Chapter 10 - Sports Festival

Homeroom

Suzuki sat next to Kiyomi as Chabashira grabbed everyone's attention.

"The next event coming up is the Sports Festival."

Most of the class looked annoyed as Suzuki sighed.

'Looks like we don't have the most active group in this class.'

Sudo then stood up in excitement.

"Alright!!! I'll lead out class to victory!"

Many people smiled, sweat dropping a little. Suzuki smiled.

'Of course he's still energetic.'

Kiyomi looked at Suzuki.

"You must feel pretty confident."

Suzuki nodded.

"I'm pretty sure I'll do well. You must feel good about it to."

"Well I think I'll do fine."

Suzuki sweat dropped.

'If she went all out I'm sure she'd do better than just fine. I wouldn't be surprised with how she pried Koenji's arm off in their first meeting though it could be that he held back it's still impressive regardless.'

Chabashira then spoke.

"In the following days, you will receive physical training and testing to determine your abilities."

Hirata raised his hand.

"Is the Sport's Festival a Special Exam?"

Chabashira smirked.

"Class Points can be earned so think of it as you will."

The Class heard this, and now it was confirmed. The Sports Festival was a Special Exam, and so it should not be taken lightly.

Rooftop

Suzuki stepped onto the rooftop.

"Calling me here after hours. You know we're not allowed to be up here right?"

Kiyomi looked at him.

"It's not like you were followed right?"

"No. I wasn't."

"Then everything will be alright then."

"Why did you call me up here anyways."

Kiyomi sat down and then lay down on the ground, staring up at the sky.

"I just wanted to ask you some things."

Suzuki raised an eyebrow as he sat down next to her.

"You came here to stargaze? Are you interested in it?"

"I don't know. I've never tried it before."

Suzuki lay down next to her.

"What did you want to know?"

"I've never been told about the constellations. All I know is that one."

She pointed at the North Star.

"The North Star huh? I guess that's the most practical one to know about."

"Tell me about the others."

Suzuki pointed to Orion.

"That one is Tsuzumi Boshi. In the west, it's called Orion."

Suzuki pointed to a nearby star.

"That one is Aldebaran. It's a star."

Suzuki then pointed to a cluster of stars.

"That cluster of Stars. In the west, they call it the Pleiades star cluster but here we call it Subaru."

"... Subaru..."

Kiyomi's mind wandered to the past for a second.

["Kiyomi... One day I'll take you away from this place and when we're older we'll get married!"]

"Ayanokoji-San?"

"Um yeah. I heard you."

Suzuki began naming other constellations and stars as Kiyomi paid close attention.

Gym

Kiyomi stood beside Odenera, who handed her the grip strength test.

"Odenera-San. What's the average grip strength?"

Odenera put a finger to her chin.

"Um... I'm not sure. I got 54kg so maybe 45kg?"

"45 huh?"

Kiyomi gripped it in her hand until the meter hit 45kg and then loosened it.

"I'm done."

Kushida turned to her with a clipboard in hand.

"How much did you get."

"45kg."

"Woah. Kiyomi. You're pretty strong."

Kushida smiled.

"Eh? I thought you said that was average Odenera-San."

"Aha. I guess I was wrong."

"Well, it's fine I guess."

Sports Festival

Everyone began doing their best at the Sports Festival when Ryuen started using dirty tactics. Suzuki went head-to-head with him, stopping several of his attempts, but was unable to stop all of them. He sighed, sitting next to Kiyomi, who was eating a bento.

"That damn bastard is so annoying."

"Whether he is or not matters not."

"So what's the plan."

"To lose."

"What?"

"The class is getting a bit overconfident. They need a reality check honestly."

"Are you serious?"

Suzuki was fuming.

"We're making good headway. Why would we want to lose!?"

"Because in this mindset, our class will be Class A in name only and not for long at that."

'It's hard to admit but she's right.'

"I won't stop you from trying to win. In fact, if you did it would be a good morale boost given the effort everyone would have to put in but I won't be turning the tide for us today."

