Coming back from the evening duty at Zenith Specialist Hospital, one of the best hospitals in Holland, Sonia felt tired and exhausted, determined to eat a bit, go to her room and dive into her bed at once to get a nap after a strenuous, and a long day.
Immediately she got home, she unlocked the house as it seems no one was at home.
Her mum may probably be at work and her sister…. no one would ever know her whereabouts.
Entering the house, she went straight to the kitchen, her favourite place after her peaceful room.
Despite the tiredness, she wouldn't want to play with her tummy.
She opened the kitchen door and it made the usual creaking sound which often irritates her.
She wouldn't wait to save more so as to change the door.
She made her way to the pot, opened it and all she could perceive was a sweet aroma of a well garnished jellof rice with fresh fish.
Her mum would always be the best chef she knows.
Her tummy growled immediately, she smiled as she wouldn't want to wait an extra minute to devour the food immediately.
On a second thought, she decided to go to her room, take a quick shower, then eat and after which she will have the full energy and strength to sleep like a baby.
With the thought still running through her mind, she looked at the pot of food for the last time trying to make up her mind.
Feeling that was the best option, she had to drag herself out of the kitchen, trying to neglect the cries and pleading from her tummy.
"You know I love you and I can't wait to always fill you with every delicacy but let's take a shower first" she said tapping her tummy and laughing at herself.
On getting to her room, her mood changed instantly.
"Not again", she cried out aloud.
Her face darkened with visible wrinkles and dark circles around her eyes at the sight of that.
Her room was scattered and is in a shamble.
She stood at a corner in the room, looking at the entire room.
She exhaled deeply while scratching her hair, trying to calm her nerves down.
The little appetite she had had disappeared already and she would have love to destroy who ever did this to her room.
But who else would have done that if not her younger sister, Becky, and all these mess would be as a result of her search for money to use in buying drugs.
Becky smith is known for her notorious behavior, being addicted to drugs and the family's black sheep, always getting on everyone's nerves.
As she has no job doing or anything giving her money, stealing has also become part of her as she needs to keep her daily routine of getting drugs.
Not knowing what else to do, Sonia moved trying to use her last strength to start tidying up the room, hissing all through, not knowing how best to help this sister of hers as all advices given to her even by their mum had been like water poured on thr rock yielding no good measures.
After arranging the room, and straightening the bed, removing every wrinkles and debris from the bed, Sonia took a deep breath knowing she had done well.
All she needed now was to sleep and recover the lost strength.
Her sister has succeeded in making her lose her appetite. "All thanks to her", she said in a sarcastic manner.
Sonia laid down on the bed immediately, trying to put everything that had happened behind her as it's already a norm and shouldn't bother her much.
As soon as her body touched the bed, she stretched herself, adjusted herself comfortable while lying with her face, she couldn't help but drift into sleep immediately.
Just few hours into the dreamland, Susan Smith, Sonia and Becky's mum entered into Sonia's room in a rush with worry all written over her face.
She tapped Sonia, waking her up from her beautiful sleep.
"We need to talk, Sonia baby", she said instantly.
Stretching herself and gradually opening her eyes, still overwhelmed with tiredness.
"Good evening mum", Sonia said yawning
"Baby, I'm sorry for waking you halfway and I know you must be so tired but there's something I want us to discuss and this is very important ", Sonia's mum said blinking her eyes, trying to know how best to start the conversation.
Sonia sat on the bed supporting her back with a pillow, with her eyes still closed.
"Sonia baby, you know Mrs Stella Stone right, the woman I used to work with "? Sonia's mum asked leaning towards her daughter.
"Yes, what happened"? Sonia asked opening her eyes with a worried face.
"So….. the thing is that she likes you a lot and is amazed by how outstanding you are, how beautiful and intelligent you are, she just like everything about you, from your hair to your toes, in and out". Sonia's mum said giving a break.
"Ahh..okay mum, what else" Sonia said looking at her mum to continue.
"She wants you to marry her son", Sonia's mum finally voiced out almost stuttering, her eyes blinking fast.
"Marry me"? Sonia asked chuckling, rubbing her hands on her eyes, becoming more awake and alert.
Her mum felt pity for her but she had already made up her mind to convince her no matter what because that was the only way out.
"Mum, you must be kidding right"? Sonia asked laughing.
"I'm not kidding baby, I'm damn serious about this", Mrs. Susan responded.
"I know this is a lot but I think it's the right decision you know".
She added cupping her face and staring deep into her.
"Right decision you said" Sonia said scoffing as she adjusted her body very well.
"Hmmm…" Sonia's mum only nodded trying to act neutral.
Sonia looked at her mum's face, trying to read her reaction and mood.
"Infact, who mum, which of her sons"? Sonia asked trying to apprehend what's happening as she looked at her mum straight in the eyes.
