(Serian POV)
---
Trumpets rang. Flowers rained from the balconies. The sun crowned the marble city of Velcoris as its people celebrated the chosen one.
> "The Hero of Light! Our savior!"
Serian stood on the royal platform, his face calm. To others, he looked noble, proud. But behind his eyes, shadows stirred.
The rumors of the Demon Lord lingered—stories of fire and mercy, of slaves freed and nobles burning. He couldn't forget the boy's question:
> "But… is saving bad?"
---
In the throne room, King Alderan raised a jeweled goblet.
> "Let it be known that Serian, our Hero, shall now gather his chosen warriors—his Party of Light—to purge the darkness that rises again!"
Cheers erupted.
But Serian's stomach twisted.

Later – The Selection
Knights, mages, and adventurers stood in a golden hall, each hoping to be chosen. Not for honor—but for power, fame, and royal favor.
Kaien leaned in beside Serian.
> "Pick wisely. You'll need more than light to face what's coming."
Serian nodded.
---
1. ELYN VARIS –
A sharp-tongued S-Class ice mage. Beautiful. Arrogant.
She eyed Serian like a challenge.
> "If I follow you, Hero, don't slow me down."
2. KAEDEN –
A rising knight known for his monstrous strength—and dangerous temper.
He stared daggers at Serian, especially when Eliane passed by.
> "We'll see if you're a real hero or just a symbol."
3. MARIELLE –
A silent healer, shy and strange. Her eyes lingered too long on Kaien.
No one knew where she came from.
4. GAREN –
A holy cleric sent by the church. Loyal to a fault.
Too loyal.
---
Serian chose them not for balance—but for instinct.
> "These five will walk beside me," he said. "To face whatever darkness rises."
---
That Night
Alone in his chamber, Serian looked out over Velcoris. Beneath the moon, the city looked peaceful. But beyond the walls…
A fire burned. Somewhere, far away, people whispered a new name.
> "The Demon Lord saves."
The door opened. Kaien entered with a scroll sealed in blood-red wax.
> "It's time," he said softly. "You're being assigned to investigate the Demon Lord."
Serian didn't react—he had expected it.
> "And if I find her?" he asked.
Kaien smiled.
> "You kill her, of course."
Serian nodded.
But deep in his chest… something twisted.
