Silence hung in the air for a few seconds after the unexpected reunion. Diego took a deep breath. He couldn't keep pretending—not in front of someone who had been a hero in his previous life.
He looked at Sofía and her father, then turned toward the house.
"Wait here for a moment."
He walked away with purpose and disappeared among the training groups. A short while later, he returned with his grandmother Berny by his side.
She walked calmly, her eyes brighter than usual, as if she carried within her a secret the world wasn't ready to understand.
"Grandma," Diego said softly, "they need to know. He's important… in the future. And she will be too."
Berny nodded without asking questions. Since the day before, when she had awakened her ability, she had begun to understand that many things were no longer coincidences.
Her power, Future Vision, not only allowed her to see glimpses of what was to come, but also to share those visions with others, allowing them to experience what she saw.
Diego turned to Sofía and Manuel.
"I know this all seems insane. I don't want you to think we're some kind of cult. The truth is more complex… but also more urgent."
"Urgent?" Sofía repeated, still skeptical.
"The world as we know it… is going to change. Very soon. In less than a year. This isn't just a disaster—it's the end of an era. A global catastrophe. Creatures, social collapse, chaos, death. And only a few will survive. My family… we're preparing. But you also deserve to know."
Manuel stepped forward protectively, standing between Diego and his daughter.
"How do you know all this, Diego? Why should we believe you?"
Diego paused for a moment… then gestured toward his grandmother.
"Because she can show you."
Berny stepped forward, placing one hand on Manuel's shoulder and the other on Sofía's.
"This might be intense… but it's real. You'll see it for yourselves."
In that instant, a warm current coursed through their bodies, as if their minds emptied for a second. Their vision blurred… and the future unfolded.
Sofía and her father found themselves in a ruined city. The sky was gray, buildings crumbled, fires burned in the distance. People ran in panic, and among the wreckage… monstrous creatures with glowing eyes hunted relentlessly. Gunshots, screams, crying children, smoke everywhere.
Then, a different scene: the very fortress where they now stood, but surrounded by refugees, wounded people, children. Diego stood at the center, leading. Stronger, more serious. Matías beside him, fighting with a spear. Berny healing others. Rodrigo organizing defenses.
And them—Sofía and her father—fighting alongside the rest. United. Ready.
The vision faded. Both collapsed to their knees, gasping for air.
"What… was that?" Sofía whispered, trembling.
"That is the future," Berny answered calmly. "One of many possible ones. And if you do nothing… it will become reality."
Diego knelt down in front of them.
Sofía and her father were in disbelief. They thanked him for the information, but neither was sure what to make of it. Manuel asked for time—to think, to process everything.
"That's okay," Diego said with understanding. "It's a lot to take in… I get it. Just try not to take too long. Because time… is the one thing we don't have."
