On a hot morning in Bangkok where almost everyone needs a cold drink, Punya, a woman in her late twenties who always seems happy at her small smoothie shop, is still busy behind the counter. Her long brown hair is neatly tied up so that it doesn't get in the way while she works. She picks up a ripe mango in one hand while the other hand skillfully cuts it with a knife. Her movements in handling each type of fruit show not only her expertise, but also the love and care she has for it.
"The mango smoothie is ready," she said with a bright smile before placing the glass of smoothie on the counter for a regular customer who patronizes her almost every day.
"Fruit Paradise" is not just an ordinary smoothie shop. It is a small paradise for Punya, a place where she gets to be close to a variety of fruits, from papaya to exotic fruits that most people might not know. What makes her different from others is that she has a special ability to "feel" some kind of energy in fruits. Even though she doesn't understand it all yet, she feels like these fruits are telling her something.
Punya grew up in a simple family. She is the only daughter of parents who own a grocery store in the province. Her passion for fruits started when she was young. Every time her father drove to the market to buy coconuts, longans or other seasonal fruits, she would stand beside him with sparkling eyes.
"You know, my child, these fruits are also alive. They grow because of good soil, good water and the hands of those who take care of them." Her father's words were always deeply ingrained in her heart. She learned to respect nature through small things like fruits, and this is what made her decide to open a smoothie shop after graduating.
