"Before my turn ends, I activate this card—Continuous Spell: Curtain of Concealment!"
A green-background Spell Card materialized on the vampire heiress's field. The artwork: her mid-yawn, drawing silky curtains shut while nestled among a flurry of bats, shielding herself from moonlight's touch.
Elegant yet impish—that was the vampire heiress.
"End of turn."
"So? You get it now, don't you? You're just not on the same level as the Lady! She's from the Vampire Dimension—"
"Camula," the heiress called softly.
"…R-Right, I get it." Camula bit her tongue and shut her mouth.
Not that it mattered. The smarter duelists among the spectators were already piecing it together.
A Duel Spirit playing her own cards—ninety-nine percent chance she's a monster spirit from another dimension.
"My turn—draw."
Hikaru Amagi drew, eyes scanning his hand, brow furrowing with quiet deliberation.
"Damn!" shouted Bastion Misawa from the stands. Until now, he'd been too focused on the duel to care about the vampire's looks.
"Huh? What's wrong, Bastion?" Jaden and Chad turned to him.
"Everyone knows Hikaru's deck is Fusion-heavy—relying on spells and traps rather than swarming materials. It's all about spell-based Fusion with minimal monsters."
Heads nodded.
"And to maximize those few materials, Hikaru's go-to Continuous Spells are Blazing Sword Domain and Future Fusion. Let's skip Blazing Sword for now—Future Fusion requires sending Fusion Materials from the deck to the GY. Same with Fusion Dispersal, which Alexis mentioned seeing earlier."
"So what?" Jaden blinked.
"Ah!" Chad clutched his head. "Vampire Kingdom!"
"Exactly! Because of Vampire Kingdom's effect, Hikaru's Fusions get massively restricted!"
"Then what now? Can Hikaru even win against both of them?!"
"Don't panic, Syrius—Hikaru will find a way."
Staring at his hand, Hikaru's eyes sharpened. A plan took form in his mind.
"I activate the Continuous Spell—Future Fusion!"
"Agh—didn't I just say not to use Future Fusion?!" Syrius screamed from the stands.
"Hm?" Zane Truesdale—raised an eyebrow at Hikaru's choice.
"I activate Future Fusion's effect. I reveal Ancient Gear Ultimate Golem from the Extra Deck, and send Ancient Gear Golem from the Deck to the GY."
!!
Zane's pupils constricted.
Ancient Gear Golem…?
"Your friends are warning you, you know?" The heiress tilted her head, flipping through her deck. "I activate Vampire Kingdom's effect. I send Vampire Dragon from my Deck to the GY—to destroy your Future Fusion."
"Ha! That means that stupid Ultimate Golem's not coming out either!" Camula cackled. She still hadn't forgotten getting punched in the face by that monster earlier. Seeing it scrapped—and Future Fusion too—made her giddy.
"Hmph... Then I activate the Continuous Spell—Brilliant Fusion!"
"When this card activates, I send Fusion Materials listed on a 'Gem-Knight' Fusion Monster from my Deck to the GY. That Fusion Monster's ATK/DEF becomes 0. When Brilliant Fusion leaves the field, that monster is destroyed."
"I send Gem-Knight Crystal and Thunder Dragon from the Deck to the GY to Fusion Summon—Gem-Knight Prism Aura!"
Gem-Knight Prism AuraLevel 7 / EARTH / Thunder-Type / DEF: 0
"Eh??" Syrius pointed speechlessly at the field.
"Wait a sec…" Chad frowned. "Something's not adding up."
"Vampire Kingdom's effect only triggers once per turn," Hikaru explained, stroking his chin. "And it's mandatory. Meaning, if I send something from my deck to the GY, it must trigger—forcing it to destroy one of my cards."
"So I let it destroy Future Fusion first."
The vampire heiress's red eyes glimmered. She tilted her head, examining Hikaru like he was a strange new animal.
