Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Burnt Alive.

N.B: Please cheer me up, this is my first book😁

The fire smelled like betrayal.

Lin Yue's lung clawed for hair and smoke curled in her throat. The door was locked and the handle seared her skin. Through the glass, she saw them. Her fiance and her sister, standing side by side, watching her die.

Zhou ming looked almost bored. Xu Fei clutched his arm like a prize.

"Why?" Yue gasped, pounding the glass. Her voice cracked. "I gave you everything'

Xu Fei tilted her head. "Exactly and now you have nothing left".

The flames are through the floorboards. Lin Yue fell to her knees, the heat blistering her skin, her chest caving due to betrayal. She thought of her mother - already dead, her father - poisoned slowly by lies. Her entire life used as a stepping stone.

The last thing she heard was Xu Fei's voice:

"Goodbye big sister".

Everything went black.

She woke up choking.

But not on smoke.

On perfume.

Lilac. Her old favorite.

Lin Yue bolted upright, her heart thudding. She was in bed - her bed. The cream-colored headboard, the jade bracelet on the nightstand, the ugly floral curtains her stepmother forced on her three years ago.

No.

Not three years ago.

Now.

She lunged for her phone. The screen blinked to life.

April 5th

Three years ago.

The day she got engaged to Zhou Ming.

The day her life began to unravel.

Her breath came in sharp gaps. She stumbled to the mirror . Her face - unburned. Her skin - whole. Her eyes wide and terrified.

"I'm alive", she whispered.

Then, louder:" I'm back"

She didn't scream. Didn't cry.

She smiled.

Cold. Controlled. Terrifyingly calm.

This time, she wouldn't play the victim. This time, she wouldn't beg for love. Her heart had already burned once, there was nothing to destroy.
