Chapter 9: "An Angelic Blessing."

Dawn of a new era - no buckets

Martha, the maid, was stunned in the doorway, clutching at the doorjamb with white fingers.

- "I...I'm undecided."

- "Just pull the chain," Romulus encouraged affectionately, pointing to the shining lever that crowned the snow-white statue.

Martha twitched hesitantly, and a cascade of clear water poured into the bowl, washing away her embarrassment.

- "Holy smokes!" - she whispered, crossing herself, watching everything disappear like a bad dream. - "It's-it's a miracle!"

Romulus smiled faintly.

"Finally. Civilization."

Court Recognition

The cooks stopped pouring slop into the yard, and the hordes of rats thinned.

The knights, accustomed to Spartan comforts, were now fighting for the right to be the first to sit on the "Angel Throne".

Alicia decorated her restroom with a herbarium and solicited "scented trinkets" (Romulus promised to conjure up a freshener).

But what was most striking was the reaction of the servants.

Maid Elsa burst into tears at the realization that she would no longer have to bust her ass carrying stinking buckets up and down the stairs:

- **"Young master...you are our **savior!"

From that day on, every servant considered it his duty to shower the boy with blessings whenever he passed by.

Count Lucian: triumph and confusion

The Count sat for an hour on end in his new "meditation room" (as he christened it), pulling the chain and watching the whirlpool mesmerized.

- **"Son...this *will* turn the world upside down, "** he finally uttered, walking out with an unreadable expression on his face.

- **"Only if the other nobles *stop being afraid* of this 'diabolical invention', "** Romulus sighed.

- "Nonsense! Let them try to refuse when their ladies appreciate the splendor of porcelain thrones!"

But what struck the Count most of all was not even the invention itself, but the way his son communicated with ordinary people:

Personally explained to each maid the intricacies of using the lever.

He teased with the blacksmiths about the first misfires of the miracle machine.

He stood up for the clumsy apprentice who dropped his trumpet ("No problem, we'll fix it").

In the evening the Count clasped Romulus more tightly to him than usual:

- "I'm proud not only of your intelligence, son. "but also of your nobility.
