Chapter 1 - Why me!

"When you get done taking out that order sweep the rain off the sidewalk Jeremiah." Jeremiah's boss calls out from the comfort of inside the store.

"Damn why does she hate me so much!" Jeremiah, a tall, heavy guy, mutters under his breath as he carries out the customer's order sitting out in the sparse parking lot.

"Hello there, I got an order for Andrew." Jeremiah's dark brown eyes look into the driver's window looking at the customer.

"Yeah, just put in," the customer gets cut off over the sounds of thunder. "Put it in the trunk."

"Alright sir." He hurriedly loads the order into the vehicle. "You're all set sir. Have a good day."

Jeremiah walked back to the building only to see his boss standing there with a broom. "Here you go." She hands him the broom. "I want all this water gone by the time I come back from my lunch."

"But it's raining, and won't stop until tonight." He pleaded with her.

"And I don't care. Now get it done." She walks away laughing at his misery

Jeremiah watches the door close behind her, "Yeah fuck you too." He tries to open the door only to realize that it's been locked. "Damn it! I guess I'm stuck out here." He sighs and begins to sweep the rain off the sidewalk.

"Stupid boss. Got me out here sweeping the fucking rain. Make no goddamn sense." Lightning strikes roughly 50 feet away make him jump back from the sudden shock of lightning that should have been at least a few miles away.

"I'd rather get struck by lightning than continue to do this shit." Jeremiah throws down the broom.

"I can make it possible." A deep voice with the sound of thunder rumbles all around him.

"Who's there?" He looked all around for the location of the voice. "Naw. I'm not dealing with this shit." Jeremiah begins banging on the door. "Hey, someone let me in!"

The voice appears again. "By the power of the storm. You shall gain the power of the storm. May your life be full of challenges, but may you prevail."

Lightning strikes him and he falls to the ground in scorching agony.

Inside of Jeremiah's internal thoughts, "Is this how I die? Struck by lightning because I was trapped outside. Unable to save myself. I'm going to die without accomplishing anything. Most importantly a virgin."

"Why? Why me?" Calls out weakly to the mysterious voice, but hears no response.

"It's fine I guess. I will always wonder in the afterlife. Why me."

He hears the door open, and footsteps coming towards him. "Hey, I need help!" An angelic voice yells out.

"What a beautiful voice. Too bad I won't be alive long enough to hear more of it." Thinking to himself. "I'm glad I got to hear such a beautiful thing before I died."

Jeremiah slowly closed his eyes.
