Chapter 2
The Prince
My mother and I
trained until dawn and all three of my brothers came back and we all trained
except for Jonah for obvious reasons.
"Hey, what do you
think your mate will be like? I tall werewolf man with the presence of an alpha
or a short omega? Maybe an alpha female or omega, probably an omega because
you're an alpha like dad was." Koda speed fires as he looks up at me with
innocent and curious eyes.
I won't say that he
didn't catch me off guard because he did, "I don't know, I never really thought
about it. I'm happy no matter who it is, even if I get mated to a human. All I
ask is that they'll accept me, which is what you should be doing little
brother." I tell him gently flicking his forehead making him feign pain and
crying to our mom as she laughs.
"Darling you can't
feel pain so stop pretending, at least you weren't flung into a wall this time
my love," she laughs before kissing his forehead as he pouts.
"It doesn't hurt
physically but it hurts emotionally, why don't you pity me mother?" Koda sighs
as he clutches his chest and places his hand on his head as he fake faints
making me roll my eyes at him but smile nonetheless while Zion laughs and Jonah
giggles watching him earning an eye roll from our mother as well as she laughs.
"Because, my darling
child, you are going to be fifteen soon and Zion will be twelve and Jonah will
be four. You're all growing up and unlike everyone else you will live forever,
meaning you all will have more than one mate in your lifetimes if they are not
like us. Who knows, maybe the gods will bless you with a mate that also lives
forever like us." Mom says as she picks up Jonah and then walks over to me.
"Kenai, my dear,
don't worry too much about today, you will be able to fully shift into your
dragon and fae this year and have all four out at once this evening with enough
practice. I love you my darling son. My first baby!" She says as she ruffles my
hair kissing my head.
"There's one more
thing I want to tell all of you before we go back into the house, you will be
getting a new sibling next Summer." She tells us as we stare at her for a
minute while looking from each other then back to her a few times before we
jump up and down like a bunch of excited pups that finally get to go outside
for the first time and explore the world.
"This is the best
birthday ever mom!" I say excitedly while hugging her. I love my brothers and I
couldn't imagine my life without them so getting another baby brother would
make me really happy, though I would love to have a baby sister someday too.
"I hope so, but this
isn't the only news we have for you today my dear," she says as she takes my
hand leading me and my two brothers out of the arena and into the pack house
then into the kitchen where a whole feast is set up making my mouth drop open
and I drool smelling all the delicious food on the table in front of me. We
might not breathe but we can still smell.
"Did dad make all of
this?" I ask her as she nods.
"He wanted to make
you something special since this is your sixteenth birthday, you may not be his
blood but he wants to make sure you have all your favorite foods, even the ones
your father would make you when you were little. He loves you very much and he
wishes Zion was here with us to celebrate your birthday with us and no I don't
mean you my son, your father," she giggles as Zion looks at her confused before
realizing who she's talking about.
"Oh, you mean father,
I was so confused, because I'm right here," My brother says as we all laugh
making him pout.
"What's with all the
laughter?" Alex my stepfather asks as he enters the kitchen with a big box in
his hands.
"We were just teasing
Zion, my love, is everything ready?"
"Seems like you were
having fun without me my darling mate," Alex says as he walks up to her, bending down kissing her earning an angry squeal from Jonah as he pushes their
faces apart.
"No kiss!" He shouts
as he hugs mom tightly glaring at him making us all burst into laughter.
"But she's, my wife!"
Alex teases making my baby brother shake his head and yell no over and over
again as Koda, Zion and I fall to the ground laughing uncontrollably.
"No! My mommy!" Jonah
squeals in his little high-pitched voice making us laugh even harder.
"I had her first Jonah...why can't I love on my goddess of a wife?" Alex asks while pretending to be hurt by his first son's words.
"Oh, stop it, you
know he's only three, he'll get tired of me eventually just like his brothers
did." Mom says as she playfully hits his chest while giggling.
Alex is no short man;
he is full alpha wolf standing at six foot three with muscles that make it seem
like he goes to the gym on the daily when in reality he just trains the worriers in both forms every day except for when he has a ton of paper work to do and on special occasions like the full moon run and our birthdays. With
raven black hair and emerald green eyes, to sum it up we all look like gods.
With our otherworldly beauty that makes us confident but also shy, me
especially because I don't like flaunting how I look.
"I know my love but it's so fun teasing our little baby and while speaking of babies how's our little one coming along? Not giving you any trouble, is he?" My stepfather asks as he places a hand on my mother's stomach gently.
"No, not yet, though
if he's anything like you he might in another month or two. Right now, let's focus on the birthday boy, shall we? Before he and his brothers go to school." She tells him as she gives him a quick kiss on the cheek before looking at me and my brothers who had stopped laughing and were now staring at the food on the table like the hungry wolves we were, well, our wolves and dragons, we
don't really need to eat but we like the taste of food and the smell of it if cooked correctly like they should be.
There were all kinds of breakfast items,
like French toast with cinnamon sugar and powdered sugar and syrup with sausage
and bacon and eggs, etc. Alex and mom looked at me with smiles on their faces
after I snapped out of my trance and looked at them.
"Kenai, happy
birthday, I know you are not my real son but that won't stop me from loving you
like my own any less. I picked this out for you because I know how much you like drawing and I couldn't think of anything else that would suit you better." Alex said as he walked up to me and handed me the box he had been holding the entire time.