"Ahhh—I see now!" Bastion pumped a fist. "Prism Aura can discard a Gem-Knight card to destroy one face-up card on the field! Whether it's Vampire Kingdom, Vampire's Domain, or even that terrifying vampire heiress herself—he can blow it up!"
If only it were that easy.
Hikaru's lips pressed tight.
"I activate Gem-Knight Prism Aura's effect! I discard Gem-Knight Fusion from my hand—to destroy Vampire Kingdom!"
Captain Crystal raised her spear, charging it with bright energy until it fired like a white-hot laser.
"Not happening!" The heiress thrust out her hand—bats whirled into a wall, forming a great black curtain. "Curtain of Concealment's effect! I send it to the GY to prevent the destruction of one of my cards."
The beam smashed into the curtain, scattering shockwaves—but never pierced it.
"N-No way…" Syrius's brief flicker of hope died in an instant.
"Dammit… Even Hikaru didn't recognize that card," Bastion groaned. "If he'd destroyed Kingdom first, then summoned Prism Aura, and then used its effect, they'd have stood a better chance."
Hikaru set two cards facedown. His eyes met Zane's for a moment—silent.
Zane blinked. Something about that look…
"End of turn."
Zane suddenly realized—Hikaru was telling him something.
If Vampire Kingdom had to trigger when a card's sent from deck to GY—then why waste Ancient Gear Golem? Why not use Ancient Gear Cannon, or something disposable? Wasting a Fusion material for Ultimate Golem made no sense…
Unless—
Unless that wasn't the real play.
Of course—Hikaru was the top rep of the Fusion Department.
Zane's mouth curled into a grin.
"You're smiling in this situation?" The vampire girl tilted her head, giggling. "My turn! I Normal Summon Skull Servant!"
The monster Vampire Dragon had searched for last turn—slammed straight onto the field.
"Then I activate Skull Servant's effect—sending myself to the GY. Next, Monster Reborn—to bring myself right back!"
Vampire EnchantressLevel 7 / DARK / Zombie / ATK: 2000
She flapped her wings, preparing to float onto the battlefield like the heiress before her. But just then—Hikaru flipped a card.
"I activate the trap Flame Sword Dance! When a monster is Special Summoned, I can Special Summon a Level 7 or lower Fusion Monster with 'Flame Swordsman' in its name from the Extra Deck in Defense Position!
I Special Summon Dark-Flame Knight, in Defense Position! Then, Sword Dance flips Vampire Enchantress face-down!"
The enchantress jolted in midair, flailing awkwardly as she was flipped and planted face-down like a punished schoolkid.
She made no further attempt to take flight.
"Tch. Pathetic squirming."
"Skull Servant attacks Dark-Flame Knight! Vampire Enchantress attacks Prism Aura!"
She didn't switch the heiress to Attack Position. Hell, she didn't dare.
With only 600 ATK, and considering who she was, Camula didn't have the guts to give that command.
"I Set a card. End turn.
Your move—stop wasting time. It's almost the Lady's nap hour."
"Damn… We survived another turn, but there's more and more Zombies piling up… and with the vampire heiress there, every one of them is basically unbeatable head-on…" Bastion clenched his jaw.
"Ughhhh, broooother—!" Syrius yanked at his hair.
"Come on! Kaiser! Hikaru!!"
"Hmph. Naive. Laughable." But on the stage, Zane was smiling. "Hikaru… thanks for protecting my Cyber Dragon Vier.
I get it now.
Now I'll use the card you left me."
"My turn—draw!"
"At this moment, I activate the Trap Card—Cyber Revolution!"
"Cyber Revolution!?"
"What the heck is that?!"
"I think Hikaru left it behind!"
"Tribute one Cyber Dragon on your field to activate this card. From your Extra Deck—Special Summon one Fusion Monster that lists Cyber Dragon as a material!"
"Yosh!" He flashed a wide, clean smile.
"My friend! Cyber End Dragon!"
