The morning sun filtered through the windows of their peaceful home in Italy. Amara had been feeling odd for a few days, but this morning was different. Her steps slowed, her breaths became heavy, and then—sharp pain.
"Santiago," she said, gripping his arm, "I think… it's time."
Everything moved fast. Santiago helped her into the car, trying to keep calm. Israel, now four, sat in the backseat, gripping her favorite stuffed bear.
"Is Mommy okay?" she asked, eyes wide.
"She's okay, cariño," Santiago assured her with a quick smile. "Your little sister is ready to meet us."
The hospital room was filled with tense silence, soft beeps, and whispered prayers. Santiago waited with Israel by his side, holding her hand tightly. He remembered the chaos they had escaped—corruption, danger, betrayal—and how this moment was everything they had fought for.
Hours later, a nurse stepped out with a smile. "Mr. Morales, congratulations. You have a beautiful baby girl. And your wife is doing just fine."
Tears welled in his eyes. He lifted Israel into his arms. "You're a big sister now."
They walked into the room together. Amara looked tired but radiant. In her arms was a tiny, swaddled bundle—eyes closed, lips gently parted, peaceful as the moon.
"She's perfect," Santiago whispered.
"She is," Amara said, her voice trembling. "I've been thinking about a name. Something that reflects hope, peace, and how she lit up our lives even before she arrived."
Santiago looked at her, then at the baby. "Luna," he said, like a prayer.
Amara nodded, smiling. "Yes. Luna."
Israel leaned in, eyes wide in awe. "Hi Luna. I'm your big sister. I'm gonna protect you forever."
Santiago kissed Amara's forehead, then Luna's. "Welcome to the world, Luna. You are everything."
But just as the moment felt too perfect, his phone buzzed.
Unknown number.
He hesitated… then answered.
A cold, distorted voice whispered:
"Enjoy your peace while it lasts, Santiago. There's still one shadow left."
Santiago slowly turned to look at his wife and daughters. His jaw clenched. No matter what darkness still lingered, he'd protect them with everything he had.
Luna had just arrived—and he wouldn't let anything take her light away.