Suzuki sighed.

"Got it. It's up to me then."

"Ganbare."

Kiyomi said this, pumping her hand up.

'Cute...'

Suzuki laughed a little.

"Thanks."

Suzuki walked over to his classmates.

Eventually, Sudo got tired of all the cheating Ryuen engaged in and stormed off. Suzuki followed him.

Separate Area

Suzuki walked up to Sudo leaning on the wall next to him.

"What are you doing here Horikita? Are you here to gloat about being Ayanokoji's boyfriend?"

Suzuki sighed.

"Aren't you the one who told me our competition isn't over yet? And to think I was actually impressed by you in that moment."

"Huh?"

"She's still a very closed-off person you know. Even with me."

"Really?"

"Yeah."

"Why are you actually here?"

"I want you to come back, obviously. Physically, I am better than you...

"You bastard! Did you just come here to talk about how you're better than me?"

"...but that doesn't discount your worth in the slightest."

"What?"

"If you're not there even if I am there we'll lose. In truth our class needs both of us out there."

"You..."

"I acknowledge you Ken Sudo. You are my rival."

Sudo made a shocked face and then grunted in annoyance.

"What's that about man? You're grossing me out."

Suzuki sighed.

"A fool will always be a fool."

Suzuki said this as he began to walk off.

"What's that supposed to mean asshole?"

"You're an idiot. That's what it means."

"Huh? You bastard!"

"I was challenging you. But I guess I'll have to push myself so our class will win this even without you. The moment that happens it really will discount your worth entirely."

Sudo got pissed as he ran past Suzuki.

"Like hell, you will! I'm gonna earn us more points than you jerk!"

"So you're not going to run off like a crybaby every time Ryuen pulls a dirty trick?"

Sudo got even more pissed

"It's all good. I'll just hold it in so I can rub it in his face when we win.'

Suzuki smirked.

"That's the spirit."

Suzuki and Sudo returned to the events as they began competing with each other, as Ryuen's tricks didn't even work anymore. Ryuen tried to pretend tripping as Suzuki and Sudo grabbed his arms, pulling him onto his feet.

"Careful there Ryuen."

"Yeah, dumbass."

They then rushed past him as Ryuen made an annoyed face. Suzuki wiped the sweat from his forehead as he sat down next to Sudo.

"I'm winning idiot."

Sudo looked annoyed.

"For now you arrogant asshole."

Suzuki and Sudo were about to get up when Kiyomi stepped between them, putting her hands on their shoulders.

"Good job you two. Our Class is going to win the exam. I'll finish this off."

Suzuki looked at Kiyomi.

"But you said..."

"Well it's inevitable now and no one's going to discount the effort that had to be put in so I might as well put us in a further lead."

Sudo looked confused at this, but Suzuki nodded.

"Last one is the relay race. My sister's in it. Are you okay facing off against her?"

Kiyomi nodded.

"If it's her I think letting loose wouldn't be to bad of a thing."

'Seriouisly? I'm going to see her let loose?'

Suzuki looked a little excited as Kiyomi walked over to her anchor position. Sudo smirked.

"She's fucking awesome."

Suzuki made a surprised face and smiled.

"Yeah... she is."

Kiyomi stood next to Makoto as she tied her hair into a ponytail so it wouldn't get in the way.

"Hi there President."

"Well well Ayanokoji. It looks like your relationship with my little brother has improved a bit."

"Oh yeah... I didn't get the chance to tell you this since we don't really know each other all that well but we're dating now."

Makoto smirked.

"About time."

Makoto then looked at her closely.

"Are you going all out today?"

"No but I'm going to let loose a little."

"Only a little?"

"Do I need to do more than that?"

Makoto smiled.

"You sure are confident."

"Yeah, I guess I am."

Makoto's teammate ran up to her, passing the baton to her.

"Um..."

"Good work. Leave the rest to me."

Makoto turned to Kiyomi.

"I hope my little brother isn't causing you too many problems."