I had a knack for drawing people and things. I loved the concept of art and how it tells stories and how you can feel emotions just by looking at the pictures. I took the box
from him and opened it slowly while silently hoping it was what I've been wanting for the past three months now. When I opened it fully, I took out the big sketch book and all the boxes with pencils and erasers along with sharpies.
When I was done taking everything out of the box, I had tears running down my face, but they weren't sad tears, no they were tears of absolute joy because he had given me
one of the things I wanted for my birthday this year. I stare at them for a minute before turning to him and hugging him tightly with happy tears streaming down my face.
"Thank you, dad!" I
say through tears.
"Of course, I heard
you mention it and saw the endless amounts of drawings you had around your room
so I thought I would get you proper tools to draw with. I'm happy you like them and Zephier says happy birthday too. I'm glad I get to be your dad even if it's not by blood." Alex says as he hugs me back. Zephier is his wolf who also treats me like his own pup.
I have never hugged him before and I rarely ever hug my mother, so when I say it shocked her and my brothers, I mean they were speechless and seeing me cry made them realize just how much I had been hurting since my father died.
Mom looked sad but happy at the same time trying to hold back her own tears. I hadn't thought of Alex as my dad until I was ten years old and I finally started to trust him. I was still traumatized by what had happened so I didn't trust anyone who wasn't my mother or brothers when I was young.
I was always cautious around him, even with my mother, because I didn't know what was going on and that kept me from trusting him or wanting to get close to him. I miss my
father, I always will, but I learned to accept him as my dad because my real
one was gone and he treated me like I was his own son.
"I'm happy I get to be your son," I tell him before letting him go and looking at my mother.
"Let's eat, you three
need to get ready for school after we're done and Kenai, you can take your sketch book to school with you, I know how bored you get during lunch, so take it with you." My mother said as she brushed my hair out of my face and kissed my forehead before we all sat down and started to eat the food in front of us.
Once we finished eating, Koda, Zion and I went to our rooms and got dressed for school. Within minutes we were ready and running out our rooms down the winding stairs and out the front door after saying goodbye to mom to school. We liked to run there because of the wind in our faces, plus we were really fast so we got there in under
five seconds.
The school looked like a castle with how big it was with black brick walls and windows that let us look out over the campus. We were a little early but we went into the school
and to our classes without having to navigate through a sea of students. This school is only for werewolves, we don't start classes at eight in the morning like most human schools do, classes start at ten in the morning and end
at four. We do this because we like school and what we get taught, especially since we train here as well.
The training grounds are adjacent to the gym and the pool. We have everything a normal human school would have just bigger and way better, we also have dorms for the kids who like to stay after school and work on projects for their classes.
Once I got to my class I went and sat down in my seat at the very back of the class. I like
staying here because it keeps Jayden and his lackies from seeing me and out of their sight, sometimes.
"Do we really have to continue putting up with their bullshit? Wouldn't things be better if they just left us alone?" Aragon asked as he growled at the notion of Jayden messing with
us after we had just woken up from a nightmare we would prefer not see again.
"Yes, it would but we don't want to get into trouble, it's better to make them think we are weak because when the time comes, we can show them just how powerful we really are,
which is the fun part. Good things always come to those who wait," Rowan said
as he glared at the giant black dragon.
Aragon scoffed, "When that day finally comes, I will personally put that idiot in his place. You'll let me do that won't you Kenai? Oh, how fun it would be to see him quiver with
fear under my claws," he laughs the sound of it booming within the walls of my mind it almost causes me a headache.
"You're giving me a headache Aragon, but yes you can teach him a lesson when it's finally time to show our worth." I tell him. Just when I thought I could get some peace and
quiet before class started my classmates start walking into the class and shout
happy birthday to me as they filter in and put a pile of presents on my desk.
"This, is all for
me?" I ask shocked at the giant pile in front of me and start to open them one by one. They all got me art supplies; I couldn't help but smile at them and thank them for everything.
"Of course this is all for you silly, it's your eighteenth birthday, you get to meet your mate today if they're here! Which is awesome!" Sally says happily as she sits in her desk across from me making everyone else sit down as well.
"You're welcome, dude, we all like you and appreciate everything you do for us and with us, plus you're a really cool guy. We couldn't ask for a better friend." Luke replies as everyone else agrees with him.
"Now if only Jayden and his doom squad would leave you alone for once, especially today. I swear those guys don't know when to shut up and be good, you don't deserve the way they treat you. You've been nothing but kind to us and one of these days they're
gonna pull a stupid prank and get their asses in trouble. Hopefully after getting a lesson from your mom might make them change their ways. Luna is scary when she's pissed, especially about her first born." Lyra explains as everyone nods and hums in agreement.
"I would love for Luna to be my mom, she's amazing, you're really lucky Kenai." Jared says as again everyone agrees what the others are saying.
"Thanks guys, I just wish my father was here to celebrate it with me, I would like to spar with him like I do with dad." I tell them as I smile sadly as they all give me sympathetic
looks knowing how I feel.
Just when things were getting lively again, Jayden and his little crew walks in and looks straight at me with cruel grins. "Well, looks like the birthday boy finally woke up so we
could have some fun." He says in a sarcastic tone. If I could die, I would fear for my life, but since I can't, I fear for the scars that will soon decorate whichever part of my body he decides to scar if he cuts deep enough.
