm the champ!" The friendly rivalry was all part of the fun, and Gillian felt carefree and alive as they approached the woods. Little did he know, this shortcut would lead him on an adventure he'd never forget.

Gillian walked out of school with his friends Gregory and Austin, grinning mischievously. "Race you home!" Gregory exclaimed, and they nodded in unison. Their plan was to take the shortcut through the woods, a route they'd taken many times before. The thrill of racing and the freedom of the woods was too enticing to resist.

As they entered the woods, they took off, their sneakers pounding the dirt path. Gillian pulled ahead, his long legs eating up the distance. Austin and Gregory were hot on his heels, their laughter and shouts echoing through the trees. The sun filtered through the canopy above, casting dappled shadows on the forest floor.

Just as they were hitting their stride, a rustling in the underbrush caught their attention. A wild boar burst from the thicket, its eyes fixed on the trio. "Whoa!" Austin yelled, veering sharply to the left. Gregory followed suit, but Gillian hesitated for a split second, and the boar charged straight at him.

Gillian sprinted to the right, but in the chaos, he lost sight of his friends. The boar thundered past him, and Gillian kept running, his heart racing. When he finally stopped to catch his breath, he realized he was alone. "Gregory? Austin?" he called out, but there was no response. Gillian's stomach twisted with worry – he was lost in the woods.

Gillian trudged through the dense woods, his eyes scanning the familiar yet ominous surroundings. He had wandered further than he meant to, and now the sun was setting, casting long shadows that seemed to move of their own accord. His mom would be worried, and his big sister, Emma, would probably lecture him about being more careful. Gillian sighed, pushing aside branches and fighting his way through thick underbrush.

As the darkness deepened, Gillian stumbled upon a strange, glowing object half-buried in the earth. It pulsed with an otherworldly energy, and without thinking, he reached out to touch it. The moment his skin made contact, a surge of power coursed through his body, and he felt himself being drawn into the object. Everything went white, and Gillian's world spun out of control.

When Gillian came to, he was lying on the forest floor, the object – now revealed to be an alien core – still clutched in his hand. He felt... different. His senses seemed heightened, and he could feel a strange energy coursing through his veins. As he stumbled to his feet, Gillian realized that he was no longer alone in the woods. The trees seemed to be watching him, and the wind carried whispers he couldn't quite decipher.

Gillian's journey back home was a blur. He stumbled through the woods, his newfound senses overwhelming him. When he finally emerged into the clearing where his small house stood, his mom rushed out to hug him tightly, relief etched on her face. Emma, however, looked concerned, her eyes narrowing as she took in Gillian's disheveled appearance. "What happened?" she asked, her voice firm.

As Gillian tried to explain, he realized that he couldn't. He didn't know what had happened, or what the alien core had done to him. All he knew was that he felt changed, like he was no longer just a lost boy in the woods. The power of the core pulsed within him, waiting to be unleashed. Gillian's eyes met Emma's, and he wondered if his life would ever be the same again.
