Elias

Elias stares at the screen. His hands tremble. The weight of the message from Dr. Raines hangs heavy between them.

"One of you must stay. One of you must be erased permanently."

His chest tightens. His mouth goes dry. He doesn't want to think it. Doesn't want to feel the truth of it, but it's there, glaring at him in cold, impersonal words. The system has been prepared for this. This is how it works.

Jonah turns to face him. The silence between them is suffocating. The choice.

Elias can see the hesitation in Jonah's eyes, the doubt that has been brewing ever since they began unraveling the layers of the system. Jonah's been through his own pain—his own cycles. Maybe even more so than Elias. But now… now, it's different.

They've made it this far. They've survived the endless cycles of guilt, torment, and psychological tests. They've managed to hold onto their sanity for as long as they have, but this final test—this choice—it's different.

Elias speaks, his voice ragged. "Jonah…" He doesn't know how to finish the sentence. He doesn't know how to say what needs to be said.

Jonah's expression hardens. "No. This isn't how it ends."

Elias feels his heart skip. This is it. The moment they both knew was coming, but now that it's here—he can't decide.

"I've already chosen," Jonah says, his voice low but resolute. "I'm not going back to that place. Not to the cycle, not to the tests. You should go. You're the one who can—" He stops, then looks away.

Elias's gut twists. "Jonah, no. I—"

But Jonah cuts him off, his eyes flaring with something fierce. "I've been in this hell longer than you. I've seen every version of myself. Every twisted iteration. And you…" His voice softens just for a moment. "You deserve to get out. You have to."

Elias steps closer, hands trembling, heart racing. "I can't leave you behind."

He knows what this is. The reality of it. Jonah doesn't want to be the one left in the prison—he doesn't want to be erased. But there's a brokenness in Jonah's eyes, a resolve that Elias can't understand.

"Jonah, don't make me choose," Elias pleads, his voice cracking.

Jonah locks eyes with him. "It's the only way. If I stay… if I stay here, I'm just more data for the system to consume. But if you leave… you can break the cycle. You can do it. You can escape, and that's enough."

The air in the chamber seems to thicken. A pressure, unrelenting. The system watches them. It's always watching.

Elias knows. He knows what Jonah is saying. He understands. But he's not ready to leave. Not like this.

---

Jonah

Jonah's stomach churns as Elias stares at him, waiting, his eyes pleading. The desire to protect Elias, to fight this system together, to refuse to choose between them… it's killing him. But he knows the truth.

Jonah has seen the way the system plays. He's lived the loops long enough to know what happens when someone survives. The system doesn't allow survivors—not without consequences.

If he stays, if he doesn't give himself to the system, the cycle will only continue. There is no escape for both of them. One of them has to break free, and it can't be him. He's spent too long in this nightmare.

Jonah takes a step back. The room feels smaller now, suffocating. His throat tightens. This isn't about winning. It's about breaking free. For both of them.

"Elias… this is the only way." His voice is steady, but his insides are shaking.

Elias's eyes flicker with panic, but Jonah doesn't look away. He cannot look away. This is it.

The light flickers around them, the hum of the system's core growing louder. Jonah knows the time is running out. He's already made his peace. He's not the one who can escape.

But Elias can. He will.

---

Elias

The choice… It's unbearable. He wants to scream. He wants to fight. The tears blur his vision as he stares at Jonah—his friend, his enemy, his brother, his fate.

"No." It's all he can say, the word tasting bitter in his mouth. "I won't leave you. You're not—"

But Jonah's voice is sharp, cutting through the agony. "I'm not asking you to leave me. I'm giving you the chance to live. To be free. Don't make the same mistake I did."

Elias shakes his head violently, but inside… inside, something cracks. Something softens. He's known Jonah longer than anyone in this world, maybe anyone in his life. And in this moment—this horrible, devastating moment—he understands.

Jonah can't escape this system. He's too far gone. The loops have twisted him into something else—something the system can't let go of. He'll never break free.

But Elias…

Elias still can.

Jonah closes his eyes. He doesn't hear the system's final warning, doesn't feel the ground tremble as it prepares to reset. The pressure in his chest lightens for a fleeting moment.

This is the end. He has chosen to be erased—to make way for Elias's escape.

And in his final moments, he finds peace.

---

Elias

Elias screams, his body shaking violently as Jonah's form flickers—dissolves—into nothing. A wave of light floods the chamber, and the very fabric of reality distorts around him. Jonah is gone.

The system whirs, its voice empty. "Cycle Reset Complete. Subject 0023A (Elias Ward) – Escape Protocol Successful."

But Elias doesn't hear it. He's already running. Running for his life.

For the first time in his existence, he's free. And yet… he feels the absence. The weight of Jonah's sacrifice presses on his heart.