"Not at all. I've watched him grow into a much more impressive person with my own eyes."

Makoto smiled.

"I'm glad to hear that... I really am."

"Don't get too distracted. You want to win right?"

Makoto gave a confused look.

"Of course."

"Then run like your life depends on it."

Makoto smirked.

"Very well.

Kushida rushed towards Kiyomi with the baton in hand, giving it to Kiyomi.

"Kiyomi!"

Kiyomi took it but didn't move.

"Kiyomi?"

"Good work Kikyo. I'll handle the rest."

Kushida looked confused.

"President. Shall we start?"

Makoto nodded.

"3...2...1!"

They set off running and started passing the other competitors as everyone looked at this in shock.

'Woah! So fast. Nee-Chan is still ahead of me huh? Ayanokoji-San too.'

Makoto started sweating from exertion as she looked at Kiyomi, who was beside her and noticed she wasn't sweating at all. Makoto wore a surprised expression from this as Kiyomi slowly took the lead.

"I'll see you at the finish line President."

Kiyomi ran past the finish line as Makoto finished not long after. Makoto wiped the sweat off her face as she faced Kiyomi.

"How impressive."

"You were very impressive as well President."

Makoto sighed.

"Not good enough for you to go all out though."

"Guess not."

"I don't mind you know."

"You don't mind losing to me?"

"I don't mind if you call me Nee-Chan once in a while."

"..."

Makoto laughed as Kiyomi sighed.

"Please don't make jokes like that. It's scary how you can make them with such a straight face."

Kushida ran towards Kiyomi.

"That was amazing!"

"Thanks, Kikyo."

Suzuki walked over.

"That really was something."

"I saw you cheering me on Suzuki. Thanks for that."

'She just... used... my first name?'

"Um yeah, Ki... Ayanokoji-San."

'I can't do it. Not yet.'

Makoto smirked. Ryuen walked over, smirking.

"It's your complete victory Kiyomi. The way you're doing all this is kinda sexy you know."

Kushida made an annoyed face.

"Ryuen. Please stop with your harassment."

Ryuen smirked when Kiyomi looked at Ryuen in a confused way.

"Hm? I didn't do anything until the end though."

Ryuen smirked.

"Oh really?"

"Yeah. Suzuki and Sudo did most of the heavy lifting. I didn't contribute that much at all."

"What?"

Ryuen made an annoyed face.

"I lost to two fucking pawns!?"

Sudo smirked as he walked over.

"You ain't as great as you think asshole. You lost."

Ryuen gritted his teeth in annoyance as he left.

Homeroom

Chabashira smirked as she walked into the room.

"Well done. You've earned a few Class Points today."

Everyone cheered as Chabashira wrote up the results.

Class A: +50

Class B: -50

Class C: -100

Class D: +100

Chabashira looked approvingly at her class.

"You all have managed to surprise me time and time again. I'm really proud of you all you know."

Everyone looked surprised at her kind words.

"In fact. you've impressed me so much that congratulations further are in order. You are officially the best Class D the school has ever had. Actually I guess I have to apologize to you all now. After all, you're not Class D anymore."

Class A (Sakayanagi) : 924

Class B (Ichinose): 753

Class C (Horikita): 512

Class D (Ryuen): 492

There was a silence for a second before everyone began celebrating. Suzuki turned to Kiyomi.

"This was thanks to you."

"It's true we wouldn't have been promoted without my input but you'd be close enough to manage it on your own in our next exam. In addition I wouldn't have stepped in if the results weren't satisfactory from your efforts. You made this possible."

Suzuki let this sink in for a second.

'I... made this possible...'

Suzuki smiled.

"Thank you. Kiyomi-San."

Kiyomi looked at Suzuki and smiled a little.

Suzuki sighed.

'We're Class C now. but we're still more than 200 Class Points behind Class B. Now's not the time to be content but... I really am happy right now.'

Suzuki looked at Kiyomi.

'You've changed me so much. You mean so much more to me than just being a cutie.'
