Chapter 16 - Chapter 16

At the judge's signal, Lu Mingjun walked into another room and called Ji Xinyu, the director of the legal department at Jiangfa Bank.

The call was quickly answered. Lu Mingjun verbally reported the details of the mediation to Ji Xinyu and then said,

"Minister Ji, this is the current situation. The judge would like to know whether our bank is willing to provide some relief funds to the eleven plaintiffs from a moral standpoint."

As expected, Ji Xinyu said that he needed to report the matter to his superiors before making a decision.

He also voiced some concern.

"Lawyer Lu, do you think the judge's attitude implies that our bank must provide some assistance to those people?"

Hearing this, Lu Mingjun was briefly stunned before replying with a smile,

"I remember we already discussed this issue when I reported to you a few days ago."

At that point, Lu Mingjun found a chair and sat down before continuing,

"This case is very special. The eleven plaintiffs are all retired elderly people, and very little money has been recovered from Jiang Ze's case. The court may consider factors such as social stability and request that our bank offer a certain amount of assistance."

As soon as she finished speaking, she heard a faint sigh from the other end of the phone. She shook her head and added,

"Of course, this isn't fair to the industry. But law and morality are sometimes inseparable. From another perspective, we can even turn this misfortune into a positive outcome."

In her previous life, Lu Mingjun had been exposed to certain audio and video platforms and had gained considerable experience in public relations.

So before Ji Xinyu could respond, she gave a brief explanation about topics like how listed companies show social responsibility—earning Ji Xinyu's high praise. He said he would report to leadership immediately and expressed interest in hiring their firm as the bank's legal advisor.

Lu Mingjun thanked him with a smile, already planning to strike while the iron was hot and send over the consulting contract shortly.

She returned to the mediation room and softly explained to the judge,

"Judge Wang, Jiangfa Bank's internal process requires us to report to the president for a decision. We may not receive a reply today."

The judge nodded in understanding. The decision-making process in large financial institutions like Jiangfa Bank is typically complex and time-consuming.

He glanced at the case file and said,

"Please follow up on this matter promptly, Lawyer Lu, and try to provide us with a response before this Friday."

Lu Mingjun nodded.

"I'll continue to follow up and report any updates to you in time."

"In that case, let's wait for Jiangfa Bank's reply," Judge Wang concluded.

"Both parties, please stay and sign the mediation record before leaving."

Lu Mingjun signed the transcript, exchanged farewells with Zhang Hua, and left.

There was no real winner or loser in this case. As Jiang Xinxin had advised, the best result would be a win-win.

Back at the law firm, Lu Mingjun immediately reported the latest developments to Jiang Xinxin. After listening carefully, Jiang Xinxin smiled and said,

"I actually received a call before you returned."

Then she stood up, walked around her desk, and came to Lu Mingjun's side.

"Mingjun, you gave me a big surprise! I knew you were cautious, but I didn't expect you to handle the case this well."

Thinking of the calls she had just received from the bank and the court, Jiang Xinxin couldn't stop smiling.

Jiangfa Bank would pay some compensation and gain an opportunity to boost its corporate image;

The eleven plaintiffs would receive some financial relief and avoid too much hardship;

The lawyers on both sides had fought for their clients' rights;

And the court had successfully resolved a collective conflict.

Lu Mingjun immediately responded,

"Director Jiang, this solution was largely thanks to your ideas. I wouldn't dare take the credit."

Jiang Xinxin waved her hand and smiled.

"Don't be so modest, Mingjun. I've shared this concept with many lawyers in the firm."

She led Lu Mingjun to sit on the sofa by the window and said, a little regretfully,

"Others may have heard the words, but you're the only one who truly took them to heart. Mingjun, you make me feel that Xinxing Law Firm has a future!"

Hearing this, Lu Mingjun replied sincerely,

"I'm honored to be the one you call your successor. That means I must work even harder to live up to your expectations!"

Jiang Xinxin was even more pleased with Lu Mingjun's lightheartedness.

"Hahaha, it's rare to hear you joke like that! That's right, little girl—don't always act so serious. It's not cute!"

"Oh, by the way, today's the 10th—it's payday! Let's get off work early today. Go home, cook something delicious, and treat yourself!"

Lu Mingjun felt a wave of warmth in her heart.

"Okay! Thank you, Director Jiang!"

"Alright, enough chit-chat," Jiang Xinxin said, patting her shoulder.

"Jiangfa Bank called and said they're interested in hiring our firm as their legal advisor. They also want you to provide regular services."

"Go find Xiaolu and get a copy of our legal service contract. Revise it and send it to Minister Ji. The annual consulting fee is 200,000, and the case fee is half that."

"Got it," Lu Mingjun replied. "I'll sort it out right away, have you review it, and then send it over."

"No need. I trust you to handle it." Jiang Xinxin smiled and shook her head.

"Oh, and one more thing—"

She took out her phone and sent a photo to Lu Mingjun.

"I just received an invitation from the Federation of Industry and Commerce. They're inviting our firm to a seminar on mediating equity disputes for listed companies."

"The tax bureau will send a representative too. Go see if it can help with the Changhong Group case!"

Lu Mingjun nodded. Seeing that there was nothing else, she walked out.

Wang Lulu had been waiting outside the office. When she saw Lu Mingjun, she quickly sent her the consulting contract template and reminded her to finish and send it as soon as possible.

Lu Mingjun nodded. As soon as she returned to her desk, she heard the system's voice:

"Ding! The system has detected that the host has worked hard for a full month and earned recognition from superiors. The host is rewarded with ten times the salary!"

"The reward has been transferred to the host's salary card. All sources are legal—please feel free to use it!"
