Chapter 5 - First Plunder

"When will the rain stop?"

Leaning against the cart, Sarah muttered to herself as she watched the sky continue to rumble and water that doesn't look in a mood to stop anytime soon.

Cold wind brushed past her fingers as she felt the shivers down her spine.

'I feel strange… I don't know why… but my heart—' Looking at the dark clouds churning ominously, Sarah put her hands on her chest, feeling the stuffiness and palpitations her heart was giving out. 'It feels scary…'

Curling her feet, Sarah looked at the figure of John sitting beside her, humming a tune she had never heard, enjoying the fruits.

Looking at him, an unconscious smile emerged on her face as the worries she had before all vanished.

Yawn

As Sarah was lost in her thoughts, a lazy yawn sounded beside her. Looking back, she noticed the figure of Damon, who was lying back on the wall, now standing on his legs stretching his body as he released his yawn.

"The rain hasn't stopped yet?"

"Nah… it has just gotten worse."

Sarah giggled as she answered Damon, who walked beside her and observed the gloomy weather.

"Fucking rain…"

Damon muttered. 'He clearly isn't a fan of rain,' Sarah thought. 'Well, who even is… everything just gets muddy and wet, water ruins all of the house as Dad tries to…'

Her thoughts wandered as she recalled the past. Her eyes filled with nostalgia as she gazed at the scene.

"…John, wanna come?"

As Sarah was lost in her thoughts, the mention of John brought her back to the present.

"Sure, why not?" John replied, to which Sarah questioned.

"Where are you going?" Her brows furrowed as she asked the boy.

"To relieve myself," John answered casually as he dusted his clothes before joining Damon, who was standing a bit far.

"Don't worry, I would be fine! I have Daniel here with me," John mentioned with a smile as he pointed at Damon, who started walking ahead of him before following Damon with a relaxed attitude.

"Sigh… this kid." Sarah just shook her head as she watched the departing figure of the men. Her voice sounded relaxed, but her heart tightened as the feeling she suppressed returned.

"What's happening with me…" Looking at the laughing John, a strange concern rose in her heart. "Nothing will happen… Daniel is with him."

"She is really a worrywart."

Grinning like a fool, John said out loud as he skipped some steps in order to keep up with Damon's speed of walking.

"So, where are we going?"

Reaching the end of the cavern, standing at the exit, John asked, unsure of where to go.

"Outside, where else? We can't do that in here, can we?"

"Ew, absolutely not."

Damon chuckled as he exited the cave, entering the storm, followed by John, who held both his hands above his head in order to shield himself.

"Is this normal here? The rain? Is it always like this?"

"Nah… sometimes I guess… but it's mostly clear up here."

Damon replied as he led John further and further away from the cave.

"By the way… do you always carry your sword?" Noticing the sword that Damon never left alone even for a single moment since he left, John asked curiously.

"Yes… the world is dangerous…" Gripping his sword tightly, Damon muttered as he brought it to his hand without stopping for even a sec; rather, his pace hastened.

"God knows… what disaster strikes you when… what enemy lurks in the shadow." Damon's tone got heavy as he unsheathed his blade. "A warrior should always be ready."

Damon's grip on his blade tightened as his feet suddenly came to a halt. John's steps also stopped as he felt a strange sense of shift in the atmosphere.

"Uh… dude?" A strange sense of dread began to fill the void of John's heart as he walked closer to Damon, hesitatingly putting his hand on Damon's shoulder. "You alright?"

"Heh." A sneer of contempt emerged on Damon's face as the rain poured down his body. His front, facing the other side, was out of John's sight.

Damon's figure slowly turned, steadily turning around, now standing face to face with that of John. His gaze bored directly into John's eyes. His eyes—that of a predator.

The aura beside Damon changed as a surge of contempt, disgust, and anger rose in John's heart.

'This feeling…' John's eyes widened in realization as he stepped back. Fear… intense, pure fear now clouded John's brain.

"We finally meet… Heir."

John's body trembled in fear and despair as he gulped. Without wasting a second of his time understanding what's happening, John spun around, lifting his feet, ready to run free. But before he could, a large hand firmly grabbed him by his neck, jerking him back, impaling John's body on the ready blade, stabbing the boy with its full might.

John's eyes widened in pain, his breath stagnated as he felt the pain, feeling the sword of Damon deep within his guts. Blood dribbled down John's mouth as his bloodshot eyes looked at Damon with absolute hatred, anger, and disgust.

"I… will kill…"

With the life remaining in his body, that's all John could mutter before he collapsed to the ground as the sword holding his body retracted back.

Eyes filled with anger and grievance looked at Damon as John writhed in pain. The sneer on Damon's face disappeared as he knelt down on one knee beside John's dying body.

Rain fastened its speed as the thunders roared. Damon's hand slithered to John's throat as he looked directly into the dying boy's eyes.

"Next life… I hope you talk less."
